Our experience with The Cottages of Perry Hall review

Overall, our experience at The Cottages has been a good one. My mother has dementia and is still in Assisted Living. We have been here for [date removed] years. The management team is A+. Great communication. Personable. Caring. Can't say enough good things about them. The nursing care is excellent. Activities are good, both in Assisted Living and Memory Care. Meals are ok. Definitely nutritious. Large portions. Some things are very good. Others so, so. But we're not expecting fine dining. Generally speaking, the daily caregiving staff (M-F) is pretty good. There are some that are exceptional, others that are somewhat lazy. Weekend staffing is not up to par with weekday care and turnover is high. The Cottages does seem to promote their exceptional people but that always impacts daily care during the transitional period. I'm sure this is an industry problem and not isolated to The Cottages of Perry Hall. I hope this helps. Overall, The Cottages does a good job.... Read more

Cottages are awesome!

From the beginning to the end of the process of moving my Mother in law from Georgia to Maryland was as smooth as it gets! They were so helpful and did so much for us. They are very informative and knowledgeable as to helping us and leading us through. Highly recommend The Cottages of Perry Hall. Our mom loves it there. ??

pleased with the experience at The Cottages at Perryhall

As the caregiver for my aunt, I was pleased with the warm atmosphere and the level of care given to her while she was at the Cottages at Perryhall. We experienced more one on one care at the facility compared to the larger facilities. The price was reasonable compared to some of the other facilities. To be honest, I wasn't there for any of the activities but I would have Volunteers come in and do aerobics, live band especially around Christmas time playing Christmas songs, someone doing story time, arts and crafts, church service. Not sure if they already have those activities. In regards to the food, for dinner I would give the patients a choice. Even if it's only a choice between two different meals. I have recommended The Cottages to some individuals.

Overall good experience with staff and community.

Overall experience - very positive. My husband was in assisted living and the transferred to memory care after 1 month. Rooms are cleaned once a week or more often if needed. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Most are friendly, patient with residents with dementia. When I ask for medical care (podiatrist, wound nurse), requests are honored. He was receiving PT and OT but recently haven't heard if this has continued. Biggest issue is other residents taking his belongings. He has lost blankets, sweatshirts, pillow, sweatpants, slippers. Staff don't look at names on clothes when doing laundry. Even when I have noted another resident wearing his sweatshirt, staff didn't return it to him. So I do all of his laundry. But if room is unlocked during the day, other residents can take his things. Much better meals now that a chef was hired but everyone eats the same food. Today a resident didn't like what they were having and I didn't see them give her anything else.. There are many additional activities (trunk and treat, trips out). The daily activities are limited. Much time is spent watching TV. Hard to say since this is the only assisted living/memory care facility we have been involved with. Every day I am washing bedding. For the cost, I would hope staff would be more on top of his toileting/hygiene needs.

Very Happy

When I was interviewed as a new client, I immediately felt welcomed. I felt as if I walked into someone's home instead of an institution. The Cottages are not overly large but are very homey with an open space living area where the kitchen, dining and living area are in one space. There is a lot of natural light and bright colors. The inside and outside of the Cottages are very clean and there are no smells. The admissions person, [name removed] is so welcoming and positive as are all of the staff. There are many activities and field trips for the residents. And the food is good. I feel very good about the care my husband is getting.

Help is there for your loved one

Everything is great at The Cottages of Perry Hall. They communicate with the family everyday through messenger and email. I visit Mom once or twice a week. She is always clean and in the main dining- living room Kitchen area. They have lots of activities from exercise etc. They have a huge calendar of events throughout the month everyday. They take the residents out to get ice cream etc. The food always looks good. There are lots of people talking to the residents and making sure that they are safe. The furniture is comfortable. My Mother is more physically active at this facility. At her previous facility she was left in her bed and she was on Oxygen all the time. Since she has been living here at The Cottages of Perry Hall Assisted Living, she is never on Oxygen. She has Physical Therapy and Memory Therapy regularly. I have talked to a woman whose husband was there for three years and she has told me that it is the next best thing to being at home. The bedroom and bathroom that mom has is always clean, as is the rest of the place. I always see the housekeeping staff cleaning. They like my mom and mention things that she has said to them in regards to her upbringing etc. They are always friendly to me and mom. They will be opening a small consignment shop on site for the residents to get involved with etc. in September. I would recommend The Cottages of Perry Hall to others.

