I was told that my mother's teeth were lost her upper plate and that she had been taking them out and sitting them on the table in the recreation room but that is not true I've never seen my mother mess with her mouth or teeth in the 3 years she has been in this place I believe they were taken either by residents or an employee memory Care is on lockdown you cannot get in or get out without someone opening the doors for you so her teeth had to be in the area of her room or one of the other residents rooms I am so disappointed in this place how could this happen I called to talk to a manager and no one has returned my call it has been over two weeks I am so done with this place.

Everybody was very accommodating in the community. They made the transition from one community to another very easy and in a timely manner. The staff were consistently communicating with the family about our loved one. The variety of food could be better for the residents.

The facility is a little dated, but it is well maintained and always tidy. Our loved ones previous community, families were given a code that allowed them to come and go throughout the memory care unit but here the receptionist has to let us in. We are still getting used to it as its a new adjustment but at times we do have to wait if they are busy so we wish we were just allowed our own personalized code/card to allow us to come and go, but again we do understand it is for safety reasons. It is a bigger facility. but they meet the safety requirement's when it comes to the staff and resident ratio, but we do wish the memory care unit had a little bit more stimulation and engagement.
Good community, wanted more interaction for my loved one.
The staff only appear to care But does not give the proper care.. after a while or get tired of the Dementia patients That's not right. As a family member I shouldn't have to keep eye on even making sure laundry is done Cleanliness etc.

I can not express enough how grateful I am to Asbury Gardens. After my mom was diagnosed with vascular dementia we had to find a place quickly that would keep her safe, provide her with a dignified independent living situation and be affordable. [name removed], the admissions coordinator met with me after the diagnosis and was able to provide us with all of the above. Within 10 days, my mom had a place to live. My mom is happy, she is cared for, but most importantly, she is in a place that can help provide for her the care and support she needs at this time in her life.

Don't go there. We would not let my dad have his hearing aid and his teeth. They lost his hearing aid. They kept losing his things, glasses, hearing aids, and teeth. They did not keep the residents clean when they were eating or clean them up after meals. Many of the staff were negligent. They did not maintain the dignity of the residents.

My Mom lives in the Memory Care portion. I feel like their care is adequate at best. Mom is always dressed but often the staff fail to put on her bra and socks. I feel like she sits in a wet Depends a large part of the day. They do have some activities, but many times no one helps Mom get to the activities. The residents in memory care do not have access to being outside. There used to be a large picture window the residents could look out, but it has been blocked in construction. The furniture is very worn. The nursing staff is friendly, but the caregivers do not seem to care about the residents. My Mom's personal clothes often go missing. Communication with family is at a bare minimum. They call when Mom falls or has a med change, but I think they have to call at those times. Things like the construction or the status of our Medicaid application are never addressed. There is no family newsletter. I have called about the Medicaid application, but no one has returned my call. I think the staff we originally met with has left, but we have not heard from her replacement. I am very dissatisfied with this facility, but I have no idea what my other options are.

I was pleased to tour the Asbury Gardens Senior Living and Skilled Nursing Facility this morning. The staff had been friendly and informative on the phone but in person, the Asbury staff shined. I was shown the patient rooms that had just been modernized with technology to alert the staff to unusual activity in the room, which could prevent a medical emergency. The common areas were all filled with supervised activity and happy residents. The physical therapy staff were so enthusiastic and welcoming. It made me want to move in tomorrow! I was sorry that my brother felt the center was too far from his home to place my Mom. It was perfect for her.

For the most part I think Asbury Gardens does a very good job and are very competent. The criticism I have is of the Food Menus or lack thereof. In the past they had a very incompentent chef, but that I understand has been corrected. However, there is still not enough attention paid to offering their inhabitants proper diet for their medical conditions. There is still too much pork, ham and gravy put on all meals which all of us know is not good for diabetics. They do not offer a separate menu for diabetics. Consequently, if you are diabetic because of their inactivity, you will gain weight because of the carbs which then increases sugar and weight gain which then impacts other medical condiditions

Response from Asbury Gardens
November 19, 2018Sandra, Thank you so much for your favorable review and comments about Asbury Gardens. We take the care and nutritional needs of our residents and guests very serious here at Asbury, and follow all regulations and guidelines set forth by Health and Family Services. Assistant Administrator Nathan mentioned that the two of you spoke recently, and based on that discussion we are in the process of adding a few choices to our alternate menu to address certain dietary needs, and would ask that you reconnect with Nathan so he can let you know what our plan is. This will give our residents the ability to make better choices when looking at the daily menu. Thank you again for your review, we look forward to speaking with you.
This is a great place with a decent sized community. When I visited they had live entertainment and residents were dancing. I lived the energy here and will keep them in mind should my mom need more care.

Response from Asbury Gardens
June 27, 2018Hello, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such wonderful feedback. Your feedback is very important and we strive for excellent service. Please let us know if we can be of service to you in the future. Thanks again and have a nice day.
Asbury Gardens was a gift from the heavens for my Mom. We placed her in the memory care unit there in mid-2014 and have nothing but good things to say. Perfection does not exist when it comes to these things, but I can tell you from first hand experience Asbury Gardens does a fantastic job. Alzheimer's can be extremely challenging to deal with and I am so thankful the staff at Asbury Gardens was there to help. Placing a loved one in the care of others is incredibly stressful. We made a good decision and would gladly make the same choice all over again.

Nice facilities, very light and airy. Lots of common rooms for activities. Good plan for progressive care and transition to skilled nursing. Some odors were off-putting.

I was impressed with this supportive living community two years ago, when I tried to get my mom and her husband to transition before it was "too late." The continuum of care model was very attractive, with the addition of their SNF as well as memory care a distinct advantage. I hadn't toured memory care till now, and must say I was disappointed at the space. There seemed to be minimal common area, the hallways are long and painted dark, the staff was courteous but not overly friendly and engaged. There is a 1-2 month waiting list for memory care. That said, had Mom not come into a small "windfall," this likely would have been her one and only option other than Medicaid nursing home placement.

We went on a tour and it was good. The staff was knowledgable and answered all of our questions. The memory care here looked more institutionalized. It was a clean and nice community.

We really liked this community. It was just a little further away from the family. We had appointment for the tour but had to wait for them. The staff seemed overwhelmed maybe a little understaffed. They had good activities and clean community. They do accept medicaid which is a plus.

My father went to Asbury Gardens for rehab after hip surgery. There were a few friendly and helpful staff but I encountered problems with just about everyone else. Their lack of communication skills is a huge problem. My father contracted pneumonia while he was there and no one from the staff called me to tell me they had ordered a chest xray, diagnosed pneumonia and put him on antibiotics. The activity/dining room is uncomfortably hot. When I asked about it I was told that they kept it that way for patients because they're always cold nevermind that the rest of the facility is very cold. Later I overheard a maintenance man telling staff to keep the curtains drawn to help keep the temperature down because something was wrong with the a/c in that room. It was never fixed while Dad was there. The social worker is ridiculously hard to get a hold of and unhelpful. PT staff has no clue how to deal with someone with dementia. A patient was picking on another patient and the aides just laughed and did nothing. I could go on and on but I'll end with if you have another option besides Asbury, take it.

A Place for Mom has scored Asbury Gardens 2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
