Biggest issue with Brookdale was they were short staffed and they cut corners especially with care in assisted living. With improvements, we would recommend this community to other families. Part of the issue was the post covid health care environment.... Read more

It's a great setting for seniors right on Lake Michigan and adjacent to Lincoln Park. The staff are super friendly and the residents seem to genuinely enjoy life. I would highly recommend this community.

For 30 days from mid-October through mid-November of 2023, my wife and I were given the opportunity to contract for a one-month stay at Brookdale Lake Shore Drive. We appreciated this opportunity to experience the atmosphere, amenities, and beautiful lakefront location of this premier retirement community! While we had no immediate need to move from our Oregon home, I am age 80 and have health conditions that might make it impractical to continue here in our single-family house. To that end, we wanted to proactively familiarize ourselves with one of the highest rated retirement communities in Chicago, where we used to live. We stayed in a 2-bedroom independent living unit. We found the staff exceptionally helpful and competent, and especially relied on the 24-hour concierge folks. The residents (who represented a wide range of physical mobility) were friendly, and many went out of their way to express appreciation for the care at Brookdale. With a full month of Brookdale dining.

There are a lot of senior living communities out there but few are as unique and welcoming as Brookdale Lake Shore Drive. Residents have a chance to see Lake Michigan from every apartment or simply stroll across the street to enjoy Lincoln Park. On-site staff is present 24 hours a day so our residents have peace of mind that there is always someone available. It's a great place and definitely worth checking out.

My parent's recent experience of moving to Brookdale Lake Shore Drive has been very positive. Their apartment is spacious, clean, and has a wonderful view of the city & lake. They really like the food served in the dining room and are enjoying the many activities. All the Brookdale staff have made my parent's transition to Independent Senior Living very successful.

The greatest and best thing I can say about Brookdale Lake Shore Dr. is that my mom seems more alive and vigorous after moving in. We were initially drawn to senior living after the independence of her living alone in the house I grew up in had turned into unsafe isolation. Brookdale competently provides all kinds of measures to create reliable security. But it’s been her taking advantage of everything after that, from good cooking in the dining room to a variety of exercise classes to the local shuttle services around town that make her more active, alert, and engaged. I am grateful to Brookdale and its dedicated staff for giving us this time together to spend comfortably.

The Brookdale Lake Shore Drive facility was excellent - their attention to detail was really good and the room our loved one had was just gorgeous and super lovely. There was a little deck where the residents could go and plant some flowers and vegetables. That was a really nice touch and they could sit outside and relax. Our one and only complaint was there is just not enough elevators - our loved ones room was way high up and at meal time sometimes you had to wait a long while for an elevator. The staff members were very personable. The restaurant was incredible, the room had a full kitchen. The activities were great for socialization - plenty of opportunity for the residents to interact with one another. We would recommend this community to other families based on the experience we had.

Brookdale is currently short staffed and the assisted living team is stretched thin. Hopefully this will get corrected. I want to stress, I do believe that Brookdale is doing their best given the difficulty in recruiting staff members.

We had a good tour experience with Brookdale Lake Shore Drive, but we were looking for a place that offered a little more independence than they did
If you are 80 or over you may like it, I am a bit younger so the crowd is much different for me. The staff are very pleasant and very helpful with everything, and overworked.

I would absolutely recommend the community to others. If I ever find myself in the same situation, this is the place or a place like this I would want to be. It is excellent. Sometimes the food isn't as hot as my loved one would like it to be.

All staff pleasant, good location. Except for Senior Living most entrees, soups and sauces too salty. Need nutritionists to make changes. Laundry room unattended! Filthy garbage all over. Machines dirty dryer dirty, needs repair for months. Door has to be prop to a chair to keep closed. Wrapped and garbage are left scattered always. Trash and garbage chute overflowing often! Cockroaches cited in the laundry room, trash area, and even on the first floor.

#1- friendly staff, great location. #2- Meals overly salted, vegetables always overcooked, no nutrients. Separating salt from entrees would be a better suggestion. #3- Trash chute mostly overloaded and Spilled to the floor. Left that way for days. #4- Laundry room tissues not removed from garments. Thrown all over the floor and in tumbler.
