The Variel of Woodland Hills

Prices are going up and quality is going down. Staff is hard to retain. Missed opportunities for a boutique-style senior community: their movie selections are TERRIBLE! You have seniors and are in the movie capitol of the world. You could have themed movie nights: musical or mystery Mondays, etc. Movies are barely attended. A senior who does not drive, does not have family or a caregiver can spend time in isolation when they could be out and socializing and enjoying good movies. They have a Tavern and have a Happy Hour daily. It does not have to be an alcoholic drink. It gets people out and together before dinner.

It's a mixed picture over there , plus they constantly change the point system when it comes to food. The place is not run well , they make mistakes all the time whether it's the point system with food or problems with the actual building they have a lot of turnover and nobody seems to know what's going on

A beautiful place is NOT enough when you have terrible management . All they are concerned with is looking good from the outside . They are inconsiderate unprofessional not trained and are NOT looking out for your loved ones best interest. I highly do not recommend The VARIEL or the company which is planning on opening another facility in Encino called the [removed] STAY CLEAR keep your parents friends and family away from this place they will promise you the world and deliver disappointment

The staff and the residents at The Variel of Woodland Hills are friendly and welcoming. Housekeeping is weekly. The move in process went smoothly. They offer a variety of food choices. I would recommend this facility to others.

The facility and amenities are awesome. The management is a complete disaster, and when there are problems, they do not respond to phone calls and emails, and then they blatantly lie to cover up their own mistakes.

We picked this community because of the location, amenities, and the fact that it was a new and beautiful facility. Everyone was extremely friendly, flexible, accommodating, and clearly knowledgeable and competent.

Yes, I know they're having trouble filling staff, so I know my aunt is not always happy with the staff not being there when they are supposed to. However, she does like the food which is a big deal !

The Variel is a brand new facility, and it is beautiful! Memory Care patients are on the seventh floor, which has full floor to ceiling windows! It is bright and cheery, and the view is amazing. The staff is very friendly and caring. However, as a new facility, we have experienced a few bumps along the way. They were understaffed for a while. That made things a little rough for a while. Things are much better now. They seem to be working out the bugs. The nursing staff is great. My Dad gets his meds on time. On the seventh floor residents get a nice big room, or an even bigger room, depending on what you want to pay. The food is very high quality, tasty and healthful. It does sometimes arrive from the downstairs kitchen cold. Thank goodness for microwaves! My family likes the all-inclusive set up. There are never surprise fees. Residents who are not in memory care have nice apartments, a beautiful dining room and many have dogs! Every single resident I have met says they LOVE living there. Tons of activities for them too. In memory care there are fewer activities, but they have done salsa dancing, and they do art. Overall we are very satisfied with the Variel. It is by far the nicest place in the area. A gorgeous facility but completely understaffed on weekends. The memory care facility advertises great activities but they don't happen. My father has been there for 3 months and he's so bored. There just isn't enough for the residents to do and we're frequently told "we're understaffed" -- which is NOT okay. We pay over $[removed] a month, and we expected more. They need to find better qualified staff for memory care. [name removed]and [name removed]are fantastic (they run memory care) but they don't have enough qualified staff under them. We have complained and it gets better for a while, but then returns to status quo. In short - better educated staff (they need to learn more about dementia) and better activities are needed to make this a top facility. (Note: All of the staff is caring and compassionate but most don't have the tools to work with people with dementia. A little education would go a long way.) We know the facility is relatively new but we're losing our patience. We hope it improves!
