Pros and cons

Overall we were pleased with the care that my mother received here. I gave numbers 3 and 4 lower due to the constant turnover of staff and lack of training. The facility is clean, never has an odor. Good activities are offered if the resident is able to partake. Seasoned staff aides are very thoughtful and well trained, (we thought quite highly of [name removed]) but new aides need much improvement with training. My mom was quite frail and was treated roughly by inexperienced staff. My dad stayed with her every single day from 8A-7P and witnessed this, many times he had to assist due to low staffing (he is 95). I was told that they had minimal turnover, not true. Overall, I believe she was comfortable during her stay.... Read more

Best of the Best

We began our search for the right memory care community for mom two years ago. We had her in two different, extremely highly recommended assisted living communities in the Lakewood Ranch area, that unfortunately couldn't hold up their end of the bargain. (NOTE: When looking for memory care, DO NOT go with an assisted living facility, all of the community resources and focus are NOT on your loved one in memory care, rather, on the majority of the residents who are located in independent or assisted living). Through a mutual friend, we found Morningside House (formerly Poet's Walk). We've been their for four months and I kick myself constantly for not finding this amazing team soon. From the move in process, everything was made easy to understand, there was no rush and we had the opportunity to meet the entire team before we actually moved mom in. Since the first day, this team has kept EVERY SINGLE PROMISE. We feel that we are finally a family again!

This is very helpfull and the stafe is 100 % so well trained

I want to say that this company is the best in care, communication, staff in leader ship and sales. I feel so grateful I moved my brother from 2 other companies. Because they do not have the care my brother is getting from day one. The engagement is wonderful they are the only companies that got it correct with my brother. Every one is so professional from dinning to floor staff. I can not get enough to say THANK YOU TO EVERY PERSON THAT WORKS FOR HELPING THE CARE FOR MY BROTHER.

Food was disgusting, sad

Nice facility however, the food at lunch was disgusting. I suppose the memory-care residents don't know the difference. The soup was watered down, the ham was gelatinous, the bread was half toasted and soggy. Even the lemonade was watered down. Only choice was the rubbery ham or turkey. My first visit. Maybe it wil be more palatable next time. I sure hope so. And, I did tell the staff.

Support, Compassion and Connection.

The transition into memory care for a loved one can be daunting, but the staff made it an incredibly supportive process. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we felt welcomed and reassured. Knowing that there are dedicated professionals on hand to provide assistance and specialized care whenever needed brought immense peace of mind. The staff has been incredibly responsive and proactive in addressing any concerns or questions we've had along the way. Their guidance and expertise in navigating the complexities of dementia and understanding how it impacts not only my mom but our entire family has been incredibly helpful. My mom (who has now lived there happily for over a year) was adjusting to the new activities and change in lifestyle from her independent living into this supportive community within months of moving in. I am incredibly grateful for the outstanding care and support my mom has received at Morningside. I wholeheartedly recommend Morningside House of Sarasota.

The food went through a short, bad period as the facility experienced staffing problems like everywhere else, but they have taken steps to get a new chef in and bring it up to par. Their Christmas dinner was beautifully presented, executed and delicious. These people really care about their mission and their methods for achieving it. It is the only facility I visited that did not feel separate and apart from the world or like a medical facility or lockdown ward. I would highly recommend the facility. No place is perfect -- this place only because they lost their adorable, front door mascot in Louie, a sweet Yorkshire Terrier, who took his job as Welcomer-In-Chief, last July. But this is the Executive Director and her peers' calling and they live to enrich the lives of people beleaguered by horrible brain diseases and make their lives richer and happier than merely existing and that makes all the difference.

Mom's Final Caring Community

A family friend had recommended Poet's Walk Sarasota because his mother had a peaceful, family-oriented experience recently for her final caring needs. I had visited his mother there and knew that this facility, staff, and care was over and above anywhere else I could place my mother for her final days. Poet's Walk Sarasota not only met my expectations but exceeded them as well, by not only taking amazing care of my mother but when the time came, they gently and with great patience and care guided me on how to handle her final wishes and passing. Cannot say enough about Poet's Walk Sarasota, especially [name removed], they not only took my mother in, they treated her like family and made her final days peaceful, happy, and dignified.

They are responsive to family involvement and it's important as someone transitions. Friendliness of staff. Try to individualize response to his needs. Need more activities especially ones that are physically oriented/ not just exercise activities. More one on one time.

Best care around

My wife has lived at Poet's Walk for 6 months now and as a family, we couldn't be happier with the care and love that surrounds her every single day. The culinary director is incredible that loves to create inspiring menu's that residents and their loved ones rave about daily. Engagement and entertainment are constant and are unique to each individual resident. I give Poet's Walk my highest recommendation for anyone looking for a community where dignity and care are at the forefront.

