Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg

We chose Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg because of the location, meal plan flexibility and outdoor space. I would definitely recommend this facility to those looking for retirement living!

After 21/2 months, my opinion of Brookdale Chambrel has not changed. It is a place that I value for my brother primarily because of the people I have interacted with. I trust their expertise and input when it comes to the safety of my brother. Everyone is very helpful and shows a caring and understanding attitude when dealing with either me or my brother.

Overall experience with Brookdale as a five, but with a caveat that it is so beyond expensive, and I do feel the cost are excessive, even with the excellent care my husband has received and continues to receive from the wonderful staff as they have become our second family. I cannot comment on the activities because he has Parkinson's and does not participate, but it does appear to me that if you are able to join in so to speak that they have done an excellent job providing activities for those residents able to participate. Quality of care is excellent and I truly believe the staff love my husband. He is a kind and gentle man. They do a lot of extremely hard work for what I consider an insufficient pay. The cleanliness of Brookdale has never been an issue. They do an excellent job of that. An item not addressed in your list is the availability of management and I have found Brookdale to have been incredibly good about that as I have dealt a lot with the management staff and they are excellent always available and always willing to work with you to solve any problems that come up realizing that this type of a facility or this industry just has a set of problems that unfortunately probably can never be fixed. I visited a number of facilities. Brookdale was the only one where I was always comfortable. The programs and services they offer met my needs. As a long time walker and a dog owner, the property here offers a number of options. I made the right choice for me when I moved here.

My family likes knowing me and my husband are in a safe environment that has a sense of a community. Based on the experience we have had so far, I would recommend this community to other families who may need a place for their loved ones.

Prices are a bit excessive. And seems as if it is almost al-a-carte for some of the services. Even if they are not needed. But I still like the facility overall vs. the other facilities to choose from. The intake representative/manager [name removed] was the deciding choice for staying at Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg.

Friendliness is wonderful but it is a little difficult for us as my husband is deaf, has dementia and is under Hospice due to cancer, but the care and concern is so appreciated. My son picked this place over all the other ones he looked at. We were in Florida but he was impressed with every thing he saw and decided this was where we should be. Plus it was near him and my granddaughter and her family. He made a very good choice.

I recommend Brookdale in Williamsburg because the staff is very friendly and helpful to me (family) and to my father. Even when they were short staffed, as was EVERYWHERE, they made sure communication was clear and things happened that needed to. Staff smiles! They have so many varied activities every day for people with all interests and independence levels. They have terrific in house care when care or support is needed "at home" to maintain your independent living level. Food is yummy and so many fresh healthy options daily. Brookdale staff have helpful information and recommendations for moving in companies that know the place so well, you can sit back and it's done. There is a heated outdoor pool , and lots of outdoor space. Parking for visitors is better than many places I've seen. I am not familiar with their memory care or assisted living sections, but it is nice to know the options are there if needed. Brookdale is clean, they put in the extra touches so things always look nice. The administration is kind, so people feel good. And my father or I can always reach someone with any questions. They know the residents, they know their mission!

All the staff are very friendly. The food is excellent. Having said that, I have to add that we have had an issue with the stove blocking one of only 2 drawers in the kitchen which has yet to be resolved. AND the rent went up [removed]. I'm not sure this is affordable for us with that size of an increase.

Very good experience so far. My mother in law does wish that they provided Gluten Free Breads for breakfast and other meals. Maintenance has been quick to complete any requests/work orders...housekeeping is lovely. I would absolutely recommend them to others, The move has been a true blessing to my in laws.

The staff members that work at Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg community are absolutely amazing. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to others and already have!

It felt more like a resort than a place for seniors. The socialization opportunities were very apparent. The beautiful grounds and swimming pool also add a lot!!

My husband and I are really enjoying living here at Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg. What we really like the most about the community is how the food is prepared, it is prepared by a certified chef. Also the grounds that surround the community are very lovely.

We have only been here for 2 -1/2 months and we are still finding our way, however what we really like about the Brookdale Chambrel community is that any questions and concerns we have had, have been answered and taken care of immediately with a smile. We haven't come upon an area that could be improved on. It really is a lovely place to live.

The person in charge of the memory care unit told the family that we couldn't keep our PCP and I knew this wasn't true. The staff didn't like the fact that the doctor was running tests on our loved one due to the doctor not changing medications, like the staff wanted. The staff kept a piece of medical equipment to assist my loved one all the time, and the piece of medical equipment wasn't supposed to be used for more than 4 hours at a time. After a fall, the community sent my loved one to the hospital, and they contacted the family. After this incident the community told us that our loved one was going to have to have a personal caregiver to watch them. If this were to happen it would have increased the price substantially each month. The ER doctor got on a conference call with other doctors and all the doctors stated that the incidents didn't have anything to do with the medications my loved one was on. I ended up moving my loved one out of the community to try to assist my loved one further and provide the necessary care. I'm sorry I took my loved one to Brookdale.

My parents hate the food and their specials are rarely available, the food is also served cold. We gave the value for cost 3 stars based purely on the food. They do have nice activities going on for the residents, our loved ones just do not partake in them. We would recommend Brookdale Chambrel to other families based on our experience, it is a lovely place - just not the food.

I would recommend it

We chose Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg mainly because they were accommodating and the locaiton worked well for family. They are not proactive with communication on the care. I would tell others that you do have to stay on top of them and pry to get that information out of them, they do not just provide it. There have been a couple price increases and changes in what we have to provide since moving in. The staff really are great, we just have had a few issues. Overall I would recommend them to others with caution
