Mom has Alzheimer's. The Director of Sales (not sure if that title is correct) was new at the time, and she assured us that they were qualified to care for Alzheimer's residents, and there were activities throughout the day that they could involve her in. Five days after Mom moved in, we got a call from the Director of Admissions saying they were not qualified to care for Alzheimer's residents and we had two weeks to move her to a different facility. They did not involve her in activities throut the day, and one nurse even told us that Mom just stayed by the front door all day. After we moved Mom, we requested a refund from Heritage Village for the balance of the month. By then there was also a new Director of Admissions. We were told we had to contact the national office. Finally, six months later, we got our refund. Because there was so much turnover in staff, we did not have a good experience with Heritage Village. I hope they have improved since then. The only other thing I can think of to add is that while Mom was there, they had to treat the room next to her for bedbugs, but I know from my interviews with other facilities that bedbugs could show up at any facility.

I toured Heritage Village of Gladstone and it was a great tour. However, I didn't really care for the facility. We decided to continue with our search.
The director of marketing was brand new, it was only her second day on the job when she met with us. We told her that my loved one had dementia and that her Alzheimer's had gotten to the point where I could not take care of her. She assured us that they would take of her and that there were activities to do. On day 5, she called us and said that we needed to find mom a different place to live and that they could not deal with Alzheimer's. They gave us the impression that they were more than willing to care for her but we were very disappointed in the whole experience. It may work for some, but not for others.

July 6, 2022We are sorry for any disappointment that may have been experienced on your part through our new staff member. Many of our residents have Alzheimer's or dementia but your family members condition was unfortunately too advanced for our setting.

My 90 y/o sister moved in the week before Thanksgiving, so she hasn't been there long. She seems to be doing much better than she was before moving in to Heritage. They make sure she takes her meds properly, and the meals are good and balanced--something she wasn't getting before. She likes the staff & they are so kind to her. The interaction with others has been good for her. It may not be as fancy or roomy as soon of the other places, but many of the frills seen in other assisted living homes would not be of use to her. So far so good. The family is relived to have her in a safe, sound environment.

this was the worse place I have ever seen in my life I love that pic of the waitress over the couple that is false advertising. those 2 must go and stay at every nursing home their pics are in so many the staff well 90 % is a joke they give RESIDENTS peanut butter sandwiches to watch after other residents so they can do other things like nap and yes I mean nap. they do have great people to come in to perform but I wouldn't put my dog in there when I went on vacation. they had bed bugs in there because it was not kept up .

Response from Heritage Village of Gladstone
November 15, 2019Very sorry that you seemed to have a negative experience. You may be interested to know that he had no citations on our annual inspection which very few facilities achieve. In addition we have a dietitian who oversees our meal service for proper nutritional value and we have monthly service from our pest control company with records that show we have no pests including bed bugs
I get a kick out of the picture they show with woman leaning over the couple in suit and dress. there is not any that dress like that for meals. The meals are not elegant simply a meal you would see in a military kitchen such as grub, they do not watch after the residents but instead have them watch after each other . if you have pains it takes a while to get your pain meds or regulars. if you can be there 24 hrs and watch it would be ok but I would not leave anyone there if I couldn't. they do not take actins when medical needs is needed and house dr. is not a good dr.

When I walked in this facility I was not very impressed at all. It was a little too dark for me. The residents were all quiet and looked somewhat uncomfortable. I felt like this would not be the best choice for our loved one. The staff did show us around, but it just was not the place for me.

July 10, 2017The facility was updated in January of 2017 with new lighting through out the common areas
It's a wonderful place. The staff, and Kim [removed] in particular have just been fantastic. We have been very happy with Heritage Village so far.

There was one nurse that was really good to my grandma. Other than that, I feel like the staff [removed] her and she left with dehydration and pneumonia. It was assisted living, but I don't see how she could have come in and then leave a month later with dehydration and pneumonia. I really don't have any good things to say about them. It was clean on the first floor, but the rest of place is filthy. My overall experience was awful and I would never suggest anyone to go there.

My mother has done very well there at Heritage Village of Gladstone. The overall atmosphere is very warm and comforting. I know that she is being very well taken care of. The service, the staff, the food, and everything all seems to be above par. The only area for improvement I have noticed is that mom needs a little more encouragement to make sure that she is showering as often as she needs to. Overall we are really very pleased.

My mother has complaints, but I haven't seen the things she is complaining about. They have been very good about a lot of things. They were really helpful getting us moved in. I have seen little things, there was a light out in a hallway. I haven't seen any major problems. They are probably a little better than average.

My Mother has only been there seven weeks. She is getting use to it. She has a very nice room with all of her own things. The activies she has not participated in, she is having trouble with balance and walks with a walker. she has maculate degeneration on the eyes. We moved her here so she would have 24/7 care and she does have that some of it better than others. The nights are the worst for her.

I felt the Gladstone facility was too dark as my Mother and Aunt have low vision. I was also looking for a place where they could have their own living room and that did not seem to be available. I was very concerned that all of the rooms had Bath Tubs and my Mother or Aunt cannot manuever in and out of a bathtub. My Mom couldn't even with assistance. I felt the outside area was not inviting. However the Platte City facility outside area was very nice and only one level. If there had been rooms with private living rooms, and a walk in shower, I may have considered it. It was very nice. Even saw an old friend there who likes living there. I like the fact that they check up on the person if they don't make it to meals.

We stopped in at the heritage Village and found the community was nice but it did not fit what my mom was looking for. My mom has a scooter that she needs to get around and we felt there were no fire exits for emergency for her to get out in time also we felt there was not enough staff to help she such a occurence was to happen. We also found that the community was a little bite more what we were looking for spend.

We're very very happy with Heritage Village! Dad really seems to love it here. The nursing staff in particular do a really excellent job, they're very friendly and caring. I've also noticed that the residents themselves all just seem to be happy and well cared for in general. It really is a great place, and I would recommend it to anyone!

We were fine with it, I think they would have been accomodating to special needs even though we didn't have any. We chose it because it was referred to us by A Place for Mom and when we toured it was clean and nice and the manager was very friendly and informative. The rest of the staff was just fine, no problem. I know they took them on little trips and then they took them down to the park to the music in the park and they'd take them out for ice cream and they did play bingo. The fact that it was very clean and they did do crafts with them, it seemed like a nice place.
