Kind, Caring, and Communicative: Heron House Helped My 96 Year Old Dad Have Wonderful Final Days

Please note my father passed away about 3 months after living there, and the staff got him into a great wound care place because the rehab he came out of right before moving there were awful and released him with real bad abrasions. This probably gave him the 3 months and gave me a chance to see him before he passed away. Your staff there was wonderful and he did have a wonderful few months there but at age 96 it was his time.... Read more

Happy with our selection

The property is a little outdated. I had some issues with the sales process but it worked out in the end. I would recommend Heron House to other families looking.

Nice, friendly and accommodating community.

Heron House is flexible in accommodation and will work with you. The staffs, most of them are wonderful and caring but some are not. Improvements: let the bad staffs go and get rid of all carpeting. The assisted living is good. The memory care could use some staff improvement.

Warm friendly staff!

When I went to visit my grandma I was pleasantly surprised! Nursing homes are not always a fun place to be! All the resident's were happily playing games and listening to music upon entering and all seemed to be good friends. My grandmas room was comfortable and homey and the staff was very friendly! I felt comfortable going back home out of state. The director of nursing was compassionate and you could tell she had a good relationship with all the resident’s, it was nice seeing them all be so comfortable with her and sneak in her office for snacks!

Review for Heron House

I highly value my husband's nearly 2 year residency at Heron House. It has been a facility that has given him encouragement and support when he has needed it. I have never doubted the quality of his care. The most important thing I would tell someone about HH is that it has been a SAFE place for [name removed] (Alzheimer's dementia Memory Care). I am grateful A Place for Mom was the guiding hand when I needed it.

Heron House Is Home

We had to move my 92 year old mother into Heron House as caring for her became just too much for me and my family as much as we tried to keep her at home. It was one of the hardest decisions my family and I had to make in our lives. After feeling guilty at first, we realize it was the best thing we could have done for her and for us. She is more active and feels a sense of purpose while having an amazing care staff to look after her, giving us the peace of mind we need. We come and go as we please to visit and to our surprise, when we invite her out she politely has declined because she has settled in so well. Thank you the the Heron House Care Team! Truly the best!

Our families experience

So they said she would be assigned someone who would pop in frequently and see how she was doing and remind re: activities and that didn't happen so she basically only had interaction at meals as she never knew activities were happening.

Heron House Sarasota a Wonderful Place for Loved Ones

Heron House Sarasota has turned out to be a wonderful home for our mom! We were hesitant like many family members are, to place mom in assisted living. but it was truly the best decision we made! Mom has resided at Heron House Sarasota for 1 1/2 years, and we are constantly impressed at how caring the staff is, the perfect living conditions and so many different activities offered for the various levels of individuals that reside there! Under the direction of the current Executive Director ([name removed]) who is extremely caring and efficient, we have received nothing but prompt care & assistance from every employee we deal with. Naming just a few, the Director of Resident Services ([name removed]), Director of Activities ([name removed]), Nurse/Medical Administrator ([name removed]), Front Desk Coordinator ([name removed]), etc. are all wonderful! Seriously consider Heron House Sarasota for your loved ones!

Helpful Access to Local Resources

The community was clean, friendly, and helpful for our loved one that was here. The residents were friendly. They provided meals and activities to engage with and be able to socialize with others. This is a community I would recommend you look into for your loved ones and see if it would be a good fit.

Nice Community

Heron House has been phenomenal in everything from the very first day. They helped make the transition seamless, we can visit anytime. Her room is plenty large enough for her things to fit. They keep in contact on things so we're aware, and the community is friendly and positive.

Good Experience

The staff at Heron House are comforting, supportive, and encouraging. It's reasonably priced. The location is conveniently close to where I live, which makes it easier to come and visit. I didn't realize how important that factor was until we were already established there. [name removed] is an excellent executive director. She is a tireless, caring worker. I would encourage anyone to at least give Heron House consideration.

This facility is amazing! I chose it primarily for the value and location. I've been very impressed with all aspects of the place. The campus is beautiful, always clean and non odorous. They do housekeeping and laundry weekly. Never any mix ups or issues. The rooms are all lovely and do not remind one of a prison cell or dorm room. I can and have recommended this facility to others.

You were all great there. [name removed] was incredible. I just flew down from New York yesterday to see my dad at Heron House. I got to see him for 90 minutes and then put him to bed. A few hours later he passed away. I don't know how much time to talk but I will say I would not have been able to get him into Heron house or see all the other options available without [name removed] help and I am very grateful to her and you all for that.

Tour experience

The tour we had with Heron House was fine - the gal who showed us around was very cordial and was great with her follow up after. The reason we did not choose this facility was because it reminded me of a nursing home and had more of that institutional feeling to it.

Highly recommend this community for your family member

Heron House is a wonderful community. The staff were super accommodating and everyone said hello when we walked down the hallways during our tour. It is clean, well maintained, the staff are friendly, and the sales team is very professional, patient and understanding. I cannot say enough good things about them. I give them gold stars all the way around.

A Place for Mom has scored Heron House 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
