Sunshine Villa, A Merrill Gardens Community in Santa Cruz, CA
4.6

The facility is circular and beautifully Victorian surrounding a sunny lush garden courtyard. Setting is on a hill three blocks from the ocean. There is always a friendly receptionist close to the entrance to greet you and who always answers the phone when you call. Everyone one on the staff is friendly and happy to help. They all offer help if you look a little lost or unsure. The food is outstanding in a dining room that is always clean and sunny. The elevator is a little slow so you need not be in a hurry . Give yourself an extra few minutes coming or going.

Whispering Pines Inn, LLC in Hollister, CA

Whispering Pines Inn has devotedly served the San Benito County for over 26 years. The management & staffs are caring & very responsive to their elderly residents. Being a caregiver is not an easy task. You have to have the heary & compassion which I have seen with the employees as well ad the owners who are there even on weekends. They are hands on in all they do!

Vista Harden Ranch in Salinas, CA

The director was very helpful with the questions I had for my Mom and her husband. Once a decision was made, She also made the tour experience pleasant for my Mom. Extra compassion and empathy was needed and it was provided. The facility is homey and inviting with its furnishings and colors.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home is an establishment that houses at least two individuals who have no familial relation to the administrator. A nursing home community provides its residents with 24-hour care by on-site nurses. These nurses provide personal care, maintenance and other health related services for people who cannot take care of themselves because of their aging.

This type of community is a familiar and comfy living alternative for persons 65 years and above, however nursing homes will routinely accept individuals 55 and greater which is uncommon for other senior care types. A significant amount of residents are single women who have circles of support, and almost half of nursing home residents are over 85 years old. The most common mental disease effecting nursing home residents is dementia, which can cloud their and familiarity, decision making capabilities, and memory recall. Types of care services and amenities offered at nursing homes can include patient and caregiver education, intravenous or nutrition therapy, rehabilitation needed due to injury, disability, or illness, and wound care for pressure sores or a surgical wound. Often times individuals might decide to live in a nursing home over another type of community due to a physical or mental disability that makes it difficult for them to accomplish their lifestyle goals. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to be free from discrimination, get proper medical care, be free from restraints, and be treated with respect.
