This place is an excellent facility that specializes in the care of Chinese speaking people. It is well maintained and the staff is always ready to help. My mom lived there until she passed .

Merrill Gardens at Campbell

When it comes to the activities - my understanding is that they do not have an activities director, and it shows. For over two months now. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families and we actual have a friend moving their loved one into Merrill Gardens

Sunshine Villa, A Merrill Gardens Community in Santa Cruz, CA
4.6

The facility is circular and beautifully Victorian surrounding a sunny lush garden courtyard. Setting is on a hill three blocks from the ocean. There is always a friendly receptionist close to the entrance to greet you and who always answers the phone when you call. Everyone one on the staff is friendly and happy to help. They all offer help if you look a little lost or unsure. The food is outstanding in a dining room that is always clean and sunny. The elevator is a little slow so you need not be in a hurry . Give yourself an extra few minutes coming or going.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home offers lodging to at least two seniors who have no family ties to the administrator. A nursing home community provides its residents with around-the-clock care by registered nurses. These nurses offer maintenance, personal care and other health related services for those who are unable to properly care for their own needs.

This type of community is a convenient and comfy care alternative for individuals 65 years or older, however nursing homes will often take in persons 55 and above (a rarity in the world of senior care). The most common mental issue effecting residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can hinder their memory function, and their sense of familiarity with their surroundings, and decision making capabilities. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to be free from discrimination, have your representative notified about your care, form or participate in resident groups, and to manage your money. Types of care services and amenities provided at nursing homes can include personal care (including dressing, bathing, and toilet assistance), home care (like cooking, cleaning, or help with other daily activities), intravenous or nutrition therapy, and help with shopping and transportation. Many residents are bachelors or widows with circles of support, and about half of nursing home residents are older than the age of 85. Often times individuals may select life in a nursing home due to a physical or mental impairment that prevents them from easily accomplishing the activities of daily living.
