The food and food service has been below average. They run out of an item but do not relay this information and sometimes they will substitute while other times do not substitute. They have staffing issues. We have complained, so management is aware of problems. For the activities, slots fill up fast so you may not get the opportunity to join. As for the value for cost, it is a lot of money for residents but staff that provide services are probably not compensated to provide good service. Additionally, billing issues have not been resolved for over a month. You must pay attention to what you are being billed. The amount to be refunded keeps increasing each month.... Read more

My mother has been a Memory Care resident for 2 years, moving in soon after this facility opened. The staff has been extremely caring and helpful, especially through the pandemic that began soon after she moved in. My mom brightens up when she sees a team member in the hallway or lobby. The facility is beautiful. She really enjoys interacting with other residents and team members. During one of my recent visits, I observed a team activity with music and coloring books that was very peaceful and relaxing. Although the last 2 years with the pandemic has been very challenging for everyone, I am very happy with the care my mom receives.. If I do have a concern, I feel comfortable addressing it with the staff. I feel very grateful and confident that my mom is being taken care of at Westerville Senior Living. Although it is not the same as being at home, it is the next best place to call home.

We chose Westerville Senior Living because it was a newer facility and the price compared to the other ones was a lot better for the area. The apartment sizes are good, she has a 1 bedroom and has all the room she needs. She is really enjoying the meals that they serve. We have had no issues and would definitely recommend.

Response from Westerville Senior Living
November 21, 2021Hello Tim, Thank you for your great review of Westerville Senior living. We are so happy our community met your expectations and needs. Please let us know if we can do anything or if questions come up.
This is a very beautiful place. They have friendly service and keep it clean. The staff are kind and accommodating. They can be short staffed. The food seems good, and there are other entrees other than specials if the residents request it. The maintenance time for repairs could be improved.

Response from Westerville Senior Living
October 4, 2021Thank you for your review of Westerville Senior Living. We are happy your time was enjoyable during your visit. We are sorry to hear the maintenance took longer than desired. We make it a priority to take care of our residents’ needs as soon as a request comes in. We will certainly relay your message to our maintenance team. If there is anything else we can do, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
It's a very modern facility and pleasant to be in. Everyone is very friendly, and most of the residents seem very happy. It's clean overall. They've had a bit of a problem with bugs, but it seems like they're getting a handle on it. The staff are very good, although it can take a little bit to get them moving sometimes. They just don't seem to have enough help. Our loved one seems to enjoy the food and is eating plenty of it. However she's diabetic, and they don't have enough diabetic friendly options or information for her. But she seems to be enjoying the activities she's participating in.

This community is not yet 2 years old and there are a lot of maintenance and housekeeping issues. The zoned heating system is not functioning properly and the parking lot lights are on 24 hours per day. Much energy is being wasted. Transportation is a critical issue here. The company needs to hire at least one driver for transport and take that responsibility out of the entertaining and programing department. We need more than 2 days per week for medical transportation. More management coverage is needed since this a 24/7 operation. Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm is not adequate coverage, At times I have a strong feeling that the community leadership is not getting the support and assistance they deserve from corporate. This is a very safe and secure place in which to live and I give Spectrum an A+ for the way they handled the COV19 pandemic. Staffing is a serious problem here which I understand is an industry problem. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write this review.

There needs to be better communication between residents and management.. Transportation is not as advertised. Not enough housekeeping, dining room and maintenance staff. Food is good but recipes need to be followed more consistently.

We have lived both on Assisted and Independent Living. After relaxation of COVID protocols (in accordance with Ohio guidelines) things improved. But within the past 3-4 months, the lack of staffing and slow response to problems has created dissatisfaction. Low staffing in dining, housekeeping, maintenance and most recently transportation and activities is a serious problem. One elevator was out of service for over a month. Outside drainage issues took 3 months to resolve. The lack of an alternative for transportation has caused residents to miss doctors' appointments or spend their one money for handicapped transportation. Overall cleaning of the common areas is finally being addressed. The local staffing performs admirably, but without more staffing, they face an uphill battle. This facility with some focus on staff and transportation issues could easily be a 5 star community.

There are certain things stated in the contract that are not being maintained . Transportation, as the community grows the demand for more travel to Doctors visits will be required.A permeant driver is required. Not limited to two days a week but available 5 days per week. another assistant driver could be limited to 2 days per week for grocery stores or Walmart. Because of the ability to hire waiters, etc. all mgmt. should make themselves available as servers and be able to be cross trained to do what is necessary to make the operation function properly. top mgt. should be out talking to residents daily.

The facility is not providing the services that they promised available. Most activities are lead by residents no staff . Outside activities are cancelled due to unavailable vehicle and drivers . Staff are leaving.. I see staff are doing their best to keep up with their assignments there just is not enough of them .Housekeeping staff limited and do not complete cleaning as promised in my contract.:bi weekly cleaning and bed linen changing. There is also a problem with garage access. I chose this facility because I want access to my vehicle . The entrance and exits to my garage have been locked and require a long outdoor walk to the garages . The facility has had plenty of time to address this situation and correct staying within the COVID guidelines. I will be looking at further Independent facilities if the situation does not improve before the upcoming Winter months . I am looking at a well designed and beautiful facility that is inadequately managed.

When I moved in they were fully staffed, tons of activities, fantastic place. In the last few months every person who was terrific has left to go other places. The trash rooms are filled and disgusting, the carpets are stained and so many really wonderful people have quit to go else where.

September 9, 2021Thank you for the great review of Westerville Senior Living!
We chose Westerville Senior Living at the time because we thought for the money it was a really great place. It just does not seem to be panning out as we thought it would be. The variety and preparation of the food could definitely use some improvement, there also seems to be an inconsistency of the quality as well.

