Please note my father passed away about 3 months after living there, and the staff got him into a great wound care place because the rehab he came out of right before moving there were awful and released him with real bad abrasions. This probably gave him the 3 months and gave me a chance to see him before he passed away. Your staff there was wonderful and he did have a wonderful few months there but at age 96 it was his time.... Read more

We moved our mom to Heron House this past year. This has been the best decision for her. We could not be more happy with her care. All her health needs are met. It is a joy to see her engaging with other residents. The staff are very warm, and genuinely show they care. Thank you for loving my mom! Seeing her so happy, and cared for means everything to us.

It is a nice place to live. The staff are compassionate and friendly. Some of the activities available include bingo, games, movement activities, and more for the residents to choose from to participate in.

I am a 73 yr old retired RN. I was hesitant to have an assisted living from being totally independent. From the day I moved in continuing until today, I have loved being here. The staff has been open friendly and goes out of their way to be helpful. I could recommend Heron House highly to anyone cooking at an assisted living residence.
I originally chose this assisted living facility for my mother based on expediency and location. The admissions staff worked late into the evening to assure everything was attended to, prior to my mothers discharge from the hospital (less than 24 hours notice!) Once here I can only say that the resident seem happy and delighted by the activities available, and a staff which responds in a timely basis to any concern. My mother is comfortable and well cared for at this facility.
My Mom recently moved to Heron, after an injury determined she was no longer able to live alone. It was a worrisome process to find an Assisted Living facility that would meet our expectations: that Mom is well taken care of (Physically & Mentally), she is comfortable in her new surrounding and the facility is maintained clean. All our expectations have been met to date! She it cared for properly and as described she would be. It's a relief to know that now, Mom has her medications administered timely and she receives 3 square meals a day! There are continual daily activities and Mom is participating and socializing more now, than in years! Most important is the Staff at HH Sarasota, whom I feel all work very hard. Separately, I applaud Suzanne Leslie (Manager at Heron) who was extremely helpful in explaining guidelines to us, prior to Mom moving. She has gone out of her way to ensure Mom's needs, and our expectations, are continually met!

I did not like this community at all. It looked like a nursing home and we were looking for more of assisted living.
Response from Heron House
October 5, 2021Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Assisted living in our community should not have felt like a nursing home and shouldn't be portrayed that way. If you will, please call (877) 212-4126 as we would love the opportunity to discuss your experience with us. Your input can greatly help us be a better assisted living community
They provided a great welcome. Our family member is happy there. All the residents seem nice and friendly. The staff are very caring, always smiling and friendly, and they take great care of him. They handle his medications well. He likes the food, which they're very prompt in serving. There's a lot of it, and a lot of options. They also offer plenty of activities. We have no complaints.

It served our needs for my loved one. The stay for my loved one was during the pandemic. I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The staff was very nice and was able to get ahold of about my loved one during our stay.

Heron House looked very nice and the tour was excellent. They had a fast response time and were accommodating with setting up a virtual tour. They were not pushy and I really appreciated that. It just came down to location, I needed her closer to me.
I would recommend to others placing their family here. I liked the friendliness and the room size. My loved one enjoyed the food. She just ended up needing more help than they were able to provide. There was an aide who helped us tremendously in the move-out process. He broke down the bed, and we were ale to move everything out in record time and get her transferred her to a different place.

We thought Heron House was excellent. It was very clean, and I liked the activity room. The girl who took us around was super nice, and I could tell she knew people’s names. They were saying hi back to her, and you could tell she had some involvement and didn’t just sit in the office. She was peppy and seemed to enjoy her job. The rooms and the grounds were nice. When we brought up our loved one's pet, they were genuinely open and enthusiastic. We really liked it here, but the price was steeper, and if our loved one ever needs to convert to Medicaid, they don’t take Medicaid.
The staff members and their care services are really good there, and we do not know much feedback about the food but we do know she is eating well. Our loved one seems to be doing very well there, and is having fun. The value for cost is very good.

We chose Heron House because it was perfect location to family, the price was decent for what you were getting, and it just seemed like a nice place and everything is on one floor. The rooms here are very nice, my mom has a larger one and it is great. My mom complains a lot about the food, they could use more variety on the menu and they do not cater much to her diet. I also think they could clean up her room a little better and make sure that she changes her clothing and showers more often. Overall I would recommend them to others who are looking.

We chose Heron House at the time because I live out of town and we needed a place quickly. With covid, it was the best choice that we had at the moment. They have not been very good with communication at all. I would really appreciate it if when they made their deductions if I was notified. It would be a little more professional I think. They do have some key staff members here that have been better than most and they will facetime me with my mom due to the covid situation, so they definitely have some good members. I would recommend for short term stays.

Heron House was very clean. They did a great job at keeping their residents safe during the pandemic. We chose this facility in the beginning based on the location and a recommendation from a friend who had a good experience here. One issue we had with Heron House was that they are limited with their care, they were only able to provide a fixed level of care. When he needed more, he would have to move out of the facility which caused issues.

They are wonderful but they have struggled with staff turn over. It is hard to get good night staff. It is cost-effective. The laundry service has improved. The food is not good, it needs improvement. It is unappealing and unappetizing. They have done a good job with Covid-19 keeping residents safe.

[Name removed] was wonderful; she showed us around, introduced us to some staff and explained their on-boarding process as well as details of daily life. Things are quite different with COVID, but we are hopeful life will go back to normal soon.

A Place for Mom has scored Heron House 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
