Definitely would recommend. We picked this community because it was close to her friends and church mainly.

I ended up having to move my cousin out of the Whitley because he didn't get the type of care he needed at the time. Unfortunate he ended up passing away back in April. It was a very nice place when it was called Bright Oaks. But it kind of went down in activities and care with the new owners of the Whitley took over. But then again, my cousin got older and needed more care. One of the breaking points was he got ill one morning and they sent him by ambulance to the ER and they never contacted me. He called me from the ER and asked where I was and that he was already there for two hours. Still through out the day no one contacted me. Their staffing really went down and no communication. They got rid of the nighttime nurse and one night he went looking for one just to get a Tylenol and no one could give him one. I will not recommended them. I don't know if they have changed anything since then to make it better. I know they let go a lot of employees there that really did care about the residents.
The nice amenities have stood out to me. Communication from the nursing coordinator could be improved.

Our family had an in person tour with Bright Oaks of Aurora, and even though it was not the place for our loved one we thought the experience and the community was great.
I toured Bright Oaks of Aurora and it was a beautiful facility! My actual tour was great. The informational one-on-one meeting with the staff was comprehensive and I did not feel rushed. The staff follow up after my tour was great also. They offered creative opportunities for us to join their in house events to get first hand experiences. The facility was clean and well maintained.

May 26, 2023Thank you so much for your kind words. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us!
Facility looks great. Clean. Spacious. But - no transportation! Lack of accountability! Not running smoothly yet. High staff turnover - not enough staff.

We are thankful for the Bright Oaks Community. We have made many friends, in the staff and the administration. Although we have had a few challenging issues-we continue to work together all in the interest of my dad.

The food is okay. They offer three meals per day. Wish they had more activities, to go out more. My loved one chose this place, and it's close to my residence. Overall, my loved one feels very comfortable, and likes the facility. It's the newest, and cleanest community that I have seen.

My loved one started out at Bright Oaks with respite care and has now become a permanent resident. And she's doing really well there. We've been very pleased with her ability to adjust, which has a lot to do with the staff, who are very friendly. They've made her feel very welcome and are very caring. They do a great job with cleanliness. They're doing really well with her care and physical therapy. They offer a lot of activities. She's not quite as happy with the food, but I think that's just because it's not what she's used to eating. Like every place, it's expensive, but I feel like we got a good deal. We were able to get a discount for signing a 1-year contract, which has been a huge benefit. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better experience.

We had a great first impression with Bright Oaks, the director [name removed] is always very responsive and readily available. When our loved one moved in we got to know some of the nurses fairly quickly and all have been great. [name removed] is the activities coordinator is she is amazing. She is always sending us videos and pictures of our loved one doing different things. It has been wonderful to see her participating in different things with new friends, she is thriving and really enjoying herself. They have different board games, bowling, word activities and holiday themed parties. They got to participate in margarita day with non alcoholic drinks, but she was able to help make all the drinks. Bright Oaks gives us that peace of mind that we made the right choice. It is a very warm and welcoming community

Typical of most facilities, there was a high turnover in staff and there were several times when there was a shortage of staff. The care that my loved one received was varied, depending on the available personnel --some were there just for the paycheck and some were there because they genuinely cared for the residents. My family member was fortunate in that there were several who took very good care of him. When his needs increased they discharged him. My biggest complaint now is that according to our contract, my family member is due a refund and after a year we have not received it yet. Except for about 2, calls are not returned. When there is a response, it was that either they're looking into it or its someone else's responsibility.

I've been repressed in visiting my wife of 62 years since mid-March 2020 primarily due to restrictions imposed by COVID-19. For over a year and a half before the onset of COVID-19, I visited my bride for about two hours daily during meals in the Memory Care dining room. During Saturday dinners we SKYPED our son in Japan. During these daily visits I had the opportunity to observe the staff in the performance of their duties. Without exception, all were caring, most compassionate and professional in all respects. At no time did I observe a staff member exhibit frustration annoyance.. The meals, many of which I too partook were balanced in verity, quality and quantity. Considering the circumstances, for my taste, they were oftentimes somewhat bland. The staff responsible for varying activities were exceptionally dedicated individuals. They arranged for frequent outside 'professional' entertainers; piano players, singers, visiting pet sessions, skits, et al. They also provided daily in house activities; bingo, sing-a-longs, projects, games and field trips. I believe the overall staff turnover rate is above the norm. However, there is a dedicated CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) staff core that have been with Bright Oaks since day one. Bright Oaks should consider employing an OMBUDSMAN to periodically communicate the status of the residents to their loved ones, especially during this COVID-19 Pandemic. Currently, from my personal experience, I am only contacted when there is a need for my loved one. Occasionally, on my request, I do receive an E-mail photo of my wife, but not always. Would I recommend another to entrust their loved one into the care of Bright Oaks of Aurora. Absolutely, without reservation. They administer GREAT care, but not PERFECT

They are a very caring staff. The value is good. My dad was very well taken care of, especially after the new director took over. They have made a lot of improvements. The nursing staff is top-notch. My dad was in memory care. I always felt like they kept a good eye on my dad. They helped me with the hospice process. He was so loved there. I am an only child, A Place for Mom, really helped me with the whole process.

The nurses at Bright Oaks seem to really care about the residents. Half of the CNA staff seem to really like their job and the others are just there. The location was a good fit for my family. Bright Oaks had availability when we needed it. Food seems okay, I have only tried the food once and it was good.

The community, the grounds, and the staff seemed excellent. We just got the impression, from the tour and the time spent talking with employees, that they might be slightly understaffed.

When I first started looking at communities, I called A Place for Mom and [Removed] has been wonderful in assisting me. She referred us here and we fell in love with this community. The facility is brand new and just opened up in June. It’s a very nice facility and seems more upscale than other places. All of the staff members are friendly and welcoming. The administrator who has been helping us since the beginning is so nice and checks in with us when we visit. It’s a beautiful facility and I would recommend it.

June 21, 2019Thank you for sharing your feedback! Our top priority is to create a wonderful environment and life for our residents.
While looking for a place for my aunt, we arrived at this facility and were quickly welcomed by the staff team. The atmosphere along with their great hospitality made us feel very welcomed. The location as well is very convenient. This is a new place so they kept everything clean and orderly. The only slight drawback of the facility is that because it is fairly new, the staff is only now getting experience. But no one is pushy and the team is really connective. I’m also very pleased with the activities offered. They have painting, art day, crafts, and bingo. Events and activities would be posted on a monthly calendar. I also know that they have a beautician that started coming in as well. The other residents there are very friendly and it seems that there is a mix of all ages. The food that they offer seems ok too. My aunt has never really made any complaints and I know they have a menu that changes. So they always are getting a variety and not eating the same thing every day. I also notice that they have a bus there that may take the residents on outings or doctor’s appointments. Overall it is a great new facility.

A Place for Mom has scored The Whitley 6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
