I took a tour with [name removed] , what a sweetheart. She was professional, knowledgeable and represented the company well. I am looking a ways out, but defiantly my first choice. I was very impressed. They also have a great Asian infused menu.

Sunrise of Cupertino in Sunnyvale, CA

Everyone from the receptionist to the administrators to the caregivers has been very kind and does their best to make my husband feel comfortable and at home. Our experience was a bit different because at first he was just going to be a temporary stay, but then it turned out to be permanent. That eliminated the talk about "We are putting you in this place." By the time we decided he wouldn't be coming home, he was very used to being there and it seemed normal to him.

Complete guide to nursing homes

Scotts Valley, California

Nursing Homes

A nursing home is a building that houses two or more persons who have no family ties to the administrator. A nursing home community provides its residents with care by on-site nurses. These caregivers provide health related services for those who cannot adequately take care of themselves because of mental or physical conditions.

This type of community is a familiar and easy care choice for individuals 65 years and above, however nursing homes will accept persons 55 and greater rarely heard of in senior care regarding care types. Types of amenities and services provided at nursing homes can include skilled nursing or medical care, adult day health care (which offers nursing and therapy) , wound care for pressure sores or a surgical wound, and bill pay. The most common mental condition experienced by nursing home residents is dementia, which can cloud their memory function, decision making capabilities, and and familiarity. Often times persons might decide life in a nursing home over another type of community due to a physical or mental condition that prevents them from easily accomplishing their lifestyle goals. There are some services that may come at a cost to residents which can include specially prepared food, special care services not included in the community’s Medicaid payment, and personal clothing. Nursing homes are required to provide routine personal hygiene items, specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability), dietary services, and pharmaceutical services to residents.
