Overall, our experience at The Cottages has been a good one. My mother has dementia and is still in Assisted Living. We have been here for [date removed] years. The management team is A+. Great communication. Personable. Caring. Can't say enough good things about them. The nursing care is excellent. Activities are good, both in Assisted Living and Memory Care. Meals are ok. Definitely nutritious. Large portions. Some things are very good. Others so, so. But we're not expecting fine dining. Generally speaking, the daily caregiving staff (M-F) is pretty good. There are some that are exceptional, others that are somewhat lazy. Weekend staffing is not up to par with weekday care and turnover is high. The Cottages does seem to promote their exceptional people but that always impacts daily care during the transitional period. I'm sure this is an industry problem and not isolated to The Cottages of Perry Hall. I hope this helps. Overall, The Cottages does a good job.... Read more

I would say come check them out. It's a nice place, and I would recommend them to anybody. The people I've talked to seem to be taking good care of Mom. Everyone seems to be very friendly. They told me they finally got Mom to go and play Bingo, which is great. The cost is well worth it, especially compared to where she was at before. The Cottages costs considerably less and is a much nicer place.

I do believe it's a good facility. I just think they're understaffed. I think their heart is in the right place and that they do care about the residents. I just don't think they can always do an efficient job because they're having to take care of too many residents at a time.

Response from The Cottages of Perry Hall
September 17, 2021Hi Barb, Thank you so much for sharing. I am so glad you can see the positive intent behind everything we do for our residents and their families. We do acknowledge the staffing challenges and are actively working through this nationwide shortage, the best we can to ensure that your loved one and all our residents get the quality care they deserve. We know you and your family had other options to choose from and we thank you for choosing the Cottages of Perry Hall to serve your mom and enhance her daily living. She has been a wonderful addition to our community.
The Cottages community is very well kept and the staff member are extremely friendly. I have been able to see some of the lunches and dinners and they look to be pretty good. Our loved one is on the memory care side, and while the activities are good I do think those could use a little improvement. However I do understand they are getting a new activities person so hopefully those improvements start to happen.

Response from The Cottages of Perry Hall
September 17, 2021Hi Mr. Roland, Thank you for your feedback and we appreciate you continuing to send referrals our way. We are delighted that you chose us to take care of your wife and am so honored that you have referred us to so many of your friends. We are grateful to have the relationship that we do with you and your family. Thank you for choosing the Cottages!
Our family did a virtual tour with The Cottages and it was good but just not something we were interested in. The cottages were smaller, and we just thought our loved one would wont something a little bigger and more stimulating environment.
We haven't been able to see much of the community because they still have restrictions up and the activities are still restricted at the moment. We do think The Cottages could improve on keeping track of their residents belongs, which is a huge deal.

We're very happy with Cottages. They've been wonderful. Our loved one had a lot of health issues, and we had to move her very fast. They made it an easy process. She's doing wonderful and is very happy there. The staff are absolutely wonderful. They treat her like she's their own mother. To begin with, we didn't get much communication, but I know they were having some changes in staff and such. But now it's great. We get communication at least once a week, and in addition to that, they have a Zoom once a week you can hop on. We haven't had much of a chance to go inside due to Covid, but looking in through the windows, the resident rooms look nice. They made a little beach-themed room designated for indoor visitation. And then outside there is a beautiful wooded area with a gazebo where you can sit and visit with your family member. Our loved one is not participating in the activities much, but they do send out a brochure each month listing the activities that they offer.

[name removed] WAS WONDERFUL! IT HAS BEEN A VERY DIFFICULT MOVE IN FOR [name removed] DUE TO COVID AND THE DEATH OF MY HUSBAND. [name removed] AND THE STAFF HAVE TRIED TO DO AS MUCH AS CAN BE DONE DURING THESE TROUBLING TIMES. I DO FEEL [name removed] IS BEING TAKEN CARE OF WELL. ANYTHING WE HAVE ASKED WAS WORKED OUT PROMPTLY. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH SOMEONE TO HELP ME. THE FAMILY IS JUST WAITING TO BE ABLE TO COME IN AND VISIT WITH [name removed]. WE HOPE THAT WE BE VERY, VERY SOON!

So far it has been a great experience and we have had no issues. I would recommend them to others looking, considering the pandemic especially they have been really good about things.
My parents recently moved to The Cottages and we are beyond grateful for everyone from the Marketing Director [name removed], the Health and Wellness Nurse [name removed], [name removed] from Maintenance, med techs, in addition to every caregiver. They have embraced my parents and have gone above and beyond to ease them in this transition to assisted living, reassuring my family every step of the way! We are thankful for The Cottages!

