There was confusion from the start regarding our loved ones medication - we had the head nurse speak to our loved ones cardiologist to straighten things out with a certain medication. The cardiologist said our loved one did not need to be on this medication anymore, and the head nurse assured our family everything was good and he had been taken off. We found out after a month that our loved one was still on the medication that had effected him in such a negative away. They had moved our loved one to memory care because they declined so far (even though our loved one had no previous dementia or Alzheimer's diagnosis). When we brought this to their attention, we received attitude. Our loved one was sent to the hospital with heart complications. After a few days of the medicine being out of their system, our loved one was heart rate was improving and the case was closed. We did not take our loved one back to Brookdale due to this mishap. It may be a bright and shiny and community but we had a terrible experience. Comparing assisted living and memory care to another - it looked like their memory care unit was an after through, it was dungy and dreary.

What really stood out to us about Brookdale Baywood is the friendliness of the staff and the way the treat our loved one and the other residents, and they have continued to be great all around. Every time we come to visit they have different activities going which has been great. Based on our experience with Brookdale Baywood we would recommend this community to other families.

This was an acceptable community. The community appeared short staffed and overworked.

We had an awesome tour experience with Brookdale Baywood. The gal who we were working with was fantastic. We probably would have chosen this facility if mom did not choose a different Brookdale location. This Brookdale had more than one level and mom said she would feel more comfortable being in a place that was all on one level that was a little smaller.
Brookdale Baywood is a nice place. I'm happy that my loved one is here. There have been a couple of bumps and they have been resolved. The day to day staff have been excellent to work with if we have questions or concerns. Laundry services, escorts to the dining room, Assistance button, medication management, housekeeping and the room are all included in the monthly fee.

We had a very good tour experience with Brookdale Baywood. The staff went above and beyond and gave us all the time that we needed to ask our questions we had and look around.
Wonderful community.
I would tell others to make sure to not bring really nice belongings such as towels because they will get mixed up and become community things. We have had some concerns with the quality of care and I have talked with the staff about these issues. The staff members are all very friendly and the facility itself is very clean.

January 14, 2022We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns and hope you will our Brookdale Resident and Family Connection team so we may have the opportunity to learn more about your concerns.
We had a really rough start. This goes for any place you choose - but I would say make sure you are on top of everything, from medication to knowing the complex, in order to help your loved one. Because they really dropped the ball on that for us the first few days. But then once they get going, it's been fabulous. I feel like the daily staff who work there are amazing. However the two people who do the pitch and the medical are not so great. But Mom loves the food, and they offer a lot of activities, although sometimes they get cancelled.

Our tour with Brookdale Daywood was great, it is a very nice facility. We were looking for something more independent for our loved one but this seems like a great place for assisted living.
I had a good tour with Brookdale Baywood. The only reason we did not choose this facility was because we did not meet any of the staff members. When you are choosing a place for your loved one, you want to feel comfortable with the people who were taking care of them and I just did not get a feel for them at all.
We toured with Brookdale and we felt that the facility was too big for the level of care that our loved one needed.
Beware of hidden fees. The day you sign the contract is the day you start paying, not the day you move in. Also, have a clear understanding of all the services they provide, when they provide them, and who to reach out to with questions or support needed or if there's an emergency. When my loved one needed help, most of the time the staff would not provide help because they said she wasn't paying for that help. But it was things like she fell and needed help up. I don't feel like you should have to pay someone to help you up if you fall. She would also push her button for help, and they wouldn't come. Then they would say she didn't press the button. So I'm not sure what was going on there. But it seems like the blame was always put back on her instead of trying to come up with a solution. The maintenance team was very friendly and responsive though. From what we saw of the common areas, everything looked pretty clean, no trash lying around, and it smelled fine. The apartments were a different story. They only cleaned her apartment one time in three months, but it was supposed to be cleaned once a week. Food was suffering as well from Covid. They were still doing meals in to-go containers, so by the time it got to her, it wasn't very good.

We did a virtual tour with Brookdale. It was very informative, but it was a recorded video tour so it did not feel personal at all and didn't make me feel like I would want to put my loved one here. Other places actually showed us around and we met staff member which made it feel more personable.

It was probably the worst experience we could of had, there was three different management changes in six months and every one of them made promises that they could never deliver. They were going to help us get our loved one moved onto Medicaid and that never happened. They let her run out of money and it was just a dump.

The facility worked really well with my mom and I. the room sizes are very, the food is good although my mom thinks it could be better. They are trying to offer a good variety even though the food in their rooms. I would recommend this facility to others.

It's been 2 years since my father was in Brookdale Baywood in their Memory Care unit. He was there 6 nights and only the first 3 nights was he given his "as needed" medication (and that is documented in his medication logs we were given). When his behavior declined, they dumped him in the ER saying he needed an inpatient psych evaluation. The psychiatric doctor and social worker at the hospital said that was nonsense and after conversing with the director, suggested my father would be better off in a different facility. We moved him but he died 3 days later. My BIGGEST REGRET is that we ever trusted Brookdale Baywood and their staff. They made my father's last days hell.
