If your loved one has dementia or Alzheimer’s, you may want to consider a home that is dedicated specifically to memory care. The Opal at North Naples is just such a place. Our goal is to engage our community members and provide opportunities to be active and independent — while always providing excellent care.
We’re conveniently located in Southwest Florida near US-41 and are only a 15-minute drive to those white sandy beaches Florida is known for. Family interaction is important, so we have resources available to help families understand the challenges a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s may be facing.
Our community has a unique arrangement. Rather than one large facility, we’re a grouping of smaller one-story cottages, each housing up to 14 people. This creates a familiar environment and fosters a sense of belonging for everyone in our community.
Cottages at The Opal are safe and secure without feeling imposing. We have cleverly disguised doors to prevent exit-seeking behaviors. Grounds are secured by fences, which are aesthetically pleasing and don’t prohibit residents from enjoying the lovely view. Our buildings are also designed to have clear sightlines for important features and locations, such as the kitchen...

It’s no wonder this community has such high staff turnover and management changes, as the owners care about nothing but the bottom dollar. If the poor caregiving, urine smell, and rundown appearance don’t give you pause, then the financial instability of a company over 7 figures in debt should. All these issues point to poor management, which leads to poor care. This has been an ongoing issue for years. Since they’ve driven off all of the good caregivers and staff that want to help the residents. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. The prices are not worth your loved ones life. If you wonder why the community has good reviews. Notice that they’re mostly from other marketers in the business. Back scratching at its finest.

My mom got SCABIES 3 times between April -Nov 2022 living in cottage 2! She was continually being reinfected because they were not following proper protocol. At the time of her move out it was my observation that several residents still had a rash. In my opinion my moms cottage was filthy, I had to routinely clean her room myself. The living room couch had brown smears on it that no one would clean for weeks. I saw no supervision of caregivers behind the closed doors of the cottages. It was typical for me to see them more interested in their cell phones than in the residents. One day I walked in to a caregiver asleep in the chair! There is constant staff turnover. In 2 years, 5 exec directors, 5 director of wellness, 4 marketing, 2 office managers… I wish there was more space I could write a novel of reasons to stay away. Please don’t be fooled by the 5 star reviews, I too was approached to write a positive review for The Opal. Shame on me for not moving my mom sooner.

Very nice staff, Staff ESPECIALLY LEADERSHIP really care about what they do and the wellbeing of the clients. Within the community the Opal provides a beautiful home style setting, with the open cottage style feel giving the residents a level of independence in which matters. The court yards could use some love but over all the team in which they have been able to onboard bring a hard working ethic to the table.

While touring the facility, I noticed that you get a vibe like you were in a family gathering, like you have a family member at home with his friends around him/her. I also saw that the staff was very caring with their patients, treating someone with memory problems, takes someone with a lot of patience, and that’s what I saw. If you’re looking for a facility that will make your love one feel at home this is the place to be..

My 89 year old mother had to be evacuated to Miami from her Fort Myers ALF when hurricane Ian hit. Her Fort Myers facility was flooded leaving her with no where to go when the Miami facility had to discharge her. The Opal came to the rescue and walked us quickly and efficiently through all the details of arranging mom’s admittance. I can’t say enough about how helpful and caring the staff was and the excellent care they provided mom during this trying time. Thank you to everyone for all that you do,!

Mom moved in with us from Denver after suffering 2 broken hips with in 2 weeks of each other. While in the hospital she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Alzheimer’s. It was overwhelming to say the least. We found The Opal and couldn’t be happier for her and us. From day one the whole staff has been not only to us but Mom for sure. They send us pictures of her engaging in all the activities and her smiles. She loves to help with the other residents. It gives her a purpose. We are not so worried about her “going downhill” so fast with the people at The Opal. It has eased our minds so much. Thank you all so much

I thought The Opal was horrible. The place was dirty, and fabrics were soiled. At first, I liked the idea of a smaller community like theirs. But what if my loved one didn’t jive with the 15 people there and was stuck with them? Also, it cost the same amount of money, but the facility was not nearly as nice as the place we chose.
Where do I start??? I've had to bathe my own mother because she has not been bathed in 2-3 days when I visit and smells. I never see any human empathy from the aids. A new guy just arrived, and he screams "help" at the top of his lungs everytime I visit. All he wants is to talk to his wife, but they won't let him. Then there are the chocolate morsels I found on a table one day. Turns out a patient had taken those out of her colostomy bag and set the "nuggets" on the table. No one noticed for who knows how long. Toilets don't flush, holes in walls, every time I visit, it's something new. Directors come and go every few months. If I didn't visit, things would be horrible for my poor mom.

The staff are wonderful and everyone knows all of the patients and it helps me sleep better at night knowing the care that my loved one is receiving. The food is also amazing. The chef is so good for the community and he goes the extra mile for every occasion and has been there for a long time. They bring in people for activities and they always have something going on in the community for the residents. They have their own physicians and a whole care team that come in and out of the community also to see the residents. My mother is happy and this is all that I ask for.

A Place for Mom has scored Elite at North Naples 9.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
