I like that there's a lot of activities to keep my dad busy and social. However, the dining area needs to hire quality staff for serving and cooking. The chef that was there when my dad first moved there left, and they haven't got the kitchen back to the level that it was before. Unfortunately, my dad pays all that money, but he ends up ordering in a lot because the food there is just horrible... Read more

The management deserves a really high mark but due to the pandemic the staffing was challenging but it seems to be getting better. The food is very edible and tasty but the presentation is not always the best. However, you are allowed to order whatever you want off of the menu. This particular community is ideal for a certain age group and above. If it is a young couple looking for a community this is not suited for that level of community it is geared towards a older community.

The staff are very warm and inviting at this community. The community is beautiful and still looks really new. They have a lot of activities at the community as well for the residents. They are currently under new management and enjoy working for them as a leader in the industry.

Our tour at Savanna House was good. We didn’t have any problems with the facility. We just didn’t like the locations of the apartments that were available at the time we would have needed one.
We chose Savanna House because of the convenient location and the value for the money, they had a great deal going on at the time that we signed. Overall I would recommend them to others looking.

May 7, 2021Aww! Thank you. I have to agree with you and we do love our residents!
We chose Savanna House because of the activities provided as well as the food. My parents have been really happy with the food, It is chef prepared they have a menu that they choose their meals from and if there is something they want that is not on the menu they can order it anyways. They have a 2 bedroom 2 bath with a balcony and they are very happy with it. I have been very impressed with how they have handled covid, they lock down when they need to and open up when they can. I would highly recommend to others looking.

April 7, 2021Thank you for the kind words about our wonderful community! I feel we have done a great job of keeping our residents engaged over the last year. Our Chef takes pride in doing his best to make home cooked meals the residents will enjoy. Best, Dawn Grant, Executive Director
My mother has been in memory care here for six months. She's very content here. Her previous residence she was always agitated. Plus they've kept the residents safe through the COVID19.

September 25, 2020Thank you for noticing! We do take pride in our Community. We can proudly say that we are one of the only Communities that have been Covid-Free in the East Valley!
We had been searching for an assisted living community for months and my Mom wasn’t happy with anything we showed her, then we walked into Savanna House and everything changed. While she was still reluctant to move out of her home she really liked the look and feel of Savanna House and moved in less than two weeks later. The staff has been very good to Mom; they were responsive to her needs and always went the extra mile to help her feel welcome and adjust in her new place. There were lots of great activities, she really liked the food, and Savanna House quickly became her home and the staff part of our family! A few months ago, during the pandemic, I received a call from [name removed], the Executive Director. Mom’s memory was fading and we discussed moving her to the memory unit. [name removed] was so caring and kind as she helped me through this decision. Since the facility was on lockdown the staff, not me, had to move Mom to her new apartment. I can’t say enough good things about the great care she continues to receive. Since I can’t be there with her I’m extremely grateful for the memory unit staff who care for her as if she was their Mom. I recommend Savanna House to everyone whose looking. Savanna House is not just a place to live, it’s a home and more family for my Mom!

September 25, 2020Wow! I'm speechless. So beautifully articulated. This is exactly how we want our families to feel. Thanks for noticing how hard we try to please our families and residents. Thank you for your faith in us. We too look as the residents as part of our families. We are looking forward to re-opening our community hopefully soon! Warmly, Dawn
My father [name removed] lives in Memory Care at Savanna House. He is so happy there. He tells me everyone is like family to him. The Savanna House Team has been wonderful. He eats well, and since he has been there, his sense of humor came back. The community is always very clean and organized. I love the enclosed outdoor courtyard. [name removed], the Executive Director has been great with communicating with families. I can't thank Savanna House enough for all they do for my dad. He gets great care, creative, fun activities and lots of love from everyone.

September 25, 2020We love your dad. He is a hoot and a fabulous addition to our memory care neighborhood. Thank you for noticing how much fun we like to have. The staff and residents enjoy having him around. We look forward to see you visiting again sometime soon Post Covid. Best, Dawn
About a year ago, I needed to find another assisted living community for my Mom and I am grateful every day that I found Savanna House in Gilbert Arizona! My Mom has lived in both Assisted Living and is now in Memory Care at Savanna House. This community is so special and unique. It doesn’t feel like a large facility; it feels like my Mom lives in a neighborhood full of loving and caring people. They are truly angels on Earth. My Mom has special dietary needs that are very strict, and Savanna House has always accommodated her needs and the food is delicious as I have eaten there with Mom many times. The Activities Director, [name removed], does an amazing job at keeping the residents engaged and happy with many, many activities and outings which are so important to my Mom. [name removed], the Health Services Director, takes very special care with my Mom and her needs with dementia and chronic pain. Her staff of medical technicians are so loving and highly capable of attending to anything that arises and her daily needs. I am deeply grateful for how they take special care of my Mom. [name removed], the Executive Director, communicates with the friends and family of the residents on a frequent and consistent basis and is one of the nicest people I’ve met. It’s a big effort to run a large community like Savanna House and she does it with grace in my opinion. All the rest of the staff has this wonderful way of paying close attention to each resident and making them feel very loved and special, including me as my Mom’s caregiver! Moving a loved one to memory care is emotionally draining and a new process for me so I wanted to take a few minutes to express my gratitude to all the people at Savanna House from the bottom of my heart. I wish I could name all of them by name, but the review would get very long.

