Although my Grandmother has only been at Arden Courts San Antonio few weeks, It has been a wonderful experience. We had been preparing for the better half of a year for my Grandmother’s transference of care into a Memory Care home. Arden Courts San Antonio and [name removed] there in particular, have made this a very easy and successful transition. My heart no longer feels heavy and worried. I know my Grandmother is getting the best care possible. The staff at Arden Courts San Antonio is friendly, compassionate and always willing to help. We look forward to my Grandmothers continuance of care there, and are very happy she is able to call Arden Courts San Antonio, home.

Even with the COVID restrictions, my mother has benefited from the many activities at Arden Courts. She's met some nice friends and enjoys the company of her small community. The staff is always ready to give me updates on her adjustment and having a neurologist on staff is of tremendous benefit. Her move to Arden Courts has exceeded our expectations and I feel she is in a safe and caring environment.

Our family loves Arden Courts and couldn’t be more thankful that we found such a wonderful place for my husband to live. When we could no longer care for him at home we began our search. Initially, we heard great things about [name removed] who specializes in treating all forms of dementia and sees residents weekly at Arden Courts. We knew we needed help with medication.[Name removed] saw my husband the day after he moved in and then our family was able to meet with her and the rest of the care team immediately afterward. She explained that it would take time because each medication had to be added individually so she could tell what was working. They let us know that their desire is to use the least amount of medication necessary. The other thing the care team emphasized was their desire to help each resident keep as much independence as possible. True to her word, [name removed] gradually found the right balance of medication for him but also continues to monitor him in case she needs to make any changes. We can meet with her and the care team anytime we have questions or concerns. Although the care team was our first consideration, we were so pleased to find the rest of the staff very knowledgeable and engaging. The director, as well as many of the staff, have been there for ten years or more. At our very first visit we were given a wealth of information including a very informative book about the different kinds of dementia. We were very impressed with the amount of training the caregivers receive. All of our caregivers have been loving, caring and, above all, patient and kind. You can tell they really love what they do and know that they’re making a difference. The facility is divided into four “houses” each with its own kitchen, living room and dining room. This makes for such a warm, homey, and welcoming atmosphere. Each room is equipped with a sink and commode and each house has two showers (they call them “The Spa”) easily accessible down the hallway. Although each resident calls one house their “home” they are free to walk through each house as well as access the beautiful courtyard with walking paths on their own during the day. My husband loves this freedom. One of our favorite things to do is invite all the kids and grandkids over for a picnic in the courtyard. The food is delicious and served to each table in the Individual dining rooms. The portions are ample and there’s typically enough for extras if someone is especially hungry. They also keep yummy snacks in the kitchen if anyone needs a little something to eat between meals. They have lots of activities throughout the day and evening with plenty of variety. They provide a monthly calendar with all the activities listed so family members can plan to join in the fun. The activities director also schedules special events for families to particulate in. At Christmas each family was asked to bring a special ornament and their loved one placed it on the tree. In our family, my husband was in ministry his whole life, so we found a beautiful little ornament of a country church. The staff drew names and each resident received a gift bought especially for them. The kids and grandkids got to come and have “breakfast with Santa” and give him their wish list. Besides activities for residents and their families, Arden Courts also has educational opportunities for the community. They’ve had great speakers, the virtual tour that simulates what persons with dementia experience, as well as support groups for family members and others. During this difficult time when we've been unable to be with my husband due to Covid19, we are so thankful to know that he is loved and well cared for and the nursing/caregiving staff keeps us in touch. We’ve been able to FaceTime and have “through the window visits” with him as well.

My sister had initially spoken and taken a tour with [name removed], then my brother and I went a few days later to tour with [name removed] . We were very happy with the information we received and also glad to see the residents in an activity. The calendar we were given had a variety of activities for the residents to choose from. The staff at Arden Courts goes above and beyond their duties to make residents and family members feel at home. My mother had been a resident elsewhere but this is the ONLY place she called her home after less than a week of residing at Arden Courts. That is in itself is a huge accomplishment. Recently my mother voluntarily expressed how well she was treated and that she was happy. Although the virus has kept the community off limits to family members, there are different communications sent to keep us updated with what they are doing to keep the residents safe and healthy as well as a calendar of activities along with pictures of some the end results. My family really enjoyed driving by for Mother's Day with the residents outside. It was very special for us as children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to see her in person. My mother looked very happy and healthy. We are able to have face time or window visits with her also. Whenever I have called to speak to my mother, to ask a question or just to ask how she is doing, , everyone takes time out of their busy schedule to respond or to ask others if they need more information before they respond. I feel that all the staff are dedicated and have a passion for what they do because of the way they communicate every time I call. It is not just a quick response but a sincere effort on their part. I would highly recommend Arden Courts to anyone who needs a place for a family member.

Thank you to everyone at Arden Courts! In my moms first week realizing she needed medical attention ASAP. Surgery was successful, then rehab. Y’all welcomed her back but because of pandemic we haven’t been able to visit. Y’all have come through with FaceTime, Mother’s Day parade. To hear her say she loves you helps us during this time of not being able to be with her. Thank you to each person providing care or any service for our mom!

I couldn’t find a place for my husband due to his violent behavior. Arden Courts San Antonio took [name removed] in after another Memory Care facility failed him bu getting him put in jail his first night. AC worked with me and my daughter to get [name removed] help and were able to handle his violent tendencies. They said they could take him temporarily until I found one that VA would help pay for; they never pushed me into a full-time solution. However, I decided to keep him there as they proved to me that he was being taken care of with compassion and humor. He settled in and seems to be happy.

I highly recommend Arden Courts for your loved one — there is an intimate, family like feel to the professional and compassionate care provided there. As a result, even though I considered being my mother’s advocate as my role, I was able to spend quality time visiting & loving her, confident that her other needs were being met.

I can not say enough positive things about Arden courts. Their caregivers are loving and nurturing. They treat my loved one and our family like “family”. They are trustworthy and kind. We really appreciate the dedicated and professional services that they provide. We also like the special touches; like the hair salon, manicures, in facility doctor’s visits, and church services.

I found that they were not able to handle my husband's more difficult behavioral aspects of dementia without medicating him and then to continually increase dosages instead of effectively redirecting him. They do offer activities for the patients, but seem to expect the patients to know when to show up for the activities, even though this is a memory care facility. Staff does not strictly acknowledge a patient's right to medical record privacy. Nice place for patients in the early stages of dementia or in the late stages, but if your SO is in the unpredictable, challenging middle stages, be prepared for the 30 day notice!

My dear husband has only been in Arden Courts since January 27th. So far, I am elated by the level of care he has received from their knowledgeable and caring staff. His room is always clean and comfortable. He enjoys all the activities; painting, singing, "name that tune", kickball in a sitting position, church, etc. The "four houses under one roof" setup is brilliant. It makes for a very safe and pleasant environment. Looking forward to warmer weather so we can take advantage of the numerous walking paths set in a park-like setting. I have joined my hubby for lunch and found the food to be ample and delicious. Their caring encompasses the entire family, not just the resident. I'm hopeful that Arden Courts will be his "forever home".
