Response from Atria Encino Terrace
November 5, 2024Thank you for these kind and rewarding words. We're glad that we have been able to service your mom's needs in a manner that directly benefited you as well. We recognize that often times our clients are not only our dear residents, but their family members and loved ones as well.
I believe there were multiple turnovers in the week that we were there and there was NO communication within the staff to relay my mothers needs. The staff was unfit to care for my mother, and the level of care was misrepresented. For value for cost - we were misrepresented on the level of care the we would be given.. and then there were multiple attempts to collect on care that was NOT given. We paid to have extra care (more frequent visits from care team, if I remember correctly it was at least every hour) that never happened.. we paid to have special medication administered (that never happened) we paid to have water and crackers given to my mom and all meals in her room with assistance (as she was bed ridden) meals were delivered and just dropped off and left for hours to then be picked up.. On a daily basis we had to ask and remind to have to tasks taken care of ... everyday the staff would act as if they had no idea what I was talking about... (however, this was all in our contract) Then upon our departure.. approximately a week, we were presented with bills that reflected we had received these services.. which we NEVER did.. we receive the basic bare minimum.. in regards to these outstanding bills... we had spoke to management, they agreed to remove charges an send new bills.. however; multiple times we would receive the bill again with a new person not knowing what we were talking about. Bottom line it was not an overall good experience. I will say, the care staff was very nice and the facility was clean. Management and onboarding misrepresented the level of care the facility was able to provide. We would have never moved her in, had we known the extra request would be unattainable

Response from Atria Encino Terrace
October 30, 2024I am very sorry that you endured the experiences you have described. However, this community was sold 4 months ago and I'm the current Vice President of Operations and do not recognize any specifics from the experiences you are detailing and fear they occurred under a prior operator. I can assure you that THIS Encino Terrace Senior Living is committed to providing the highest standard of resident care, communicates diligently with families and responsible parties, and works very hard to ensure that resident needs are met and that there is clarity and agreement on all aspects of care needs, services and costs.
A family member chose this place to live a few months ago, on a recommendation from a friend. The place is safe, quiet, and generally well cared for. The food is very well prepared and well presented. There is always care and help available, from package delivery, to medicine questions, to help with the internet and wifi. A new owner has recently taken over (no longer run or owned by Atria). The main areas for improvement are more, and more interesting, activities for the seniors to participate in. And, as a family member, I would like to be informed of the plan in case of an emergency. On the whole, a good experience so far.

Everything worked out great and it was much easier process than most places that want to control everything for the resident.

Encino is a great city. A lot of really great stores close by. The decor of the facility is not modern at all. Has a feel of a nursing home. The staff is wonderful. I was informed that a new owner purchased the facility. Maybe they will remodel. Definitely needs more activities for the residents.

The staff is friendly and caring. It's a very clean facility with good food and round the clock care. The activities were nice and varied even if mom didn't participate in many of them. The value for the money was great. The staff are very personable. The cafe staff knew what my mom wanted for breakfast every morning because she had the same thing. Mom loved the Spanish classes there too. I ate dinner there with her once and the food was tasty.

I've worked in hospitality all my life and have never experienced such poor treatment and service to ANY group of people. They have since terminated the head nurse and the ED, which helps. Many of the staff treated my loved one very rudely. She has Parkinson's and was always being rushed and was told that she was taking too long. She became very depressed by the treatment. She hated the food. There were roaches. Maintenance was working alone for the entire building, so he never had time to help with repairs etc. The accountant would never provide accurate ledgers or any ledger and we were constantly under threat of eviction due to their messy bookkeeping. At times, there would literally be no caregivers or one for the entire building. It was horrible.

i’ve been here for 4 months and what I can tell you is that there are two things I enjoy here. They have a amazing art class , karaoke which is my favorite thing to do in the world !

I needed to find a place for my sister, and after checking out quite a few in the L.A. area, we chose Atria Encino Terrace. I am very happy we did. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff. [name removed], who gave me the tour and was able to accommodate us, was compassionate and really worked with us to make it happen. [name removed] and the care staff are wonderful, thoughtful and truly care. My sister was very nervous to be moving in, but they put her at ease. The residents all seem very happy with the activities and dining. It's a very hard thing, these transitions. But when you find a place that is well run and with great caring people, it truly helps in easing that emotional burden. I rated it highly.

Atria Encino Terrace is conveniently located and well priced. It has decent food and a caring staff. It is big enough to have a community, but small enough to not feel like an institution. After a few months, I am very happy with the experience there. It's the right place for us right now.

Atria Encino Terrace has been a great fit for my mother since her arrival in Aug 2023. What I seek most as primary hallmarks after 13 years of parent care in various assisted living residences are the kindness of staff and the cleanliness of the residence. After that, the responsiveness of management, then the delivery of medical /wellness services, meals, and activities. Many residences advertise this, but Atria Encino Terrace actually delivers a feeling of family because many of the care staff and management have worked together in the community for years. Turnover in staff at other residences creates confusion and impersonality for the residents and their families. Her meds are given regularly which I can see from the improvement of her chronic conditions. Meals are recognizable, homey foods that people eat. The Engagement director and staff not only schedule a variety of activities day and evening, but sweetly interact with residents throughout.

hi my name is [name removed] I’m staying Encino Terrace and it’s a it’s a lovely the dining room especially I like I’ve been in other places on tours the tables are very close together. It’s like a cafeteria but here it’s totally different. There’s plenty of room between tables and everybody I’ve met here has a smile, and they at least they smile at me. Maybe it’s because I look funny I don’t know but anyway, they are the food sex. The food is just fabulous and [name removed] the chef. he really cares about his food because every single day he comes out to make sure everybody’s happy and if you’re not happy, you tell him and he’ll fix it and they’re all like that everybody that works here at the pet that I have met that I have had words with they’ve always had a smile. So as I said, it’s just a smiling place and yeah, if you wanna move into an assisted living home, this is it And if you want to say hi to me, I’ll be in the dining room three times a day on the right hand side with a big mouth

Like what I always say it’s not a perfect community but you will feel it’s a big family that all staffs and residents have a big heart to care and love each other. Staffs are very friendly, hardworking, trustworthy, caring, helpful and very knowledgeable. They have a good activities around the building that the residents can join and they will not get bored.

A Place for Mom has scored Atria Encino Terrace 9.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