We were thrilled that A Place for Mom helped us find this community. They have been very responsive working with us through any issues or concerns. We are very happy with choice we made. I chose this community because when we walked in to the community there was just a feeling we got and it felt right. August 11, 2020Hello Dan! Thank you so much for your wonderful observations of our community! Feeling comfortable from the moment you walk through the door is exactly what we are aiming for! We take pride in having a fabulous and professional staff here at Savanna House. So glad your family is happy! Thank you for trusting us with the care of your Mother. We promise to continue to help her thrive everyday!
Because there's been so much management change, the environment has been very unstable. There is no consistency which is very disruptive for the residents and the staff. I chose this community because it really seemed like a good fit at the time. I am very grateful for the caregivers that are taking care of my loved.

Response from Savanna House
July 16, 2020Thank you for taking time to share this heartfelt review of Savanna House. For the past several months, as we’ve all managed the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been especially difficult on families not able to visit their loved ones. The limitations to visitations at senior living communities required by the Arizona Department of Health Services has also prevented many families from having the opportunity to meet and interact with our exceptional staff and team of caregivers. Finding the right management team is critical to the success of a senior living community, and it is imperative to have a cohesive staff that strives to not only meet, but exceed, the highest standards of care and compassion. This pandemic has given our team, which includes some wonderful new additions, the opportunity to come together and demonstrate our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our residents. We are extremely proud of our success to date in preventing COVID-19 from impacting our campus, and I invite our families and those considering Savanna House to contact us directly to ask any questions and let us share with you the steps we’re taking to prioritize resident safety while providing the most caring, engaging environment imaginable. We can’t wait for the time when we can reopen for visitations and give you the opportunity to meet the newest members of our team in person.
Savanna House is a very good place. The staff have always been friendly and courteous. My dad is always happy with his meals and the food there. I chose this community because they had availability, the location , and the good feeling we had when we toured the community.

September 25, 2020We understand that food is important and happy to hear that your dad is pleased with our culinary expertise. Our Chef Hector really takes pride in pleasing our residents. We are thankful that you selected us as your dads new home. Sincerely, Dawn
Savanna House has gone progressively downhill and never did get off the ground. The facility is beautiful and at a glance seems like a wonderful place. But it stops there. Food quality is very inconsistent and staff is defensive when you try to raise concerns. There are never enough caregivers and residents have waited as long as 40+ minutes at night to have their call button answered. Most of the caregivers who work there are very caring but over worked. If you want it items and furniture moved by housekeeping so they can thoroughly dust and vacuum, it’s extra charge and you need to submit a work order. Mold was discovered in multiple bathrooms. Housekeeping staff tries but are understaffed and can only spend @10 minutes per apartment once a week. Concerns have been taken to management in all areas but nothing gets addressed.

Response from Savanna House
July 16, 2020Thank you, Kay, for taking time to offer this review. When this was first posted back in January, our community had not welcomed in new leadership and there was certainly room for improvement in some key areas. The concerns you mentioned, from the quality of food to the level of care, were recognized and that is the reason for a new management team coming on board. I can assure you that with our current administrative and caregiver team, we are operating at a level that would make you proud. We have also made an effort to improve our communications with loved ones regarding the services offered at Savanna House, such as the timing and degree of cleanings for our Assisted Living residents. I am hoping you have found that the new management team has addresses your concerns promptly. We can’t wait for the time when we can reopen for visitations and give you the opportunity to meet the newest members of our team in person.
The staff was informative and friendly. The facility was a bit smaller and older than what we were looking for, but sorry to miss out on a great staff.

My loved one lives here currently. We’ve been hopeful for the community to get better and have been looking for a routine or a schedule to be followed. It seemed to be getting better at first, but now my loved one has gone a week without a shower and hasn’t had her laundry picked up or her bed sheets changed. I’m hoping it’s just because of the holidays but I think there’s a level of detail the community is missing. They’re supposed to be working together as a team but it seems like they have no system. Everything is done through spreadsheets and books. Her room aside, the cleanliness of the rest of the facility is good and housekeeping seems to be on top of their game. They’re always visibly cleaning and I think their routine is spot on. When it comes to the food, it’s really hit or miss. We’ve asked to be contacted about the different dietary needs that she has and they haven’t reached out to confirm them. We’re not expecting them to change the menu for her, but we’d like to at least know how she can go about ordering the foods that she can eat. Overall, it hasn’t been a horrible experience but it hasn’t been great either.

January 26, 2018Thank you for providing us with this valuable feedback. We would welcome the opportunity to have a discussion so that we can better understand and address the concerns. Please feel free to contact us by calling our direct line at [removed] and requesting Courtney Howard, Executive Director. Your feedback is important so that we can meet and exceed expectations.
We had visited this community and mostly was concern if they could care for my wife. We seen a lot of places and some were less expensive. I had a tour with them and learned that they could not handle my wife.

A Place for Mom has scored Savanna House 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
