Everyone that I have met at Encore Village of Schaumburg has been friendly. The staff reports that they are lucky to have my mom, which makes me feel like she has found a great community. The facility has a weekly newsletter with events and news which keeps the residents and family in the loop. The facility is kept clean and has become my Sunday hangout, which includes plenty of hang out areas for board games, game of pool, and great meal. A great place to live

Very clean, very friendly staff and residents. They do offer PT here. Great quality of care. There are 4 places on the menu to get food from and that changes every 3 months. The food is freshly made and completely different menus at all 4 places. There are plenty of activities plus educational opportunities, It is a great value for the money. All staff are kind and reliable. I love it here.

Really glad that we moved here

The Friendship Village community is very clean and all of the staff members have been wonderful - they are so friendly and we have not met a grumpy person yet. There are several different places inside the community where you can eat and all the meals that are prepared are delicious. There are plenty of activities going on and during the Christmas season they have wonderful entertainment here almost every single night. So far the value is good, and we are very happy with our decision. We would recommend this community to other families.

Was told one thing and they did not come forward on their word.

Was told we would get our entrance fee back in 12 to 18 months when the apartment was empty. They said don't worry what the contract says. It has been 2 1/2 years now with and still no money back, Please Please get a lawyer before you sign up. Still waiting....

My tour review

This community was more assisted living and I knew that my loved one was needing a higher level of care so these communities did not work. The community was okay I just did not feel like they could provide the needed care she was not independent enough.

Thanks for taking time to post a review. Friendship Village is a Life Plan Community offering all levels of care: independent living, assisted living, memory support, respite, rehabilitation, and skilled care. The individual needs of each resident can be met as their health changes. If you need any additional information or clarification and any of our levels of living, we would be more than happy to talk with you. Please feel free to contact us.

Tour of Friendship Village

Friendship Village was too big for us, there would be a lot of walking. They did not seem as focused on the needs of the person. For example the gal showing us around who had been there a long time could not answer some of the simple questions that we had. The facility itself also looked outdated.

Response from Friendship Village of Schaumburg, a CCRC

February 20, 2022

We certainly are a large community, but the way that we have the building compartmentalized, our residents are never very far from one or more of our dining venues, common spaces, or access to our beautiful outdoor space. We have been updating, refreshing, and remodeling our building and apartments, and will continue to do so. Please feel free to call and we’ll share some of the exciting renovations we’ve completed and have planned down the road.

Review of Independent Living at Friendship Village

I would want others to know that we paid for home care services. The staff in home care services were great, they knew my fathers likes and dislikes. They were very attentive and just overall outstanding. They had common areas for people to congregate, his area had a fireplace so everyone would meet there and he was able to make friends. They also had great social events for the residents.

Options for care

We enjoyed this community tour. The staff were helpful and helped us with the questions we had. We liked the list of the menu and the care that would have been helpful. We liked the activities. We did not find that the community had the environment that we were looking for. Families might want to consider this community for the care of a loved one.

A good Tour But Not A Good Fit

I did not pursue this community because I saw a large facility with thousands of residents. I felt my parent would not get the one on one attentiveness.

Overpriced apartments

The lady who gave us our tour was not prepared, which wasn't a big issue. I couldn't believe they wanted to charge almost $7,000 for an apartment that was smaller than a studio. The community wasn't very updated. The independent section was nice but the assisted living part needs some TLC.

A bit to much!

We saw this community and it is absolutely lovely. Very nice staff and looks like very nice residents. The community was clean and nothing wrong with it. The only thing is that we did not want to spend so much so this place would not work out.

Friendship Village gets my vote!

My daughter and I visited this facility recently and were very impressed. We had also visited other nearby facilities, so we were able to do comparisons. Friendship Village seems to have everything a retiring senior would want. Lots of activities, plenty of dining options, with excellent menus, a bank on hand, a small market when you run out of necessities, doctor's services in-house, absolutely beautiful grounds. They even have their own forest with walking paths for those of us who like to walk on something other than concrete. There pool is more than adequate and is heated. Many pool activities are planned each week, with a good selection of exercise activities in the heated pool. We thought the apartments were lovely. Certainly large enough for my husband and myself. We happened to look at the updated ones, so I can't honestly comment on the others. Altho, we were assured that if we selected another apartment, it would be fully updated before we moved in. I loved all the light coming into the apartment, too. Makes it appear even larger. Friendship Village also has many outside activities for seniors, such as, go-karting, rock-wall climbing, tubing, and pseudo sky diving or sky floating! I don't know of any other facility which offers such diverse activities. I suggest you look at their website or Facebook page to see all the activities they offer. The website also gives you the weekly menu, weekly bulletin, amenities and general information. Unfortunately, we were there on a Sunday in the fall, when I would guess many seniors visit their children or grandchildren in their homes. There weren't any activities going on that we could see. We would have been better off touring the facility mid-week when it would be full of busy, happy, seniors. All I know is that I am convinced this is the place I want to spend the rest of my life.

Big Place

The rooms aren't as nice and the place isn't updated. They don't offer very many floor plans. The staff is friendly but not as friendly as smaller places. It's like a big college campus as opposed to a small college campus or small town feel.
