I feel like this is a hard thing to answer because everyone is going to have complaints, but I feel like there's kind of a plateau in the industry standard where anywhere within a certain price point would have the same issues. So my ratings might seem a little bit high because I'm taking that into account I think. With the care services - they seem understaffed and sometimes it takes a really long time for them to respond even if she's calling because she fell down or something. Our loved one would rate the meals and dining a 1, think anybody gets tired of eating the same stuff all the time. The value for cost is hard one because all these things seem expensive but I'm going to say three or four because again I think everything similar is the same price point... Read more

November 5, 2024Hi Rick, thank you for your kind words! We’re so glad to hear that your mother is receiving friendly, attentive care from our staff. It’s our privilege to support her, and we’re here to make her experience as positive as possible!
I wouldn't recommend it right now. I think they are trying to improve, but they have a long way to go. We picked this community because of the location/convenience. "Offered" a lot of what we were looking for.

November 5, 2024Hello, thank you for the feedback! We would appreciate it if you could email us more details at info@myvitalityliving.com so we can address any concerns you may have.
I never do reviews but my conscience won’t let me remain silent. Take a DEEP look when you tour, especially in memory care. Look at the dining room floor, inspect the furniture. Ask if staff is in dining room when eating (no). Where’s the cleaning crew? (they walked out). Check for bruises, bored residents & safety. How many falls are there each week? Ask how residents communicate when they need help, especially when hurt or late at night. Dig deep into lack of staffing & unfilled positions. Take an especially HARD look at the revolving door of management. There are a few wonderful, caring attendants but it is NOT enough. Wake up corporate!

August 21, 2024Hello, we greatly appreciate your feedback and for taking the time to leave us a review. Thank you!
The management team and staff really care about the residents but their processes let them down. My Mom was comfortable there but largely because my sister and I were with her for a good part of every day. There is a significant issue with their call bell system which leaves people who need assistance without it. Like all healthcare facilities they seem understaffed which often meant significant delays in delivery of meds. Overall the people were nice and capable but a lot of time they were at the mercy of bad processes and staffing gaps.

The caregivers are gentle with the residents. They seem to genuinely care about the elderly people they look after and aren't just putting in time to get a paycheck. We were apprehensive about putting my father-in-law in a care facility. You hear so many horror stories about elder abuse. From the moment we met with Ms. Dauna to take a tour, I knew this was the right place. She answered all of our questions, arranged another tour for the other sons, and, when we moved him in, made sure to let me know that he was all settled in & doing well. The care team takes very good care of him. He eats well. He's clean. His room & laundry are clean. They let us know when he is running low on personal care items so we can replenish before he runs out. He's had a couple of falls (mobility issues) and the staff was on the phone with us as the ambulance was taking him out. The staff is always cheerful and pleasant, even when you know their nerves are being plucked. I have every confidence that my FIL is in good hands.

April 26, 2024Hi Rebecca, we know that moving to a senior community can be a challenging process, and it makes us happy to hear of great experiences like this! We strive to provide exceptional care to not just our residents but their families as well. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us this detailed five-star review.
My loved one is currently a resident at Vitality Living West End Richmond and most everything has been great so far! The location is easy and accessible. Close to 64, right off of the highway. The staff is friendly, attentive and respectful. Communication with the family is good, but it goes both ways. The administration is easy to reach and listens to concerns. The move in was quite easy! The food is better than most places that I have experienced. I would highly recommend this facility to others.

March 26, 2024Hi Elsa, it makes us happy to hear this! We greatly appreciate the five-star review.
Our experience has been great so far. My husband and I initially toured with Ms. Dawna and were impressed with the facility. We toured again about 4 months later with both of his brothers and 1 sister-in-law and everyone was pleased. Once the decision was made that it was time, Dawna came to the house to get the ball rolling and within 8 days, I believe, my husband's dad was settled in at Vitality Living. We were especially touched when she caught us in the parking lot that day to reassure us that our family member would be fine. And he is. He seems to be eating better. He's more active. Staff has welcomed our calls and visits. Every time we've popped in with no warning, the facility is clean and smells fresh, and the residents appear clean and tended to.

They did not do enough activity for physical activity in the memory care center ! They should have daily walks for those interested and on days they can't walk there should be stretching exercises and some form of silver sneakers exercising being taught and encouraged to be done. Also there was a financial mistake made on their part that got my moms money caught up in a mess with her bank Tylenol not offered for discomfort without doctor note even though we gave permission for it to be dispensed.

Overall I am happy with Vitality. They are short staffed right now and residents are upset over some services that have been curbed or stopped. They are trying to do what they can with the staff they have. My mother in law can be difficult to deal with and we are on them constantly about making sure her care plan is being adhered to. She needs to be made to take showers and change her clothes.

My mother chose Vitality Living West End Richmond mainly because she really likes this part of town and wanted to live here. When she went to tour she was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility. At that time the food seemed to be very good too, but since she has moved it is has gone downhill. The turnover seems to be pretty high, but I know that is true of everywhere right now. She seems to be satisfied and we are extremely satisfied with the way they manage medications. I would recommend Vitality to others.

This facility does a good job overall. The care staff could be better, but is ok. I'm disappointed with the quality of care from the in house Dr. Dad's visit was short and minimal and the Dr seems very unprofessional. It was done outside and around other residents. There was no physical exam or detail, just a few questions and vitals. I ended up making him an outside appointment, which is coming up. I also don't care for the charge nurse, I don't get feedback or answers from her. The food is good, they have a daily menu. But sometimes they change it without notice. We were told that the doors get locked at a certain time, as far as locked for the day for residents and their outside time. Sometimes they close them early/make residents come in early, which dad really dislikes. They do seem generally understaffed and I think locking the doors early might be because of that also. The activities director tries really hard to engage the residents and to have activities that everybody can enjoy. We sometimes have to remind them to do laundry and bedding. Laundry also disappears sometimes. I would probably recommend them to friends and family, but would make sure they were aware of the issues I've mentioned.

I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The friendliness of the staff and residents stands out to me, and made it feel very welcoming during the tour and having my loved one in the community. There can be times the response to the call button requests can be slow, and I think this might be due to staffing shortages, like they have everywhere. The community has been good in making sure that all the medications are given on time to the residents. The community always has some type of activity for the residents to participate in.

I was not impressed with the community due to the apartment sizes being smaller. There was an odor and it wasn't as clean as I had anticipated. The community was also too far from family for our loved one.

I am very happy with the memory care unit at this community and the staff that work in the memory care unit. They take great care of my loved one. They have activities like arts and crafts, bingo, painting, games, movies and more for the residents to do. They even have work out classes for the residents. It's great and everything went well with it.

March 14, 2022Hi, we know that making a move to a senior community can be a difficult process and it makes us all so happy to hear of great experiences like this. Thank you for your feedback!
We really liked Vitality Living, but it was a bit pricier than we were wanting. When they followed up after the tour we told them we had chosen another facility that was a little less expensive and they said they could have come down on price. I wish that was discussed during the initial tour because this would have been our first choice.
