We really like the nursing staff and the manager, our only complaint we have about the place is over the weekends there are no regular staff members. The rooms are nice, and our loved ones thing the food is good.

Westchester Village of Lenexa

Mom's 1st fall led to 9 weeks of pain and substandard care in rehab facilities and with her passing. During this 9 weeks it was decided that Mom and Dad would not be able to remain in their home of 50+ years and after extensive research Westchester Village was selected for their Assisted Living accommodations. We moved Dad in and Mom moved to their Skilled Nursing to complete her rehab but the falls and her illness won that battle. With Dad in Assisted Living, regulations prevented Mom from joining him for hospice. Rather than have her somewhere that he couldn't visit, Westchester Village made their on-premise apartment available for hospice which allowed Dad to spend as much time as possible with Mom at the end as well as providing extra space for my rather large family as we were also trying to provide comfort and support to Mom, Dad, and each other. Courtney O'Connor, Judy Baxter, and the staff at Westchester Village have been kind, gracious, and generous thru this difficult time

Silverado Lee's Summit Memory Care Community

I would say that it's hardest thing I've ever done to put my husband in this place. But I really don't think any other place would have been better. He wanted to be home, of course. The friendliness of the staff helped me. When my loved one tried to get out someone was there to prevent it. It might have been hard for Silverado because they didn't have a separate area for mental health.

Spring Hill, Kansas

Nursing Homes

A nursing home is a community that houses two or more persons who have no familial relation to the administrator. This type of complex offers its inhabitants 24-hour care by registered nurses. These caregivers provide health related services for seniors who cannot adequately take care of their own needs due to the effects of aging.

This type of community is a convenient and easy living alternative for persons 65 years or older, however nursing homes will routinely take in persons 55 and greater which is unusual for other senior care types. There are some services that may come at a cost to residents which can include flowers and plants, personal comfort items, and special care services not included in the community’s Medicaid payment. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to form or participate in resident groups, exercise your rights as a U.S. citizen, have protections against involuntary transfer or discharge, and be treated with respect. Nursing homes are required to provide specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability), a professionallly directed program of activities, nursing and related services, and room and bed maintenance services to residents. Often times individuals might prefer life in a nursing home due to a physical or mental condition that prevents them from easily accomplishing their standard of living. Many occupants of nursing homes are persons with behavioral difficulties, which can consist of a tendency to wander, resisting care, or verbal outbursts.
