The Blake at Kingsport

The staff is very helpful and friendly. They are very good about communicating with the family about your loved one, and you can call and ask about them any time. The move-in process is smooth, but be ready to produce documents like Medicaid info, living will, driver's license, etc. The meals are very good. I would highly recommend The Blake at Kingsport to others.

When it comes to the meals and dining, this area needs lots of work. There needs to be healthier, fresh food...more vegetables and fruits. And better quality meats. The activities has recently dramatically improved with the hiring of a really good activities director. Previously, there were limited activities for the residents. Overall, we are happy with The Courtyards but there's room for improvement.

It's a very nice place for someone with dementia, which my aunt had. My uncle died within a week of arriving there and my aunt fell about 2 months later and fractured her hip, so she left there and passed away in a rehab facility post surgery. I really appreciated A Place for Mom's help in finding a place.

Independent Living

For many seniors, the financial burden of home ownership might deter them from living an independent lifestyle. Independent Living Communities provide a good solution to this situation. Daily needs such as housekeeping and the scheduling of social activities are taken care of, allowing seniors more opportunities to live life as they wish. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to live among peers, surrounded by others of similar age groups and interests. Typically comprised of a private living area and a full kitchen, these communities offer homes with many of the amenities of apartment life but without the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and more time can be spent with them with the basic maintenance of daily tasks out of the way. While policies vary between communities, a number of residences allow pets as well. Nursing and health care services may always be arranged for with private care providers if desired. There are an assortment of costs and benefits to balance while selecting an independent living community. It is important to figure out if these services are included in your care plan: wellness program, meals, internet access, initial assessment fee, move-in fee, Waiting list deposit, parking, and transportation. The benefits associated with independent living include security guards, concierge services, healthcare center, community activities, private rental hall, game/TV room, golf course, and laundry service.
