Response from The Avenues of Fort Bend
August 23, 2024Hello, we’re glad to hear you like the residents and would recommend our community. We take your comments on communication seriously and appreciate your feedback. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you or your family.
My mother has been here for 6 yrs, but last September the new mgmt came in and everything changed. My mom has alzheimer's and diabetes and immediately upon the new staff changes she started being sent out to the hospital for every blood sugar over 200, refusing to just give her more insulin as directed by her doctor. They have refused to help us at every turn, and when we would find a solution that would work for a month and then they would say that they could not do that anymore. Most recently her trips to the ER she has been in diabetic ketoacidosis and her A1Cs are around 11, which is a far cry from the 6 or 7 previously. They have refused to give her a diabetic diet, then refused to give her insulin when they give her an overabundance of carbs. And today when we have finally found a new place that will take her and help her, just out of cruelty they give her high carbs for breakfast and try to send her to the ER, so she will miss her transport to the new location.

I would not recommend that place. My experience hadn't been good. When there's an issue it's hard to resolve or doesn't get resolved at all.

My loved ones room was not too clean but the community seemed to be clean. Some of the nursing staff were not nic. The food was sometimes too spicy. My loved one enjoyed some of the activities, such as music and games. It was very expensive and I feel I did not receive the level of care that was expected. It was a beautiful faclity. The staff can be very nice. Be sure to, keep a close eye on the staff, and your loved one as well. My loved ones clothes, sometimes were not returned after being washed, for almost a week, and clothes were missing. In addition, my loved one did not always receive medication.

August 23, 2022Guillermo, thank you for taking the time to leave such a kind review. Please let us know if we can provide any more assistance to you and your family!
Our parents are living there somewhat independently but whatever our parents need the staff will do it for them. We really appreciate just how hard the staff worked to get our loved ones moved in and set up in a comfortable apartment - they have been so accommodating to our love ones needs and overall they have just been wonderful. They discontinued the activities for about a month when they had a covid outbreak, but they are starting to bring them back so we are excited to see what all our loved ones do. The meals could use a little more flavor, our loved ones say at times it is a little bland and it would be nice if here and there they would offer up some soda options. However the dining experience is fantastic, they always know what our loved one orders for breakfast and bring it her to promptly. We would absolutely recommend this community to other families.

March 7, 2022Patricia, thank you for visiting us and for taking the time to leave your feedback!
We chose The Avenues of Fort Bend because it was a very nice looking facility for the price and the services provided. It is also convenient to where my sister lives. I have only seen my moms apartment, but it is perfect size not too big not too small. The best part about the community is that they have had no outbreaks of COVID 19 and have been great with their safety protocols. I would recommend.

The tour went well. [Name removed] was very informative. We discussed possibility of using the assisted living area, with level one added to it. I liked the assisted living facility. The memory care part was not to my liking. I definitely won't use the memory care. I am thinking about assisted living. The memory care area reminds me of adult day care. The activity room is very nice. The outdoor patio is poor, no shade area, no pillows on chairs. The staff was very nice. I liked the dining room at the assisted living area. It's a family private dining area that can be reserved for special occasions.

We are happy with The Avenues of Fort Bend. I know my parent is safe and looked after. I wish more attention was given to the daily hygiene of my parent, though. We pay for a certain level of care, and they tend to lack attention in this area.

The residents and staff were friendly. The facility is tucked behind a hotel which offers discounts to out-of-town visitors for residents of the home. Beautiful courtyard located in the middle of the building offering nice view from surrounding apartments for residents. Plenty of activities and interaction with surroundings community. Pre-school next door visits frequently often performing or residents can read to children. Dining is formal (3 meals daily) with snack bar in lobby.

