I have not visited this community since I live out of town but feedback from my family -it seems like our loved one is really enjoying it there. They have a bus driver to take the residents to and from places so he enjoys the independence of it. The food is great, there are plenty of different choices and meal options. He really enjoys the social aspect of it.
Read MoreI have already referred friends to this community for their loved ones. The value is good. The staff seem to be pretty friendly. The overall experience has been good for us. The staff communication with the family has been okay. They were short staffed when my loved one first moved in; however, they are making progress on the staffing for the community. The meals have been okay. There are three meals a day served to the residents.

Overall everything has been good. If I had additional family members in need of senior living, I would recommend Marian Oakland for the cost. The room is a little small, although probably on par with other places. It can be a long trek to get to the dining room in the winter, but they do shovel the walkways. It looks like they have great activities.

Marian Oakland was love at first sight for me! And it’s been a love affair ever since. The setting is quiet and beautiful. I love the ranch style facility. There are no stairs to maneuver in the event of an emergency for us seniors. And in my case a young senior, who moved in at age 57. The dining room has top quality chefs preparing top quality balanced meals. We enjoy our choice of three community rooms with large screen televisions. We also have a computer room, laundry rooms and a beauty salon. If you’re looking for the smoking room, it doesn’t exist on this smoke free campus. I would say I’m sorry, but I’m a nonsmoker! I enjoy the comfort of my apartment. And as quiet as it is kept, each apartment has a refrigerator, cable television hookup, and oh yes, heat and air conditioning. The staff is a phenomenal group of people. They are always there to answer questions, assist with needs and to brighten your day with conversation, a smile, or even a hug. To date, not one staff member has taken off running and screaming from me, and I’ve given them plenty of reasons to! Yes I am a resident at Marian Oakland, but please don’t let that deter you. The residents are a diverse group and some of the nicest, sociable people you’ll ever meet! Some of my best moments are sharing life experiences with fellow residents. We enjoy each other’s company whether over a meal, relaxing in the community room, the pavilion or the courtyard; and also during our outings. I can go on-and-on, but it would be best to visit our independent living facility and take in our friendly atmosphere yourself. Who knows you might run into me, and we can brighten each other’s day.

This facility has been a Godsend to our family. My father is in a clean, well run place with lots of help and affordable prices. We appreciate the staff more than they could ever know, and the quiet safety of this home is just what we needed.

Nice place to live. The staff is wonderful, very caring and could not be nicer to the residents. The residents are all very nice and get along with each other. The food is surprisingly good and the kitchen staff really cares what the residents think. The home schedules weekly shopping trips as well as other fun-filled field trips. They have their own bus to transport residents on trips. The common rooms are always nicely decorated and the grounds are well kept

I was a little disappointed in this community, on the first floor it felt very depressing and needed lots of updating. There was little to no natural light throughout the building and all of the bedrooms including the lobby looked like it needed some serious updating. I would not have wanted my mother to live in a facility like this.

Our experience with Sanctuary at Marian Oakland has been a very good one! From the moment you walk in everyone on the staff is going out of their way to help you. They were a huge help through the whole move-in process, and everyone has just done an outstanding job overall! The facility itself is clean and well kept, and I've also been very impressed with the food service. They've got two chefs on staff and the food is great!

Sanctuary is a great, affordable place for someone to live if they want to be independent. They do offer a lot of activities and stuff to do there. The food is excellent, it's all homemade and fresh, not out of a can.

I was in need of a place to live because while I am away from home caring for a loved family member. The hospice social worker found me a place at Sanctuary. This place is a true Sanctuary, clean, peaceful, 3 meals a day, emergency pendent, all utilities (except phone), including 25 channel cable TV. friendly and responsive staff. Friendly residents, there is almost always somebody to do something with and there are regular bus trips to Grocery/Dollar Stores and other places fun or interesting. There are at least 3 big TV parlors, just in case you want to watch your favorite team play. And they let me bring my aunt's cat with a pet deposit, not pet rent. and there is Home Health Aides residing on campus that you can hire for meds, baths, etc. And all included in $868.00 for a Studio apartment.

My contact with the staff there has all been positive. We were able to get my mother-in-law in sooner than expected given that they had a waiting list. The room was clean and they have fixed any problems identified. My MIL has made some friends fairly quickly. The price is very reasonable given the amenities and activities. It was the right place at the right time for us.

I was at a lost to find a decent place for my elder brother earlier this year. SAMO was recommended by an agent from the Area on Aging Association. I could not believe it was affordable rent and yet not Section8. When I called one location there wad not an opening, but the sales person heard the disappointed voice and told me that Marion had an opening and that she would have the person call me. It was a Friday late afternoon, and I needed something like thay day. The sales person at Marion, called me in less than 10 minutes. This is called great Customer service!!! Everything from that moment was positive. We had an appointment that next Thursday and the lease was signed. The apartment was very clean, excellent location for my brother who is a loaner. The services provided by another agency was too expensive for us, by being in the health field I was able to locate aaffordable assistance for him. So he needed Assisted Living Accommodations and has it. It is both Independent and Assisted Living with moderation. He is happy there and says the food is good. The people are friendly and the staff caring. We only have had a problem with the refrigerator, so I will get back to this review if it has not been replaced timely.

So far so good! It is an older building; it's the staff, their attentiveness, the food, the access to stores and the community, the services, and the wonderful residents truly are the stars here!

I am writing this review on behalf of my brother who lives at Sanctuary at Marian Oakland. As far as we know he is happy and adjusting well. It was some adjustment for him when he first moved back in August. He enjoys his apartment; the food and is making friends. I have to say he is somewhat of a "loner" and we hope he can begin to be more active in activities and outings.

A Place for Mom has scored Marian Oakland 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
