When I was looking for an assisted living facility for my father, I wanted a community that would encompass assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing. The Gables on Pelham has all of these resources on site and seemed to be the perfect solution. My 95 yr old father has been at Gables for over a year and has really flourished, making great friends and getting physical therapy regularly. He walks on his own without any assistance. A few weeks ago, he suffered a fall in his room. As soon as they realized something was wrong, the staff was quick to respond. [name removed], the Health and Wellness Director, contacted me immediately and had EMS take him to the hospital. After a short stay, he was back at Gables in skilled nursing. He then was able to return to his apartment. The entire time, staff was amazing, supportive and kept me informed. After this incident I am confident that our choice of the Gables was the best choice. I'm at peace knowing he is in excellent hands.

I moved my mom and dad to the Gables two months ago and my mom told me last week that it feels like home to them. Everyone at The Gables has been very helpful and kind to both of my parents. There are daily social activities and a beautiful outdoor area that they enjoy.

Overall the facility was nice and well run. The staff was helpful when we visited. Housekeeping kept up with most items. The communication with family was a little difficult. Maybe setting up a scheduled time to help speak might be good. I would recommend to others.

I think the staff have really good attitudes and have been very welcoming and kind to my dad. We haven't been there long enough to identify any areas for improvement and it is so much better than where we were.

Our loved one has just begun to become more involved and is trying g to adjust to not being in her home. As a child, I am pleased with the staff and the way they are working to get her involved and help her to feel at home

Frankly...there was an ownership change. It became very evident after that change their priority was profit based. Communication was not as free flowing. Some policies changed without any notification to families. My mother passed in January this year. Very important to us and discussed extensively during interviews was meals in the room. We were repeatedly assured meals would not be provided in the rooms more than two days without notification to us and without doctor approval. This would insure both that she was eating and that she was not sequestering. After she was admitted to the ER dehydrated to the point of almost kidney failure and many other issues we learned we could not determine the last time she actually ate. This was because trays of food had been delivered to her room for an undetermined number of days. The trays were then just picked up with no monitoring of food intake. Just one example.

We cannot comment on the activities as our loved one will not participate. They are friendly and have been easy to work with especially since I am not in town. Clean and the employees seem to like working there. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would absolutely recommend The Gables on Pelham to other families.

Everything is going okay here. My loved one complains about things. But that's just how they are now. The staff communication with the family could be better. My loved one said the food is not good. The community is supposed to offer choices for meals to the residents.

I toured this community and it was good. Nice tour, everyone seemed friendly.
I toured The Gables on Pelham and it was a good tour. We chose another community because The Gables is a multi-care and multi-level community. My brother has dementia; we preferred a one story community to avoid confusion.
We had a pretty good tour experience with The Gables on Pelham. But after talking with the sales staff, story #1 and story #2 that he gave us were not adding up so we just figured this would not be the best fit for our loved one.
We had a good tour experience with The Gables on Pelham. The assisted living portion of the facility looked great, but my mom needed memory care. They do have memory care here but I just did not click with the staff as much as I did with the staff at another facility.
We chose The Gables on Pelham because of the very convenient location and the cleanliness, it felt more like home. It does seem like one big family, the residents are all very polite, happy and smiling when we go to visit. They are very engaged as well and offer a lot of activities. They have things like entertainment that comes in, crafts, bingo, today in history classes, etc. I would definitely recommend the facility to others.

Moved in our mom. Exec Dir was aloof and would not engage with family, never did. Food served doesn't match the menu at the dining entrance. Meals include still partly frozen chicken, room-temp soup, or odd dishes: lasagna with corn and a roll (??). Healthy fare was limited/unavailable. No attempt at dietary balance. Caregivers try hard, but appear over-tasked. Moms medications would be missing, took forever to order (the Exec nurse has zero expedite for quality of life needs/meds), or overlooked on the med cart. Exec Nurse was emailed 3 times in 2 months, and never acknowledged/returned an email. Mom had severe accident on her carpet, due to incorrect med dosing. We removed her 2 1/2 weeks later, and the carpet was never cleaned, despite repeated requests. We were even told by cleaning staff that "they didn't own a carpet shampooer". (!) Just the weirdest lack of care or concern from a facility whose job is to take care of elderly folks. We truly feared for our mom's life while there

The community does a good job engaging residents and having activities for them to do. I feel that you should definitely look into the community and see if it would be a good fit for your loved one. The value is very good also compared to other communities.

Overall, we're pleased. Like with any place, we've had some issues here and there - with the laundry, and a couple of times they confused our loved one with another resident [removed] when they approached her about a medical issues. I think they've had a lot of staff change in the last few months, which is maybe where the confusion has come in. But we like the convenience of the place. And overall people are nice, including the residents. Our loved one seems pleased with the new chef. Communication can be lacking a little at times between staff and resident. But overall we're very pleased.
