All assisted living communities in Florida must be licensed and regulated through the Bureau of Health Facility Regulation. Beyond the standard license, you may find assisted living communities with additional specialty licenses like limited nursing services, extended congregate care, and limited mental health services.

Standards of care

Assisted living communities with standard licenses provide housing, meals, and personal care services. Staff may either help residents with taking their medications or, in some cases, administer the medications for them.

There must also be someone available on staff at all times who is certified in first aid. The staffing requirements depend on the size of the facility and the regulations generally care for facilities to have enough staff present to meet all the needs of the residents at all times. There are also strict training guidelines for staff members on everything from emergency procedures to providing personal care. Specialized training is required for those assisting those with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Staff members are required to pass extensive criminal background checks. They must be screened again every five years.

Inspections

Communities are inspected before being licensed and at least every two years after to make sure they are following requirements. These inspections generally cover the following elements:

• Staff and patient ratios
• Staff training
• Resident care plans
• Number of registered nurses on staff
• Dietary plans
• Safety precautions
• Adherence to all regulations

COVID-19 regulations for Naples assisted living facilities

At present, there are no COVID-19 ordinances in Naples. However, it is recommended that individuals and assisted living facilities adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Here’s what the CDC recommends:

Care on hand

Assisted living provides personal care, and many of our partner facilities offer a range of medical care services. According to A Place for Mom data, full medication management is available at nearly all of our partner facilities, ensuring that residents receive their required medications promptly and accurately. With 24-hour awake staff, facilities provide around-the-clock assistance and care to residents. On-site nursing is available at 92% of facilities, and 31% of facilities have skilled nursing facilities on-site for residents with more complex medical needs.

In terms of walkability, Walk Score ranks Naples as a 35 out of 100. Walking routes, biking routes, public density, and public transit all factor into this walk score. This means Naples, FL is primarily a car-dependent city, and cars are necessary for most daily errands.  There are, however, some neighborhoods that are easier to get around without a car. Old Naples, Lake Park, and Sun Terrace are the most walkable neighborhoods in the city. There are also some bike lanes available, too.
