What we like the most about the MorningStar Assisted Living community is the cleanliness of the community as well as the friendliness of the staff. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would maybe recommend them to other families. My wife and daughter at different times found their mother/grandmother on the floor in her apartment. Although staff was very friendly and I believe, competent, it seemed staffing levels at time may have been below what was necessary.... Read more

Response from MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care of Albuquerque
May 20, 2019It is our joy to serve those who first served us, the-trail blazing generations that have gone before us to show us the way.
We have been a part of several communities in our area, but the sense of family, the access to the staff and the stellar care Dad has received is unparalleled with our MorningStar experience. Thank you so much to the staff of MorningStar! We feel confident that Dad is in the best hands possible. We appreciate you all!

Both my parents have dementia and moved into the memory care section. Things were so bad, I had to move my parents out after just short of two months of living there. The afternoon/evening memory care staff is lacking in training and in being able to be responsible and follow a simple schedule. My father needs to have his catheter emptied of urine every three to four hours by a caregiver due to his having dementia. On several occasions, the evening staff would forget to do this, and while my father was sleepy/tired and wanting to get into bed, he himself would disconnect the leg bag from the catheter himself, causing urine to get all over his mattress. On a couple of occasions, I had to call to remind the staff that his leg bag needed to be drained, and to get him ready to go to bed. There were other problems, but one that should be mentioned is the gentleman who was the medications tech. One evening just before dinner, and with my brother present, while he was taking my father's blood sugar reading, he wiped off the blood from my father's finger with his own bare finger, thus causing cross contamination. This guy would never wear gloves. One time, when I asked why he didn't wear gloves while doing the blood sugar monitoring, he answered with, "If I'm in a rush, I don't wear gloves." Can you believe it. Many of the discrepancies were reported to the Director of Nursing (who in my opinion was not at all qualified for this position) and she never corrected anything. She would just make promises. The Executive Director also didn't make any improvements, and sometimes would not even respond to my emails. The list of things goes on and on, and like I mentioned at the beginning, my parents were living there just short of two months.

Response from MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care of Albuquerque
May 15, 2019We are so sorry that your exposure to the MorningStar culture was anything other than what it is designed to be: a place of grace. Our website aptly describes the high calling we feel to serve, and the aspirations we reach for every day, not flawlessly, but sincerely and diligently. Our growth as a company is reflective of the foundational strength of our mission and core values. And our local adherence to these brand principles have earned MorningStar of Albuquerque a solid reputation with families and professionals, who testify to our community’s compassion. We are known as much for our ability to cater to individual needs as to love well. As to staff training, we are confident in its thorough coverage of major aspects of senior health, particularly dementia care. Our continuing education centers on specific topics, including catheter care. Hard as we work to serve all beneath our roof, it’s true that we are not an ideal fit for every family. We had hoped MorningStar could be that for your family, and believed we were addressing your concerns as they arose. Still, we receive your candor as an opportunity to improve for we view our relationships with seniors (and their families) as a sacred trust. Wishing you and your parents the very best.
Beautiful community! Very clean and great customer service right when you walk in the building. You can just feel the warmth of the staff and residents when you walk in and tour by all their smiling faces. I was very impressed by their state survey results as well! More than just a beautiful building.

MorningStar has a really good reputation in the Albuquerque Senior Living community. I have heard that it is a great place to work, where the employees feel valued and have even tried to come back after leaving for one reason or another. The residents also seem so happy when I've stopped by to visit. They look well cared for and engaged.

One of the most difficult things was the decision to put my granddad in a community. After having two sub-par experiences at previous senior livings, I was very weary. However, MorningStar was different. The quality of care, the people and the beautiful atmosphere blows me away every day. Through MorningStar my family grew, and I and my beloved grandfather found a new home. I am so grateful and blessed for MorningStar. They have been a light for our family in this very arduous and emotional journey.
