The Residence at St. Peter’s in River Edge, NJ
4.5

We went with The Senior Residence at Se. Peter Apostle because they offered a comparable level of service for almost $2000 less a month. The facility is smaller with only 20 rooms, it is a former convent so you have to be ok with a small room versus some other places that had large rooms. They have communal bathrooms and showers but there are 4 per hall so she has never had to wait. In terms of services, the other places we saw were not offering much more than this one and were more expensive. Here they offer 3 meals a day and access to coffee and tea throughout the day in a common room. It offers towel and bedsheet cleaning. But they do not have as many activities provided which is ok. The atmosphere is homey and she is comfortable here. I would absolutely recommend that others check it out. Staff are amazing and it doesn't matter who it is, they are super helpful to the residents. You can reach the director at anytime, she even gave me her phone number if we needed anything.

Westchester Center for Independent and Assisted in Yonkers, NY
4.0

My father in law is doing okay here at this community, he is still adjusting, but they are caring for him well. We do feel comfortable with his move to this community, it is a nice place. [Removed] is amazing. She was great to work with, she was very helpful, and understanding. The front desk receptionist isn't very pleasant, but the rest of the staff is very kind, and helpful. His room is well maintained when we visit, but the guest restroom could be better maintained. They have been very accommodating, and this is a community I would recommend.

Fountainview at College Road in Monsey, NY
4.2

I received helpful and friendly service from both the staff and administration. The facility is clean and secure, the grounds are well kept, there are numerous activities and services available on premises, and free bus service to local businesses. For independent living, it's a very good fit for my 90 year old parents. Age-in-place assisted living options are available if and when necessary, as well.

  • Social activities and outings
Complete guide to independent living

Armonk, New York

Independent Living

If you would benefit from the peace of mind of having housekeeping and chores handled while living the way you wish, you might consider the option of independent living. Occupants may continue to use their free time as they wish while their meals are cooked by a professionall chef, housekeeping and laundry duties are taken care of by staff, and recreational activities are scheduled and organized. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to be among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and backgrounds. Residents’ quarters consist of private living spaces, each with their own kitchen. The independence of apartment life is still enjoyed, offering an opportunity to socialize with guests and visitors in a private and personal setting. While policies differ between locations, numerous residences allow pets as well. If medical or nursing assistance is desired, residents may always enlist the services of private care providers. There are a variety of benefits and expenditures to balance while deciding on an independent living community. It is important to figure out if these amenities are covered in your service plan: private phone, initial assessment fee, transportation, parking, laundry, move-in fee, meals, and internet access. The benefits associated with independent living include concierge services, security guards, private rental hall, fitness center & swimming pool, beauty salon & barber shop, golf course, restaurant-style dining hall, and healthcare center.