Most Amazing AL, MC & Staff!!

Looking for AL/MC is so very stressful. [name removed] the sales and marketing director truly made our search so much easier. I canceled all other tours after meeting with her. She put my mind to ease immediately. This facility is smaller. 4 buildings each with 16 rooms. 32 memory care and 32 assisted living. The staff is amazing. The residents I met while touring were all happy and healthy and clean. There were activities happening which was good. We are definitely happy with our choice of picking The Cottages. Pick them. You won’t be disappointed.

Fair

Beautiful facility with a concept of small groups is great. Some staff very helpful but many overworked and unskilled. Food is fair, cleanliness of room especially the bathroom poor, showers sporadic, and response time as sporadic as the showers. Two staff for 16 people is not adequate if they have to do everything from showers to cleaning to cooking to dressing making the beds and responding to emergencies without adequate training.

A good place for our family member.

The Cottages appears to be a good value. The staff are extremely friendly and very attentive. They're very organized. They send out messages constantly, keeping you updated with what's taking place. You always know who to call and can always reach someone when you need to. Whenever we got there to visit, we're happy with what we see. Our family member's bed is made, and she is properly dressed and looks well cared for. We're concerned about the cost if she has to move to memory care, but we appreciate that they gave us the option to negotiate that price when the time comes.

Great place, go check it out. You will not regret it.

I have been searching for AL care for my dad. This place was cozy and the staff was welcoming and friendly. I met the sales director [name removed] and she could not have been more helpful and patient with me. She walked me through the entire process and explained everything so well. I can truly tell that her heart is at the Cottages with those residents. I did not see any meals or activities but I do know that they do some fun stuff while there.

Looks great on the surface!

My mother, who suffers from dementia was a resident at the Cottages of Perryhall for two months. During that time there were problems with her bedding being soiled with urine. The bedding I removed a week earlier was still in the hamper soiled, the room smelled of urine, there was a ring around her toilet and the floors were sticky. When I alerted staff, the problem was not corrected until I cleaned the room myself. The staff were outside feeding the deer bananas. After, sending an email to the Director, these problems improved slightly. However, after being taken to the hospital for a medical emergency, my mother tested positive for Covid 19 in the emergency room. I was told no one else at The Cottages tested positive, which I do not believe. She was not allowed to return to The Cottages unless we paid extra for a guard to set outside her door to keep her inside. After quarantine, I found her soiled. I gave notice and moved my mother only to find out she also had a UTI.

Tour experience

I did not feel that the location was safe. It is on a dead end road and behind that is woods, so if someone were to get out they would get lost. They had cottages for memory care with a certain amount of residents in each one and then one large gathering area. They brought food to the cottage from the main building and I thought my loved one would easily slip out the door. We were not impressed and it also did not smell good.

tour of The Cottages

We toured The Cottages and realized that they are set up in little pods; it's not a normal complex building you'd see at other communities. if my loved one were to be placed in a pod with residents who aren't communicative or friendly, she would essentially be stuck in "pod hell". at [community name removed] all of the residents are housed in one large complex, which makes it a lot easier to make friends throughout the building.

My wife needed professional assisted memory care because of advanced dementia. We were very lucky to find "The Cottages of Perry Hall" The home like atmosphere made the transfer very comfortable and easy for the patient to adapt to these new suroundings. The loving care given by the health staff was increditable. This experience gave our family comfort knowing the she was happy and was receiving the care she needed.