May 2, 2019WOW! Thank you so much for the phenomenal review! It is an honor to serve our residents and we're so glad that you have been able to experience the passionate care that we provide. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us! You are a GEM!
My loved one moved to Oyster Creek over 2 years ago. Everything was very good until about 8 months or so ago. I believe it was sold. The food went from good to barely edible. The food choices from many to very few. Every day they ran out of items on the menu and often I doubt they were even made. The meat (even chicken) is tough and hard to chew. If I were in a restaurant I would send it back - and I never do that even when it's not the greatest. The staff has always been wonderful and caring. They still are but they have cut back on kitchen help and caregivers are not forced to help serve food so people are not getting proper care. There is not enough help in the dining room at all and many people get tired of waiting and leave. It's deplorable. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. It is deplorable.

We arrived 10 minutes prior to our appointment. No one was at the front desk, so we signed in and sat down. Staff walked past us, but did not inquire as to the nature of our visit. The appointment time came, so I had to ask a dining room server for assistance. The first sever(female), told me that she didn't know if [Removed] would be in today, despite the fact that I told her I had an appointment for today. She shrugged her shoulder and stated that she didn't know. Another server(male), overheard the conversation and reassured me that he would call [Removed]. He was able to reach her, she was running late. The tour: General population area was decorated beautifully, with plenty of lighting. The dining room had tablecloths, with folded napkins, and silverware. The inner courtyard was beautifully landscaped, with an occasional project in progress. The outside seating had cushions, Umbrella over the Table...like someone's nice backyard. The memory care side reeked of disinfectant. The dining area was small with a few plain tables(no tablecloth, no folded napkins). Almost cafeteria-like. Their courtyard had high black bars visible(couldn't they strategically place greenery so as not to make it so prison-like?). My Mother-in-law loves to garden, but they had 2 window boxes with nothing in it. Outside seating did not have any cushions...looked cheap in relation to the general population. I mentioned this to [Removed], so she proceeded to give me a spiel about safety & comfort. I had to remind her that I was a Nurse, so safety does not mean a bland uninviting environment. She then said that she would mention it to the owners. The bed in the room that she decided to show me was not of the same caliber as the beds on the general population side. My Mother-In-Law is aware, performs her own ADLs, cooks, makes her bed, works in her garden, sews, etc with standby assist. She needs blood sugar check/med reminder, diet control, and monitoring so as not to leave the facility. The people that my husband and I saw in the memory care area did not appear oriented to much....this is a big no for us.

They offer some activities including bingo and trips out. The food is good and we have eaten there numerous times. The staff are helpful, encouraging and wonderful. The community is newer and very clean. My parents have started making friends and they seem to really like living here. This community is located close to family and I would recommend it.

The staff at Oyster Creek are taking good care of my father and keeping him safe. They have a young girl as the activities director and she is very good. She has different things for the residents to do each day. It has been a good experience so far.

I thought this community was very clean and was well taken care of by the staff. The lady who had gave my mother and I a tour of there facility was very friendly but was not very knowledgeable about there community and everything they had to offer. I guess the guy who normally does the tours was not there so it was not her fault.

Be WARE! I wouldnt bring my dog there. If I could give a negative star I would. This place was a nightmare for my mother. She suffered [Removed] there. I would find random bruises on her body. The workers were no longer friendly after i paid my mom's money and moved my mom in. They would not help her eat. She had a hard time coordinating the food to her mouth. They were always short staffed.. My mom's pamper would always be so wet and she would always smell of urine and feces even when they tell me they had given her a shower. They must have also given her a different type of medication to keep her in a daze. She was so different after just two months. Now suddenly she needs a wheelchair and she walked fine before coming here. Her clothes and shoes started missing. She no longer talked. There were no activities and no field trips. I don't know what they were doing to my mom after hours when the lights were off. I know she was different and seemed so depressed. After two months of bringing my complaints to management, who by the way knows nothing, the same things kept happening. After they took my moms hard earned money, they showed me how they could care less about her wellbeing. She's back at home with me and walking around just fine and she's no longer in a daze. So if you can avoid this place, please do. They sell you a lie! They are lazy and [Removed]
