River Glen of St. Charles

Everyone we encountered there was incredibly helpful, kind, compassionate, caring, patient, etc. My mom was there on a respite basis, and the staff was welcoming and also did all they could to help her regain her independence. It was a difficult time for her, and we all could not have been more pleased with our experience there.

The care. My Mom is comfortable and happy. Can't ask for more. She turned 97 in February, and is declining. She probably is going to need a greater level of nursing care soon. But for now she is in a good place.

It has been smooth sailing from the beginning. [name removed] has settled in nicely and has made many friends. She brought way too much stuff but RG has been very patient while my other sister and I have tried to whittle down her possessions. The food has been marvelous and apparently all the other guests are clamoring to sit with her. As spring approaches I am sure she will enjoy being outside.

We love how our Mom has so easily acclimated herself to her new home, thanks in no small part to how caring and warm the nurses, staff, kitchen folks and others are to her. Our only real concern is the regime River Glen uses for getting and distributing medications. The process seems confusing, wonky and a little too bureaucratic.

River Glen of St. Charles is a smaller facility than some of the other new high rise ones making it easier to maneuver around. Also they have a nice outdoor environment that's pretty and serene.

You have to be there constantly for your person and be their advocate. You have to make sure they're not getting shoved to the side and that their rights are being upheld. It's all great when they give you the glowing buildup of touring and moving in, but the day-to-day experience is different. There are definitely some things that I don't like, but this is by far the best facility we looked at. That being said, it's expensive, and I'm doing a lot of their work for them. I'm being charged for things they're not providing, so be watchful with billing. I just have to keep on them about everything. My loved one does not like it there, but she needs to be for her own safety.

[name removed] was warm and welcoming, as was the facility. The residents we encountered were happy and chatty. It was like being in a 5 star hotel - plenty of amenities, pleasant atmosphere and roomy apartments.

My mother has lived at River Glen in St. Charles for the past 3-1/2 years and she has always had excellent care. When the pandemic began, River Glen’s response was immediate! They have gone above and beyond CDC regulations to keep their staff and residents healthy, to attend to the emotional needs of their residents, and to keep the families of the residents informed. My mother and my family are so grateful for all the staff members at River Glen; we could never thank them enough during this difficult time in our country.

River Glen has exceeded our expectations. My Mom reluctantly moved to River Glen from her own apartment almost 4 years ago, after a head injury. She now considers RG home and feels very safe there. We both love that her apt. is cleaned every week, sheets are washed, and then put back on the bed. I do her towels & personal clothing, but RG also offers that service. I only live 10 miles away, so the back & forth is easy. I’ve made it a point to spend lots of time at RG over the past 4 years. Prior to covid19, I knew most all of the staff, many other family members, & some therapists. The staff and therapists are professional and very approachable. I’ve met so many family members at RG. It is very nice having others around who understand. Yes, RG is expensive for my Mom. My thought initially was quality or quantity. I’m so glad she agreed that RG was the right place for her. I know we made the best choice for her. So far, my Mom has needed minimal care at RG. The care she does receive has allowed me to once again be a daughter and not a caretaker. I think RG does a good job with activities, especially these days. I commend them for working so hard to keep residents interested and engaged. My Mom loves the brain games & rediscovered exercise since joining a chair exercise group at RG. Not bad at 88 to feel safe & get moving again. I feel blessed to be part of the River Glen family.

My Mom went there a year ago and it was great then. Now, not so much. Rooms are not clean and reeked of urine - housekeeping says they will take care of but not done. Front desk - [name removed] is great, but half the time no one picks up phone so you can't talk to your Mom. [name removed] is useless, he is never there, staff even jokes about it. Overall - My family loved they place a year ago, but they have gone downhill. No one looks after the pts. they are on there own and you have to remind staff all the tine to check on Mom's. We pay a fortune and not what it was year ago.

Mother fell, went to the hospital, went into rehab. After living independently in her condo for 40 years, mother agreed to try assisted living and we had 2 weeks to find something before mother was released from rehab. We hired an Elder Care Advocacy Group to guide us. There 1st choice was River Glen of St.Charles. They had the perfect unit for Mom. It reminded my sister and I of a smaller version of her condo. Mother is very happy here. She was very afraid of being alone after falling and now says: "I feel safe, well cared for, the staff is very friendly, the people who live here are friendly and nice, it is very clean." My sister and I agree with all these statements and appreciate that outside providers now come to her as opposed to us having to take her to doctor's appointments. She has been at River Glen for 2 months and talks less and less about her condo and more and more about River Glen.

