Response from The Birches at Harleysville
November 9, 2024Thank you for taking time to review The Birches. I'm sorry that you felt that the community was understaffed. Our staffing patterns always exceed what is required, but we also recognize that there are times of the day that are more busy than others. Our whole team is invested in meeting the needs of our residents and we work diligently to ensure all residents get the care that is needed.
I would say the staff was very attentive and caring. Everyone I have come in contact with has been professional and friendly and really seemed to car about the residents.

September 22, 2024Although I am biased of our amazing staff, I agree with everything that you mentioned in your review! Thank you for sharing your experience with other families who may also be looking for a place for their loved one. Justin Mason, Executive Director
I put my husband in the Birches when I could no longer care for him at home. I experienced first hand other skilled care communities where the hospital sent my husband to rehabilitate. He found them depressing and I found them lacking. On the other hand upon walking into the Birches you get a whole different feeling. In fact after my husband was there he said to me "When are we checking out?". He thought we were at a hotel. The staff did their best and there were two workers who my husband and I liked VERY much. The activities were wonderful and we enjoyed them together. Musicians and singers were brought in and parties planned so we never felt like we were missing out on holidays. The activities director was VERY caring and would get my husband and take him to an activity when I wasn't there to do so. The price was much less than other facilities also.

September 22, 2024We appreciate your positive feedback and recognizing those who went above and beyond as well. We enjoyed so much having your husband stay with us and we are always here if you need our help again in the future. Justin Mason, Executive Director
The Birches of Harleysville has such a caring and empathetic staff. I started working with [name removed] at the very onset of my mother needing additional care. Even though mom didn't live there for almost a year after our family started inquiring about their facility, the staff continued to stay in touch and answer any questions we had during our journey. When mom became a resident there, she immediately became part of their family and we were blessed to have such a caring staff. We visited as much as we wanted and were thankful that mom had the care she needed and deserved.

September 22, 2024Thanks so much for sharing your mom and families positive experiences here at the community. It is our privilege to take care of the residents that we serve daily, and they do become part of our family, so thank you for entrusting moms care to all of us. Justin Mason, Executive Director
Overall the experience was good. Mom was in assisted living\personal care. Occasionally she would have to wait a while for someone to come to her room. Food was excellent and the activities and entertainment was very good.

My GRANDFATHER HAS BEEN A RESIDENT AT THE BIRCHES. SINCE MAY 2023, MOVING FROM ANOTHER LOCAL COMMUNITY AFTER BEING UNHAPPY, THE BIRCHES MAY HAVE A WAIT LIST AT TIMES TO MOVE IN, BUT IT'S WORTH THE WAIT. My GRANDFATHER IS SO MUCH HAPPIER HERE!

August 30, 2024Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and we are just as happy having your Grandfather living in the community as he is living here!
The Birches was an amazing facility for the decline of a loved one. We suddenly found ourselves unprepared. The team provided comfort and guidance along the way. We were relieved to have our loved one taken care of at this facility. After a few stays at rehab center, the Birches was a new home where we were always welcomed.

First of all the staff are very nice and helpful, especially the dining staff. How the community is kept is great and the other residents are very friendly. But the staff is really excellent.

I moved my mother out of the Birches after 3 months. The overall experience was poor. The did not provide any updates on her condition. They tried to move her to memory care when it was not needed. Total money grab. The Executive Director provides no assistance. After we moved my mother to another facility., I asked her how they treated her and she said good evening when you are not here. This told me she was not treat very well at the Birches. They are not proactive. Never provided any information on my mother's condition. I needed to initiate any care requests. Never got my mother to go to the dining hall. Always delivered her food at a cost of [fee removed] per meal. Total [fee removed] per day. I would not recommend the Birches at Harleysville. Not patient friendly.

June 5, 2024We are truly sorry that your expectations were not met. We recognize that it is difficult to trust the care of someone that you love to others and we take that responsibility very seriously. The Birches team is committed to providing a safe environment and exceptional care to all our residents and have added your comments to our Quality Assurance program for ongoing review.
In the last 18 months, my brother and sister-in-law have lived in the memory unit at the Birches. The staff has been helpful and sensitive to their needs. My only challenge at time has been to keep track of their clothing following laundry on the premises. I understand this is a problem in many communities. But I am indeed grateful that we found the Birches for my brother and sister-in-law. I am so grateful that we found the Birches.

May 22, 2024We are so glad that you and your family are part of The Birches Family! If you continue to have ongoing issues with the laundry, please let me know. Thank you for entrusting us with your brother and sister-in-laws care. Justin Mason, Executive Director
My love one with Alzheimer’s was isolated for 5 days with mild Covid. Family was denied visitation, no updates as promised by the Nurse. Day 6 got call from ER, not the Birches, that she was admitted unresponsive, severely dehydrated, lost 12 pounds. She was only in the Birches for 16 days. As a result, she is now in skilled nursing, puréed food, difficulty swallowing and unable to walk. Would definitely not recommend for your loved ones.

February 22, 2024Thank you Marilyn for your kind words. We are so glad that you and your brother chose The Birches. He has been such a pleasure and we take great pride that you gave us the opportunity to know and care for him. Thank you
I would say the staff is very friendly and truly seems to care about the residents. They get to know each resident they care for and try to cater to their particular needs. We chose the Birches based on cleanliness, responsiveness, and location compared to some other facilities.
