This was based on the outside of my apartment . I lived at Woodlands the last time for one year. The entire half off of my front screen was hanging almost to the ground. This was in an apartment facing the lake on the street you drove in on. I asked to have it fixed and was told that would happen when it came up on their schedule. It never happened. Overall the staff was always friendly. I can only speak for Independent Living. There was virtually no care. I had a few friends on staff who would drop by if I hadn't been seen for a week or more. My family would never have considered eating in the dining room. I cooked most of my meals and would only go down when there something I knew would be alright. I will say the soup was generally always good. To be honest the activities seemed to appeal to a lot of people. If they had art projects I would go but I don't enjoy games, I paid my total bill so it was not a concern to my family. Woodlands, as far as I know was the cheapest place available. It would not be what I would have chosen if I could have afforded more.... Read more

Great staff, nice people and atmosphere. A little dated but have nursing staff on site. All on one floor, residents we saw seemed to look out for one another. Definitely a community feel to it. Not a lot of extra space for activities, no real memory care to speak of which mom will need.

I had a good tour at this community. It was on time and I got a knowledgeable person to tour with. I thought it looked run down and the carpets were very old. It also was a large community and I thought it would be difficult to navigate through.

The staff is great. Mom has not got engaged in the activities yet, but I know that they have a good variety. The staff is very attentive to the residents. This has just been a wonderful experience for us so far. The food is perfect and we love the restaurant.

It is going terrible with the rides I was promised when choosing the community. They told me they can take me to the grocery store and to doctor appointments but the bus has been available for one week since I have been here. Every resident is upset here and they are always fixing the bus, it is old with mechanical issues. The driver is nice guy. The meals, the cleanliness, the activities, and the staff are all fine. I just expect transportation because it is included with what I pay.

Response from Woodlands Village
December 30, 2016Hello, I'd first like to thank you so much for reaching out and sharing this concern with us, and giving us a chance to work together on this issue while we secured a back-up bus (now back in service!). I'd also like to let you know we are so, so sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you, as well as our other residents. While we were able to utilize a sedan to accommodate doctor's appointments, we understand the inconvenience not having the community bus at the ready may have posed to you and our other residents, and for that we would like to sincerely apologize. If you have additional feedback to share, I'd like to encourage you to reach out to our Resident Relations department by phone at [removed], or email at [removed]. Again, we are so, so sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, but appreciate your bringing this to our attention and giving us the chance to make it right. Thank you so much!
Not the right place for us.

Woodlands Village is a nice place, overall. It's a very social feeling community, and the people all seem very friendly! The place is very clean and well kept. Really the only issue is that the air-conditioning/heating system could use some work, it doesn't always do the job.

My mother is doing great here at this community. So far everything is going well. It is a nice and clean community, they do a good job with the cleanliness. They have a very nice staff here, they have been helpful and attentive. They do offer activities for the residents. The meals are okay. They do serve well balanced meals. I know she is safe and in good hand here. They are providing her with great care. This is a community I would recommend.

We visited Woodland Villages last weekend, but unfortunately midway through our tour were turned away due to their opinion that mom is “not a good fit”. Wow, was that a shocker and needless to say, further depressing for mom. She was actually enjoying the experience socializing with other seniors that approached her to welcome her and chat; however, when the dining room service personnel began to clear the tables making a very load and uncomfortable clatter with the dishes, mom complained. They recognized her concern with eye contact, but came closer and continued. She then complained louder as it was indeed an uncomfortable situation that we could not remove ourselves from very quickly being that she relies on a walker. Furthermore, the Administration did not have the professionalism to address me and my mother directly, but instead spoke to my husband as we were in the restroom preparing for the tour. How very unprofessional of Jill, Tom and Bill in treating a Senior and their Family who are in the early stages of researching the appropriate facility to provide daily living care! As a result, mom’s further depressed with her inability to care for herself and feeling most disappointed with the possibility that there may be a community out there that genuinely cares. Fortunately, we know better and I understand that some senior communities are employed by more competent administration than others. Even though Woodland Village offered a nice floor plan with screened porch, our search continues.

Response from Woodlands Village
February 11, 2016Hi, I'm Katie, I work at Holiday Retirement Home Office. First, let me sincerely apologize for the negative experience that you and your mother had at Woodlands Village. Reading through your story, I agreed that I would never want my own mother treated that way, so I most definitely sympathize with your concerns. I've passed your review, verbatim, to our Resident Relations and Risk Management departments so they can open up a formal investigation. Please know that you're welcome to call them as well at [removed] if you have anything else to add. My sincere apologies once more, Katie
The apartments are pretty small, but nice. The staff seems friendly and caring for the most part. It has always been clean when we visit. Other than a few issues with communication, things have gone well so far.

I have to say that Jill was the most helpful customer service rep that I have ever seen. She went above and beyond to help my mother get settled at Woodlands. I am 1200 miles away and could not have arranged it all without her help. The staff have been most helpful in discussing my mother's needs and getting her comfortable. My mother says that the food is excellent and that is very important as she is not a very good eater. She loves the social activities and may even continue her stay after she has recovered from her fall. May God bless all the wonderful folks that work at Woodlands. You are great!

As long as I stay on top of things, they go well. The food is good, she will never starve here. They have scheduled activities Mon-Fri. The staff is pretty friendly, they all know who I am. They were pretty competitive in price to the other places that I looked at, but I liked how close this was to me.

They've done a great job so far at Woodlands Village! I don't get the chance to visit often, as I live out of state, but everything I have heard from my parents is positive! The staff are friendly, and very helpful. My parents really seem to love it here!

We came to Woodlands Village during a very difficult time, and they really took good care of us here. The staff were attentive and caring and did a great job taking care of our loved one. My Mom is still here, and she seems to be doing very well! She is happy, healthy, and making friends. They are definitely worth a look, if you're looking for senior care in the area!

The Woodland Villages was so easy to work with in finding a comfortable, safe place for my father-in-law. He had visions of a "nursing home" but once he walked in and saw how friendly everyone was and the size of his apartment he was convinced and made up his mind almost immediately that he was ready to move in. Everyone there has made the transition so easy for him and the family. They are all very thoughtful and genuinely care about his care and comfort. I feel that it was the right time and the right place for him and we are so glad that A Place for Mom (Dad too) helped us find Woodland Villages.

Generally speaking everything is going well. They keep things relatively clean. The staff is generally pretty friendly, but with forty or so employees, some are friendlier than others. It appears that the residents enjoy the activities, but I don't participate much. Sometimes they don't have enough staff to respond quickly, it depends on the staffing on any given day. During the first month I really wanted to go down to the corner and get a burger, but the food is about average, and it seems to be getting better as time goes by. They will bring your food to you if you needed. There is room for improvement in everything, one or two things that could be improved. I am pretty with it for my age, and there are somethings I don't need assistance with, and they will do certain things for you whether you need it or not, like administering medications. With the amount of people here that need help, they keep the doors to the apartments are unlocked, and any of the staff can walk in at any time, whether you are prepared. It would be nice if some of these things were determined on an individual basis, instead of just being the way it's done. I don't know how it is in the independent living, I am on the assisted side.

A Place for Mom has scored Woodlands Village 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
