The town played a significant role in the Civil War as the site of the northernmost battles of the war. Popular historic sites in Mechanicsburg include the Station Masters House, built in 1863, and the Frankenberger Tavern, which was founded in 1901 and is allegedly haunted.
Mechanicsburg is also famous for its Jubilee Day street fair, which runs for an entire day during the second week of June. Held on Market Street, which is home to a number of boutique shops and restaurants, it’s the region’s longest street fair and features food, games, crafts, and rides.
