Brookdale has been a great experience for my husband. He is involved in activities and enjoys being able to have our dog may visit and even sit in the courtyard. The staff is very friendly and caring. There are only a few issues. He would like to have more than one choice for meals, and have more aides understand how to deal with an ileostomy.

Brookdale Oro Valley has been the best decision I could have made for my husband. I am an RN by profession, and was well aware of the types of facilities I would have to choose from. Cost factors were very similar across the board, so my decision could not be solely based on that. What struck me immediately at Brookdale Oro Valley was that EVERY staff member along my tour stopped to greet me and introduce themselves. The Admissions coordinator, after discussion about my husband’s needs, asked me what I needed! I had never considered what I needed out of this decision, and it made me cry - that they would be concerned about me as well. Since Brookdale Oro Valley is strictly for those with dementia or Alzheimer’s, the entire staff is well versed in the art of distraction and redirection, which my husband needs a lot of! Since my husband has become a resident of Brookdale, he has been given “jobs “ to do, which has helped him to feel useful and fulfilled throughout the day. When I ask him, “how are you today?” He immediately answers, “happy!” I truly could not ask for more! Thank You to the entire team at Brookdale Oro Valley. I know I made the right choice!

Newer very nice facility. Lots of activities and amenities. Residents are engaged and alert. Staff is friendly and residents respond well to staff interactions. Move in costs and monthly fee are steep in comparison to some other locations.

We chose Brookdale, in part, because of the variety of activities offered for those with memory problems (exercise, music, arts & crafts, library, baking, patios and ample space for walking). We stayed however, because of the staff and caregivers, whose kindness and expertise helped make Brookdale a family. The residents are always treated with dignity, gentleness and unlimited patience. I visited daily and always felt welcome to join my husband in any activity, and I soon felt part of the family. I will always be grateful for the love and care shown to my husband during his last days.

My mother of 92 years has lived in a Brookdale Memory care facility in both California and Arizona. When I moved my mother to Arizona I toured several local facilities and decided upon Brookdale, Oro Valley. I was impressed with the home environment and the wonderful staff. In total my mom has lived in a Brookdale facility for 7 years. There is turnover, as with any memory care facility. The care is very loving. Everyone knows her name and I am always welcomed.

I moved my husband here because I wanted him to have activities that would help him to have a better quality of life. The written program looked fantastic, but I find the proposed activities don't always happen. Granted the Activities Director is new and just getting organized, so hopefully it will get better... My concerns about caregivers were quickly dispelled. They are very attentive and loving. Everyone is friendly and most helpful. Visitors are welcomed and made to feel part of the family. My husband is pleased and likes being here after an initial adjustment to change. Since he is comfortable and safe, I am able to relax and worry less! (Sorry, but that is what caregivers do!)

I am very happy with the services and care provided by Brookdale. The staff members are cheerful and attentive and the facility is open, well lit and brightly decorated. My mother in law moved to Brookdale from an assisted living facility in Phoenix. She was getting twenty-four-hour attendance and care from private and family care providers. We expected a steady mental decline after moving here three months ago. To our amazement and delight, her mental awareness and verbal fluency increased significantly. Potential reasons for the improvement are: 1. Constant and varied social encounters with other residents and staff. 2. Forced self-reliance for mundane interests and desires. 3. Less depression due to constant and carried social encounters.

I ending up moving my out of Brookdale in Oro Valley, AZ This place was terrible. My mom had no heat for almost 2 weeks. The management told me everyday that it has been fixed. When I went in to visit my mom she was shaking from hypothermia. This was in February when it was below freezing at night. They also accepted two dirty dogs with a couple they moved in that were not house trained and they were pooping and peeing all over the carpets. The poor caregivers were responsible for cleaning up after them! They are always short staffed and can't keep up. They have gone through managers one after the other..they have deceptive billing practices as they all blame someone else. The last straw was when they accepted a male resident who was making inappropriate comments to the female staff and others. He ending up finding a resident who he starting having sex with in other people's room so they started locking all of the resident doors. My mom is 93 and needs to be heard if she is yelling for help. This place was a nightmare! They also charge way more than other facilities as they are located in Oro Valley and feel it's justified for the zip code I guess.

We toured Brookdale while looking for living options for my father. While I thought it was fine, he didn’t like it. He wanted a smaller community, but I think it was a little too small for him with too many people. We ultimately chose to move elsewhere.

We had time to tour this community and we got good service that day. The staff were friendly and aware of what we were looking for. However my parents did not think they were close enough to them so we passed the opportunity.

They were really excellent with my father in that he was pretty difficult to deal with at first and they bent over backwards to make it work, and took their time to help him get adjusted. He was pretty difficult and they did an excellent job working with him.