When we were looking for a home for our 94 year old step mom, we analyzed and visited numerous facilities in the suburban Chicago area. River Glen looked to be far and away the best facility. Once our mom moved in, our judgement was confirmed and our expectations were exceeded. River Glen was excellent in all respects. Great food, ambience and activities. Spotlessly clean facility that feels more like a resort hotel than assisted living. The staff is excellent and appears to have low turnover rate, which, along with excellent management, are, in my opinion, key to an superior facility. Some of our needs were probably beyond what is typical, but they were accommodated with a smile. This place is so good, that if my time comes to transition to assisted living, River Glen would be my choice. [Name removed] - Roselle,Il

We moved my father here from Seattle and the worry of this his transition and all that goes along with it couldn't have been better because of the care and concern from the entire staff at River Glen. The River Glen team help us mange all of Dads medical transitions and with guidance and support. It is such a stressful and emotional moment in a family's life when you need to find the right type of care for your parent, and you want them to feel independent, supported and cared for as well. The facility is beautiful and very "homey" feeling, the food is delicious, and the staff is really fist class! We did a lot of research before selecting River Glen and the flexible month to month program is a unique offering that allowed our family to make this transition without the stress of having to sell my father’s home of 40 year in order to make the finances work. Most other programs do not offer that. Dad is getting adjusted in his lovely apartment and I feel so grateful that is down the street from me with the care and love he deserves. River Glen- thank you for making this transition so easy on our entire family.

Our mother moved into River Glen little over one year ago; and on behalf of her and all our family, we are grateful to the entire staff at River Glen for their care- and the little things they do to make life easier for all residents. Mom celebrated her 100th birthday at River Glen this past October and the surprise “100 Balloon” release, cake and refreshments that all residents were invited to celebrate was beyond expectation. The River Glen managment staff came together and planned her wonderful surprise celebration. If that wasn’t enough they added to that by ordering an American flag flown over the White House in honor of her milestone birthday… and then had another party the following month when her flag arrived. Another celebration with a beautiful American Flag cake and more refreshments for all residents. This time with the extra special treat of having her flag presented to her by St Charles Mayor Raymond Rogina, and accompanied by letters of congratulations from President Trump and Senator Durbin. Mom’s milestone event was also featured in the Kane County Chronicle accompanied by a wonderful article by reporter Eric Schelkopf. I visit our mom regularly, and have come to know many of the caregivers, and see first-hand the joyful, selfless day to day attention by each and every staff member for all residents; we could not have found a better place for mom to live. Thank you all River Glen staff and management, and may God continue to bless everyone there for the wonderful family environment you have created for your residents. I moved my mom into assisted living at River Glen about seven months ago. I toured and researched MANY care facilities and found that River Glen was the best fit. The community is smaller than most so it has more of a family feel and easy to maneuver. The apartments are spacious and bright with full, private bathrooms and nice sized kitchenettes. I really like that the dining room is open all day. Since my mom likes to sleep in, she doesn’t have to rush and can eat whenever she wants. The property outside is gorgeous with multiple porches, gazebo and walking paths with beautiful landscaping. Every single staff member, nurse and aide greets my mom (and her dog) by name which usually includes a big hug. Her medications are meticulously managed by the top notch nursing staff. There are various daily activities which include something for everyone. The social/activities staff are so much fun and full of positive energy! My mom seems so much healthier and happier now that she is safe and no longer has the stress of managing her house or worrying about being a burden while living in our house. She has the independence and privacy of her own place with 24 hour nursing care yet we can see each other often.

We really liked this facility. They have several screened in porches, a walking club, and pathes around the facility. The one bedroom is a great size and has great windows. They have larger refrigerators than most places. I really like that they never close the kitchen. It’s open all day and said they can eat six meals if they want or just come in for ice cream. The BEST of all is that they will not throw you out if you run out of money. They is a huge deal. They have doctors that come in, so you don’t have to take them out to their doctors. We have setup an appointment for next week to take my husband’s mother in for lunch and a tour.

My mother has been at River Glen for the past year and has had an excellent experience. The staff has been very attentive and accommodating to her needs. She has enjoyed making new friends, as well as, enjoyed many of the musical performances. She feels safe, secure and well cared for. As her daughter, I couldn’t be anymore pleased and happy.

My 86 yo mom fell and was having a difficult time managing the pain/staying on top of the medicine schedule and caring for herself, living alone in a single family home. Mom’s two week respite care stay at River Glen was fabulous. I kept calling it her “vacation”...clean and quiet studio apartment, delicious food, caring staff and nurses, peaceful and friendly environment. Mom was able to rest, heal and return to her activities at home. Very thankful to EVERYONE there! And I know mom is going to miss the new friends she made there, too.
