We've had a few minor issues. I do think they need to hire more maintenance help. They have just one person, and requests can take a while to get to. Also, on the weekends there is not as much staff as during the week. But I think places are short-handed everywhere. For the most part, the staff is friendly and cooperative. They try to work with you and work out any issues. The main thing is if they're friendly to your loved one. I think they are for the most part. My loved one complains the food is not hot when it gets to her. When I've eaten with her a couple of times, I think it's been fine. She's been pretty satisfied with the activities. I think it's a good place to take your loved ones overall.

Response from Morningside in the West End
April 22, 2022Thanks for sharing your feelings. I am the Executive Director and was glad to read your feedback on how friendly, caring, and cooperative our team has been. When you have a few minutes I would welcome the chance to talk with you to make sure your maintenance requests have been taken care of, and to hear more about your loved one's feedback on our meal service. Please contact me at your convenience at the community.
They were very friendly and helpful at this community. This community is a bit older and just felt a little dark and enclosed. It was just not the right feeling that we were looking for.

March 18, 2022M.S, thanks for visiting with us. We're glad to read that you were impressed by the team at Morningside. While our community may be a bit more established, our resident's love to relax in our beautifully appointed outdoor spaces, enjoy a meal in our lovely dining room, or gather socially in our spacious lobby. More importantly we have vibrant, young-at-heart residents and dynamic team members. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance as you explore senior living options.
We had a virtual tour with Morningside. They did a great job of showing us around the layout of the facility and amenities offered. It was just way too pricey for us.

November 8, 2021Thank you for taking the time to explore our community. I am the Executive Director and recommend you come and visit us personally so you can experience first hand the amazing vibe at our community. While here we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your concerns about cost as we offer a wide variety of floor plans that accommodate personal preferences and budgets. We are committed to working closely with residents to help them identify the best possible options for their needs. Please contact us at the community at your earliest convenience if we can be of assistance.
It looks clean except for the hallways. I would recommend families come and visit often. They treat the patients good, but the care is not very good. They're short-staffed and don't have enough staff to provide the services they say they do. The staff are nice and friendly, but overworked. It's hard to take care of that many people when you don't have the staff to do it. Sometimes the food is pretty good, but sometimes it's really spicy, which can be hard for my loved one to eat. I feel like we got in at at good rate, but we're not getting the services we paid for. And it's an older building with scarce electrical plug-ins, maybe 10-12 ft apart. They're supposed to turn her in bed every 2 hours, and they don't.

Response from Morningside in the West End
October 20, 2021Hi Gary. I am the Executive Director and would like to have a discussion with you about your concerns. In particular we can review your loved one's care plan to make sure we are meeting your expectations, and can also discuss our menu options to ensure she is choosing options that appeal to her palette. Please let me know a time that would be convenient for you so we can have a conversation. My goal is for you and your loved one to have a Five Star experience everyday!
Our loved one was only there for about a month, and due to their health they were not really able to participate in the activities and they also weren't the biggest fan of the food. The care services would be a 10 star and we would recommend to others.

Response from Morningside in the West End
September 30, 2021Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your recommendation -- and your desire to give us 10 stars for the care our team provided to your loved one!
We came here based on a referral from our friend who is a massage therapist. She had been working on a resident in the community and overheard a staff member talking in such a gentle voice to a resident with dementia. That staff member had no idea our friend was even there, so she was that gentle and kind to the residents even when nobody was looking. Our loved one seems to be very happy here. I like that it's spotless. I couldn't even find dust in the corners, so I was impressed. Outside, the garden area always looks so nice and neat, and the windows look clean. The hallways, the elevator - everything looks so nice. Everybody I've talked to has been very nice and sweet to work with. Even the residents have been nice and helpful. The care has been great so far from what I've seen. The staff will work with our loved one, even when she's cranky and doesn't want to be worked with. I haven't tried the food, but I saw her lunch one day. It was a fried chicken sandwich that looked pretty good, and some sweet potato fries, and she was really happy with that. She says the chef is unbelievable. Sometimes she complains though that there are a few things she can't eat. One strange thing is she swears up and down they never gave her keys to her room. So she's been reluctant to leave her room without being able to lock it up. But she does have dementia, so it's possible she might have forgotten. I just need to ask the staff about it. I know she's been excited to get her hair done with the beautician who's there on-site one day a week. She hasn't really participated in the activities yet, but there's a nice garden area where I've seen a group of ladies talking and enjoying themselves. They have art classes and I'm sure plenty of other things.

Response from Morningside in the West End
July 7, 2021Thank you for such a lovely review Cheri. We are glad to hear that the kindness of our team members made an impression first on your friend -- and continue to make an impression on you as you see them in action working with your loved one. Our housekeeping and maintenance teams will certainly enjoy reading your feedback on how beautiful they keep the community looking, and our dining team will equally love your feedback on the food. It is great to read that your loved one is looking forward to her trip to our salon, and we hope she jumps into some of the many programs we offer. We're honored you chose Morningside in the West End!
I shopped around a lot before choosing this community. This is convenient to be able to see my loved one. My initial contact was pleasant. Morningside is clean and well kept. The communication has been good with the nurses, and they tried to find answers and get back to me about any questions or concerns I have about my loved one.