September 9, 2021Thank you for recommending Westerville Senior Living!
We do not have any complaints about Westerville Senior Living. We chose this facility because when we did the virtual tour and drove around, she felt like she would be most comfortable here. They have had a big turnover of staff recently, so we feel like we are starting over. But the new staff have been wonderful, especially with communication. They send letters and they call whenever they need something or want to update us on things. Overall, I would recommend them to other families who are looking.

Response from Westerville Senior Living
October 7, 2020Thank you, Tina, for sharing your experience with us about Westerville Senior Living! We are happy to hear that as a resident you are enjoying the community, your neighbors, team members, and of course the food. If there is anything further our team members can assist you with, please let us know!
visited Westerville Senior Living (WSL) late in 2019, and was assured of the great care he would receive and had a chance to evaluate costs. I knew at the time that I would need to bring my father from Dayton to Westerville to be evaluated so a level of care could be determined. The cost estimate I was given at the time seemed reasonable. During the evaluation where many, many questions were asked about my father and his care, it was determined he would only need Level 1 care. This was in January 2020. Fast-forward to March when we finally were able to get him moved in. Thousands of dollars were spent for the move, deposits and more. Within days, my father become very isolated with very little care for him. He would state no one would see him for many hours. After consultation with the nursing and management staff and other hard financial choices, we agreed to move him to memory care, where I was told he would go to Level 3 care. The concern was at the beginning of the pandemic, my father could not socialize with the staff or other residents, which caused depression and anxiety for my father. I believe without the pandemic, he would not be in the current level care he is now. But we made the choice - and you and I met and signed the forms for this. Now - I am told he is in Level 5 care. No one - I repeat - no one - alerted me to this change of care that was needed and/or required. We have the ability to use the VA for assistance, but the VA was told WSL was taking care of it all. Of course they wanted to take care of it so that they could now charge an extra 1000.00 a month. He went from Level 1 to Level 5 in 3 months. How is this possible? Either the company is purposefully baiting elderly clients and families to relocate there - and then jacking up the prices... OR... they have a severe deficiency in adequately and accurately assessing future residents. I truly believe it may be a combination of both. What is worse, I believe because Spectrum Retirement Communities / Westerville Senior Living is not able to accept new residents (or no one wants to move at this time due to Covid) the company is finding ways to increase the rates of current residents. That would be truly despicable and needs a full investigation. This is unacceptable. What infuriates me the most is that this is all done during a health pandemic, which highly limits the choices that my family can make to safely relocate my father. I would look for another facility.

My husband and I care for his elderly parents living close by in their own home. She has dementia (but believes that she is as capable as she ever was) and he is legally blind (but remains physically active; is fiercely self-reliant; and is anxious about having to learn new ways and faces due to his vision deficit). Because of their declining health, independent living is no longer an option. And should my MIL live long enough she may need memory care services. After investigating area retirement communities for the last few years, my husband and I had selected the top contenders and convinced my in-laws to visit one. My FIL voiced several concerns - and I knew that it was not the best fit - yes, it was a fine community - but it was not the right/best fit. When I met with [name removed] in the Westerville Senior Living sales office and learned about WSL's soon-to-open facility, I knew that I had found what I had been looking for. WSL checked more boxes than their competitors. No, it does not offer skilled care or rehab care..but my in-laws don't need those services. They need the best fit - for right now - and WSL is it. And here is why: * It's pet-friendly...the dog can move with them. * Assisted living 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom (with walk-in showers) units are hard to come by and my in-laws like their own space. WSL's apartment is spacious and beautifully appointed with high-end finishes. It has LARGE CLOSETS with adjustable rods; is flooded with natural light; has plenty of COUNTER TOP SPACE in the bathrooms; AND has a STACKED WASHER AND DRYER IN THE APARTMENT! There is NO STOVE in the kitchenette (which is perfect for my in-laws). The refrigerator/freezer is not full-size but not dorm-size - it's just the right size. * My FIL can continue to garden - year-round - because WSL has a GREEN HOUSE and raised flower beds on the sky deck. * WSL has a simple floor plan and ISN'T TOO BIG which will make it easier for my FIL to learn his way around, even with his vision problem. * If my in-laws make friends with residents living in the independent-living apartments, they will BE ALLOWED TO EAT WITH THEM. * There is a bistro, OPEN 24/7, giving my in-laws every opportunity to eat when they want to eat. * The MOVIE THEATER will be a hit with my MIL. * An on-premise salon (every AL facility I checked into had one) will be a huge convenience. * The exterior is beautifully landscaped and offers lots of paved sidewalks for walking and places for sitting. For me, what I personally like most: * How price-competitive WSL is - their pricing beat or was comparable to others. * Its convenient location (and so close to St. Ann's Hospital). * ALL the residents will be new (no cliques). * Everything is new, thoughtfully designed, and handsomely appointed. Yes, function is everything, but isn't it nice to be both functional AND beautiful? * On-site memory care is available. Shortly after meeting [name removed], executive director [name removed] reached out to me. And then she offered to review my in-laws' LTC insurance policy. Over the 4 years that I have been investigating senior living options for my in-laws, I do not recall anyone ever offering to review their LTC insurance policy. And wouldn't it be lovely to maximize the benefits of that expensive policy? I was impressed that WSL was sensitive to this. I believe that Westerville Senior Living is not only the best fit for my in-laws, but is also a wonderful addition to the Westerville community. If you are considering independent living, assisted living, or memory care for yourself or your loved one/s, I encourage you to investigate Westerville Senior Living.
