It's roomy, many areas where residents can spend individual time or visit with other residents without being alone in their rooms all the time. Quality of food is very good. I think it is very homey.

For my loved one's long term policy, they need a form filled out and sent in at the end of the month and the invoice hasn't been done properly several times. I also didn't receive a statement for September from Brookdale before payment was withdrawn from her checking account. Hopefully these issues improve. I get tired of having to make phone calls to SHIP and Brookdale.

Shamokin, Pennsylvania

Independent Living

An Independent Living Community permits residents the choice to continue to live their active lives while assuring their fundamental needs have been fulfilled. Occupants may use their free time as they wish while their food is prepared by a professionall chef, housekeeping and laundry duties are taken care of by staff, and social activities are organized and scheduled. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy an opportunity to live among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and interests. Typically comprised of a private living area and a full kitchen, these communities offer homes with many of the amenities of apartment life but with none of the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and there will be more time to spend with them with the basic maintenance of daily tasks out of the way. While policies vary between communities, a number of residences allow cats and dogs as well. Nursing and health care services may always be arranged for with independent care providers as desired. There are a variety of benefits and costs to keep in mind when deciding on an independent living community. It is important to determine if these services are covered in the plan: move-in fee, laundry, meals, initial assessment fee, housekeeping, private phone, cable TV, and field trips. The amenities associated with independent living include community activities, fitness center & swimming pool, restaurant-style dining hall, golf course, concierge services, beauty salon & barber shop, transportation, and game/TV room.
