If a friend asked about my experience I would say that overall, it has been mostly positive. I would like the communication to flow more smoothly between myself and my mom's caregivers. As her mental decline continues, we rely heavily on the people who are with her daily to help support her in any way possible, and to the level that we would do ourselves. I would recommend this place to others, but I would also greatly encourage them to make sure they communicate what they feel there elder family member needs, and that they follow up and expect responses in a timely manner. The dietary staff is wonderful as are the RA's. The facility itself is clean as a whistle. They treat my loved one with respect.

I believe they are honestly concerned about my mom. It's not a big facility & not a lot of residents in each wing. I am kept up to date if I can't get there for a couple days. The residents wait in the living room until the doors open up for activities in the "town square". The food is good but sometimes come out cold. I have asked for the aids to warm up my mom's food in microwave before giving it to her & that pretty much takes care of it. Over all I really appreciate the aids & med-techs.

Communication with the family is getting better, but only after I complained. The move in process was okay, however we were shown a one person room with microwave, small frig, etc. Ended up with a small room without anything in it. I got my loved one a microwave and fridge, so it was okay with me, not so much with other families that I met there. Housekeeping is something that I gripe about on a daily basis. The meals leave a lot to be desired, like serving dry white rice, cold or lukewarm food & this week they microwaved the meat, making it tough. These residents are 98% elderly and it's a challenge to chew tough as nails food. I would not recommend the facility. I haven't changed because it is to hard on him & we, as a family, check and visit every day or every other day.

Response from Westmont of Fresno
March 14, 2024We are sorry that your experience has not met your expectations, though our Executive Director is making sure to regularly visit your father to make sure that overall communication has improved. Due to privacy laws, we are not able to respond to a resident’s care. Though we would like to point out every Independent Living and Assisted Living apartment has a microwave and refrigerator. We do not supply these in our Memory Care apartments as they are considered to be a safety hazard, but families are free to furnish them if they so choose. With regard to meal delivery, we believe that this will be handled best by talking directly with the Executive Director.
Awful experience The memory care unit has long response time to people running out through the window Smells like urine and dirty diapers all the time They call the police when they can't handle the patient Not trained at all in memory care and know little how to manage patients with memory loss

I've talked to several people about the quality of the food at the memory care residence. It's always warm to cold & I'm constantly asking for it to be warmed up. I know that a lot of the residents don't care if the meal is seasoned, but my mom is always complaining. I know the aids/girls serving have nothing to do with this, but they get the brunt of complaints & harassment from the residents. Speaking of the girls, the new admin has made a lot of changes & drove many of the help away. They were good workers & wonderful to the residents. Its hard for my mom cuz just when she felt comfortable with a couple of the girls, they quit & mom has to get to know different girls. I wish the new administration would make it worth the aids time & show them more appreciation for what they do. The ones still around are all wonderful. I love the nurses. They've had to pull a lot of weight due to the head nurse being out on medical leave. They've been doing a great job. Also, the activities director Lucia is soooo good with my mom & other residents. She will always go a little extra to make sure my mom comes out & doesn't just sit in her room. Overall, things are good. Mom has even made a friend or two. I've enjoyed talking & making "friends" with many of the residents. I do like Westmont & hope the new admin can get things worked out & everyone can feel good about working there again. (:

Westmont of Fresno gets 5 stars all the way around except for the value for they money. When I run out of our savings, I have no idea what is going to happen. The staff members at Westmont are great! They take really good care of my loved one. They are all so kind to him and to me. I would recommend this facility to others who are searching.

When we moved my mom into Westmont of Fresno, they were going through a sudden staff change. Some items that they had been working on, such as medication care and laundry, ceased to exist. Although the staff tried to be helpful, it was very stressful trying to figure out who to talk to and who was in charge. Finally, two months in, things have settled. The housekeeping and the facilities are great, but laundry care was hit or miss. My mom has chosen to do her own laundry because, with dementia, any break in routine can lead to an anxiety spiral. The staff has been very patient with my mom during these episodes. Moving into her room was easy and seamless. They gave us the name of a moving company familiar with the facility, which helped. Communication with the family is getting better, but due to staffing issues, it was initially spotty. There was also a problem between the facility and mom's long-term care provider. I had to go into the office because they had not responded to the LTC provider's health questions and her claim was closed. We got that straightened out and it is now in process. I also have contact information for management and nursing if there are any more issues. My mom loves the food and has enjoyed every meal. We've eaten with her a few times and it's always delicious. I would recommend Westmont of Fresno overall. I believe some things, such as communication, can be more streamlined, but overall it has been a wonderful place for our mom.

I was very disappointed in the care my mom received. She fell a couple of times and laid in her room for up to an hour each time. They would only come in to give her meds. Never to just check on her. One night when I was there when she got her dinner, in her room, all she got was corn in all three compartments of her container - she could not eat corn at all. My mom had all her faculties. She did use a walker.

Suggestions for improvement: Better food, much better attention to patients. The staff is never paying attention to patients in pain, leaving patients in urine soaked wheelchairs and beds, not keeping rooms clean. For extremely high charges, etc, etc, I would not recommend this facility to others!!!

The overall experience was horrible. They are constantly losing staff and hiring new. We have no words to express when it comes to the quality of care. It's horrifying the errors they have made over and over with medications and nurse pendant calls taking over 3 hours on two occasions to respond to an emergency call. 50 minutes on average to respond on other occasions. Several calls to Ombudsman regarding this situation. The meals and dining service was very good, but the activities receive a low score because of the understaffing - activities were very rare. I would hate to see another family member experience what we have. Do not recommend Westmont!

Response from Westmont of Fresno
April 18, 2023Westmont of Fresno Resident Service Director, Executive Director and Regional Nurse met with the ombudsman and this family to alleviate any confusion by reviewing policies and procedures regarding medications, pendant calls, and activities. The misunderstandings were resolved to everyone’s satisfaction. We understand that caring for seniors can sometimes be challenging and we endeavor to ensure that all residents are treated with utmost respect, dignity, and care. If an adverse situation occurs we always do our best to ensure the safety of those involved, follow our internal and state protocols and assess the environment for any necessary changes that may need to be made. I toured this community and it was nice overall. It's a big facility and I didn't love the set up, but that's also personal preference. We wanted something small and homey feeling. Pricing was pretty high. For those who prefer a bigger place, it could be a good fit.
I wouldn't recommend Westmont of Fresno to others for their loved ones. The care my loved one receives isn't enough. My loved one has fallen multiple times, and my loved one has had to wait nearly an hour before someone would help them up to their bed on a couple of occasions. The community has provided chicken salad with no dressing for my loved one. There has been times my loved one has only received vegetables for dinner and no starch or main dish.

We chose Westmont of Fresno because they spoke directly to my mother in law during the initial interview and she really liked the look of the facility. I have noticed that sometimes it is hard to get in touch with them, but I know they are short staffed right now just like everybody else is. Overall it has been a good experience and I would recommend them to others.