A Higher Standard

I began touring for my mom about 6 months ago. While I knew we had to find a community for her, my father was not so willing. It was a constant battle and took everything just to get him to consider taking a tour. Within 30 minutes of sitting down, my father went from an "absolutely not", to actually considering this as an option. He saw that this was, in fact, a "Community" rather than a "Facility". He saw women that reminded him of my mother, socializing, laughing and enjoying live entertainment provided by the community. We placed mom two weeks ago and so far, Poet's Walk has not only kept up their end of the bargain, they have far surpassed my expectations.

By far, best option around

Being in the healthcare industry here in Sarasota for over 15 years, I knew that when the time came to find a community for my sister, Poet's Walk was my only choice. I've been fortunate enough to witness firsthand so many success stories come out of this community so touring was a no brainer. While there is no "perfect" community, this doesn't keep this team from pursing that as their goal. Regardless of diagnosis or typical issues that come along with Alzheimer's/Dementia, this team's priority is always care and dignity first. I cannot recommend this community high enough and encourage any family considering finding that "wonderful community", to give them a call and book a tour!

A promise kept

Placing my wife into the care of a community was extremely hard for me to grapple with. Married for 60 years, my wife and I have held hands every single day. Before I signed any contracts, I toured several communities. During each tour, I insisted on meeting with the executive director and nursing director so I could look each one in the eye and get their word that they would do their best to care for this wonderful woman the way I do. There was something different when I visited with the leadership team at Poet's Walk. After careful consideration and long discussions with my family, we chose this community and have never looked back. This community has kept their word and delivered on every promise made. I couldn't be more thankful!

The ONLY option in Memory Care

Telling family and friends about my mother's community is a blessing. With so many senior living options in this area, it can be very difficult to navigate the waters. Some communities have beautiful chandeliers. Others have a pool or an amazing bar area for happy hour. That's wonderful and if my mother had the ability to appreciate those things, I'm sure that's what we would have looked for during our search. Instead, we searched for a community that had experienced management that hadn't just gotten their two months ago. A community that has not only consistent staff, but ones that had experience with memory care. A community that doesn't tell me what I want to hear, rather a community that has enough respect for me to always be completely transparent. A community that makes my family and friends always feel welcomed and on a first name basis. A community where my mother is treated with the dignity and respect that she most certainly deserves. We found that home in Poet's Walk.

A community that keeps their word

After keeping dad at home for as long as I could, I began my search for the right community in 2021. After going through three different communities in two years due to lack of staff, high manager turnover rates and residents who clearly weren't cared for (uncleanliness, same clothes day after day, unwashed hair, dirty fingernails), I figured that there wasn't a community that could meet my standards. Enter Poet's Walk. Since the day I first toured, they have kept their word on every promise. Consistent staffing, consistent engagement tailored to my dad, excursions, award winning meals and most importantly...COMMUNICATION!! Poet's Walk truly answered every prayer.

Poet’s Walk provides exceptional specialized care for patients suffering from dementia and diseases like Parkinson’s. My Dad who was prone to falling had been in other facilities that were not able to prevent him from falling resulting in multiple hospitalizations due to injuries. At Poet’s Walk, my Dad had zero hospitalizations due to falling. The care was great, the facility is spacious and elegant, the nurses and staff are amazing. I highly recommend Poet’s Walk!

Finally back to being a wife

I've had my husband home with me for the past two and a half years since his diagnosis of Parkinsons. I never believed I would be able to find a community that meets his needs as well as my expectations. I was wrong. Poet's Walk creates purpose for my husband every day. Whether it's a morning "golf tournament", building things with real tools alongside other new friends of his that he's met through the communities "man cave monday" group or watching his favorite college team play with the same group, every day is a new adventure. To top it all off, he gets his favorite midnight snack every day, something that may seem trivial, but is super important. In the eyes of the administration at Poet's Walk, there are no small details!

Not Recommended

I do not recommend Poet’s Walk. I moved my husband from Poet’s Walk after 27 days of residency. Prior to moving in, my husband attended adult day care and was active for seven hours on those days. After three weeks at Poet’s Walk he was lethargic, not able to stay awake for more than an hour at a time; he was noticeably less verbal; and considerably physically weaker. He appeared disheveled and unkempt. When I tried to address the issues with the front office staff they were defensive and condescending; minimized situations, or lied to me. The Director said she was interested in talking to me after I left, but she never followed through. I have contacted the corporate office, but I have not heard from them either. Clearly, they did not care. It’s also notable that this is one of the most expensive facilities in the area.
