We chose Heritage Woods of South Elgin because of the convenient location, they accept Medicaid, and just the overall gut feeling. I toured 7 places and I got the best feeling here. The director of sales is very nice and friendly and gets back to you in a timely manner. Same about management, they would meet with me when I had any concerns. The one negative thing that happened after we moved in was the entire nursing staff left, so there was just one nurse there that we had worked with. They had to get people from corporate to come help while they were looking for new staff. Unfortunately it was a short experience for us, but I would recommend them to others looking.... Read more

This community was okay but there was another community that I liked more. They took me around and showed me everything on the tour but there was still another that stood out more to me.
I loved this community, they try to keep people as long as possible but it was more nursing home than lively due to how long some of the residents have been here. The tour experience was great.
It's a big place, with a lot of residents. My loved one was only there for 17 nights. Overall the few times I was allowed to go in, mostly just the move-in day. The building itself seemed clean, but the entryway in the dead of winter was disgusting. There were cigarette butts where everyone would congregate to smoke, so you had to walk through smokers to get into the building ,which was a turn-off to me. They were supposed to clean the rooms every week, but I don't think they cleaned it the whole time she was there. They did do her laundry maybe once. The sales lady was super nice, and the manager seems to be upfront and friendly. I didn't get a really good feeling with maybe a couple of the nurses. They were just kind of in a hurry, like maybe they were stressed with a lot going on. My loved one ended up being a fall risk, and I feel like she really shouldn't have been there. She needed more care than anyone realized. They did an assessment of her while she was at rehab, and I feel like they should have known. My loved one had a fall behind closed doors and ended up in the hospital. The day she went into the hospital , I asked to speak to the nurse on the phone and there ewas no registered nurse in for t he day. That was on a Saturday. It was all just a mess and not a good experience. It was too bad, because I was so excited goign ink, and then Physical, mental, monetary stress involved getting her moved out. The only positive was my loved told me she loved the food, the few meals that she had there. It didn't look like they were activities at all due to Covid.

A Place for Mom has scored Heritage Woods of South Elgin 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
