Review of The Clare

My parents have been at The Clare since 2008, first in Independent Living, then my Father in Memory care and now my mother in Assisted Living. They chose the Clare as their plan for retirement. They both have enjoyed it as a place of social enrichment, engaging activity and an overall good place to spend their senior years. My father received excellent care on the memory floor and skilled nursing before he passed. For the past several years my mom has been in Assisted Living. I believe I can speak for all of my siblings when I say the quality of the staff at The Clare is very good, meeting all of our expectations. The care she receives gives us all peace that she is in a very good place. Any time I have a concern or issue, the Clare is responsive and meets the need quickly. We are grateful they chose The Clare!... Read more

DO NOT SEND ANYONE POST HOSPITILIZATION

NEGATIVE STARS. You will be told the Clare is one of the nicer facilities and it may be true for the nursing home portion however I have nothing nice to say regarding their rehab center. I met [name removed] the case manager to tour the facility and discuss what my mother had been through and the level of care she required. I was told the Clare was more than capable of handling her needs however that was a blatant lie. This is NOT an adequate rehabilitation facility for post hospitalization patients. The staff is under trained, under qualified and under staffed. I was incredibly clear on my mothers condition and the level of patience and care needed to keep her comfortable. Not only did they not respect our wishes; they did the exact opposite. They bullied my mother and when she asked them to please be more gentle with her and to stop hurting her she was told if she didn't like their treatment she could go back to the hospital. They also told her she needed to leave because they were i

The Clare does not care.

A very good friend of many years was extremely happy with this place until she suffered a stroke, was paralyzed and had to move to the assisted living floor. What a disaster! These floors are so thinly staffed that proper care cannot be given. We have had to go outside of The Clare and hire our own care team and still The Clare fights us. This has been a most sad experience. If you do not have someone who can fight for your loved one - they will not help and will wait until they die so they may turn over the room. A very sad experience!

A excellent community

It is very expensive. If money is no object then this is the place to go. The food is terrific. They have been great with the Covid -19. The units are small but they are all small everywhere. The staff is wonderful. They have a walking track and outdoor space on the 9th floor.

Beautiful Gold Coast neighborhood. Very secure but Memory care not suitable at this time. Only a shared suite. Dining area was dark and cramped. Also, very expensive and probably too much of an urban environment for my loved one. Did not tour assisted living but may be a good option fo those who don't need memory care and who want to be in the heart of the city.

Peace of Mind

My father has dementia but is still very independent minded. The Terraces at The Clare is a perfect home for him. They provide personalized care to meet his needs, a beautiful environment and delicious meals 3x/day.

We toured here, and realized this wouldn't work for our loved one. It's a buy in community, meaning that you pay a entrance fee. Also, this is a highrise building in downtown Chicago. It wasn't in a convenient location for my family, since we were looking for something in a more suburban setting.

A Place for Mom has scored The Clare 1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