Response from Morningside in the West End
March 16, 2021Mark, thanks for your feedback -- and your 5-star rating. We're honored that after looking at many other communities in the area you chose Morningside for your mother. It is heartening to know that your initial impression was excellent, and that has carried through to all your interactions. We were especially glad to know you've found the communication with the nursing team to be great, as we know how important that is.
We chose Morningside in the West End because after interviewing 5 or 6, the staff here were ready to get the ball rolling. We did a virtual tour and they seemed more organized than the others as well. This facility is only 2 floors, so we felt it was a better fit for our loved one and not as big. The location also worked well for our family. The room sizes here are adequate for our loved ones needs. They have been pretty good with communication with us since not being able to go inside the facility. They have been very accommodating and have put us in touch with different military organizations to help subsidize the payments and wave some incoming fees. I would recommend them to others looking.

Response from Morningside in the West End
March 11, 2021Thanks for your review Eric. We're glad to read that we were able to quickly show you the community and get you in touch with some veterans organizations. It is good to see that the apartments are perfect for your loved one, and the location is perfect for your family. It was also good to see that the communication was excellent as we know that's important, particularly when you are doing things remotely. Thanks for the recommendation and we're thrilled to welcome your loved one to our family.
[name removed] has been great to work with. Caring, empathetic and realistic compared to 2 of the past establishments my father has lived - Heritage Green & Sunrise of Richmond. Neither place was willing to understand nor work with the genesis behind some of my father's behaviors. [name removed] and the team at Morningside made the evaluation process simple and we're excited to have him there with the family.

February 23, 2021Thank you for the feedback. We're glad to hear our team made the evaluation process easy, and that we've been able to give your father a new home where he -- and you -- feel comfortable. We pride ourselves on the care and compassion we provide our residents and it was nice to hear that you see those traits in the team at our community. We're honored that you chose Morningside in the West End for your father's new home.
Good place for my mother; I enjoyed the place while my mother was a resident there, she was given all the care and attention she needed. The nursing staff is outstanding. Thank you very much for taking good care of my mother.

Morningside has a professional team of caring, skilled and well trained staff. Since transferring my Aunt to this facility from another west end memory care unit, her mental and physical state have greatly improved. She is now treated with respect, compassion and sincere concern for her well being. From the extremely clean and fresh smelling facilities to the delicious restaurant style dining and fun resident activities, this facility surpasses expectations and truly stands out as an exceptional elder care facility. I would highly recommend Morningside to anyone seeking an Assisted Living or memory care facility.

I am very happy with the care that my loved one has received. The staff is attentive, friendly and caring. They keep you active and engaged. It is great knowing that my loved one can age in place there. They have a BEAUTIFUL enclosed courtyard that gives it a park like setting. I would recommend Morningside to EVERYONE!!!

The place is clean; the people are friendly. My mother would ring her bell for help. It sometimes took up to 30 minutes for an aide to arrive. That is a really long time to wait for help getting to and from the bathroom. If she requested pain medicine, often it took another 30 minutes before the nurse arrived with her medication. Unfortunately, you are required to sign an agreement which forces you to pay an additional 30 days' rent AFTER your loved one has passed on. My mother was there for 40 days. The fees came to over $12,000 for a Studio Room. When you try to talk to someone at the facility about the ethics of charging the grieving family for a room that their loved one can no longer inhabit, they blame the home office. If you call the home office, no one answers their phone and no one returns a phone call. This is not a company worthy of your loved ones' care or your money.

I toured this community. The community was small and the rooms seemed like a study and not a bigger room. I wanted a community that had more of an apartment feeling, The community was nice and clean, but not what I was looking for. I would recommend that families tour this community for the care of a loved one

I was happy with the tour here, but due to needing to use a motorized chair this community would not fit our needs. The staff was friendly and caring. It was clean and well taken care of. I would recommend this community for good care.

I took a tour for a respite stay but also wanted to gather information for the future. They did a good job with the tour and gave me a lot of valuable feedback. I really liked that it is located across from my work. I did not use the community because they were unable to confirm availability.

This is another community that I liked but the memory care was on the second floor. They did have a beautiful garden/courtyard but my mom would not be able to use it. This is not an enclosed yard. They had a deck off the kitchen area with bars to enclose the back, I did not like that. They did not have any availability here and it seemed as if the tour guide went through the motion of the tour, not engaged with me.

The food is not good at Morningside in the West End. A chef cooks it but its almost too extravagant. The residents would appreciate more basic food I think. It's been an okay experience. It is hard in any situation like this though.

This is a top-notch facility, with top-notch employees. It is obvious that extra effort is given to hiring only the most caring and competent staff. Everyone's attitude is to give the best service to the residents and their families. I encountered no instances of "attitude" problems at all. Care givers in the Bridge to Recovery Program are remarkably patient, and understanding of the very specialized care needed for dementia patients. My mother was so blessed to live here, and I was very blessed to be a part of the "family" there.
