We initially feared Mom would not like being in assisted living, but she absolutely loves it at the Oaks Manor. When we do get her out for the day she is always ready to get back. She always mentions how safe she feels being there. The employees go way above and beyond what is expected and genuinely care about the welfare of their residents. Mom can select what she wants to eat, and she is always taking part in some kind of activity or another. I don't think she realized how alone she was staying at home by herself, even with the family calling and stopping by daily. She is as happy and energetic as we have seen her in years. Cannot say enough good things about the Oaks Manor and the great people working there.
I have lived here for about a year and a half. I have enjoyed it immensely. Very friendly people live and work here. I recommend it for people 65 years old and older. We get three meals a day plus snacks. We get activities that are great. We have exercise programs for 45 minutes at least 2 times a week. There is also bingo and occasionally we will get entertainment from the community. That is great and very enjoyable. We have sing a longs and bell choir. During the holidays, the staff is wonderful in surprising us with different kinds of activities that we don't do on a regular basis. We also have someone come in to do chair yoga with us. To me, it is a great place to live. The staff is very helpful.
My father felt very isolated there as they did not have many activities he was interested in. He did not like the food but the personnel were friendly to him and helped him to meals and gave him his medications but otherwise he did not see them very often as he did not leave his room. He was 99 years and it was hard for him to wheel himself around the facility. Much of the problem was his age and his ability to help himself as he should have and the lack of activities.