[name removed] is an angel. She made it so easy to place my dad there. Her kindness and caring sold me on the Cottage. So far my dad is happy there being there only a week. I am very comfortable with my dad being there since I can’t visit due to covid. [name removed] set up his room and an aide ,[name removed], has formed a special bond with my dad. It is heartwarming to know this. The staff is always available to help. So so far so good. No complaints just praise for making my dad part of their family.

With all the challenger that we faced during COVID, I am please with the care that my mother has received from the Cottages of Perry Hall. I am notified if there are problems and he staff has been very helpful. The marketing director and activities director have answered any questions or concerns that we have had. I look forward to being able to visit in person, not just outside. My mother seems to like the facility and is meeting the other residents and participating in activities that have started up.

Response from The Cottages of Perry Hall
February 27, 2021Thank you Tony for your kind words! It has been an absolute joy to see your mom blossom the way she has! She has become the social butterfly of our 9902 cottage and has equally helped contribute to a successful transition for other new residents who she can relate with. We equally are grateful for the wonderful relationship we have with you and her family. We pride ourselves on open communication and addressing the needs of our residents and their families promptly.
I would give zero stars if I could. During my grandfathers one year stay here, his hearing aids were misplaced 3-4 times, his stereo went missing, and so did multiple phones. My family paid for all of this stuff to be replaced. They never took responsibility when obviously something fishy went on. Unfortunately my grandfather passed a week ago, and today I went to pick up his belongings. MULTIPLE BELONGINGS from his room were missing, when asked about them, the “helpers” had no explanations but INSTEAD went out to their cars and grabbed my grandfathers belongings FROM THEIR VEHICLES and gave them to me. They said “we were going to call the family and ask if it was okay to take these items”. These items were already in their cars, and if I did not ask them for them, I would’ve never received them, or found out they were stolen. The only call we received was us asking to pick up his belongings so they could move another tenant in. I AM THE FAMILY. After calling them out on their poor poor actions, I was asked to leave the property. Do not send your loved ones here unless you want an early death and possessions stolen.

My 92 year old mother was a resident at the Cottages of Pery Hall for 3 months after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke, which left her paralyzed on her right side and impaired speech. She was confined to a wheel chair and was not able to use the bathroom. Her cottage was clean and the food was prepared in the cottage for 16 residents. She liked the food and the staff was kind and fairly conscientious. Overall, we were happy with her care, but we visited every day, twice a day to monitor her care. My biggest concern was that they were often understaffed, which put a burden on the rest of the staff, who were trying to do the best they could do. I expressed this concern more than once and suggested they have a floater, who could fill in when one of the 4 cottages had a no-show, but that did not happen.

We are very pleased with the care and attention my mother in law receives at the Cottages of Perry Hall. With her dementia she can be very difficult to deal with at times, but the staff at the Cottages are very patient with her.

Of the communities I visited they made the best presentation by far. After 8 months they have lived up to their promises and my wife happy. Their nurses [name removed] and [name removed] are top notch. The aides are well trained and competent. The director is as hard working as everyone else.

The staff in the memory care unit at The Cottages are very patient with my father who has dementia and periods of agitation. I’m thankful for their help. My father seems to be adjusting to his new environment. Much of my anxiety has lessened knowing my father is well cared for.

This facility had nice sized rooms. The staff seemed friendly and residents seemed well cared for. The ratio of staff to residents is great, each cottage has a nice small community feel. [Name removed] was very knowledgeable and friendly. A good option for the price.

Visited this facility but was not impressed. I didn't like the fact that it consisted of smaller individual units apart from the main building. Residents must go outside to go to the main building.

We like Quail Run. The staff is great. I love the staff and the nursing staff is great too. My mom is comfortable and happy. It a nice place. I'm glad we chose that one for mom. I think they can gear their activities toward the residents more. The activities are kind of a general thing. They have some in each building and mom participates in a lot of them but there are some that can't. It would be nice if they had something that everyone could participate in.

I have nothing to compare to but I think overall it's been good. I think that assisted living facilities are outrageously prices but I think for the care and for the size of the room and the conditions of the facility, it's very reasonable. I think the care gets better every time. This is the first time my mother has been put in an assisted living facility. They have lots of activities. They take them out and go for walks. For being memory care they take her out a lot. They have cook outs and parties pretty regularly. They treat my mom well. The RN that cares for my mother is fantastic and the person that runs the memory care unit is awesome but the lady who runs the facility is very rude and condescending.
