Staffing needs to increased, patients need to be clean, the bathrooms need to be cleaned, etc. Care is what matters, not how nice the place looks. Don't go there.

I truly feel that my parents are safe and well cared for at Waltonwood Main. The staff care for them with genuine love and concern daily. My parents LOVE the food and activities. We are also very happy with the new renovations, everything is bright and welcoming.

Waltonwood is a nice place. My mother took a long time to accept her need to be there. My dad acclimated to it rather quickly. He walks every day and greets the staff with hugs and fist bumps. The staff is always willing to help them with whatever they need. The food has changed recently as well as the wait staff. They have both improved quite a bit! We've joined my parents for dinner and found the food to be delicious, the wait staff to be courteous and efficient, and the other residents to be friendly. A gentleman and senior lady approached my parents and pleasantly stated they were senior ambassadors.

Locked doors without a code are troublesome. There's often no one to answer the door. Laundry is not returned in a timely fashion, bathrooms not cleaned, floors not vacuumed regularly. Most of the staff is very friendly, but there are times some people are pushy, especially about masks. Most of the time staff is wonderful, ready to advise, and friendly. However, they are not always timely with medication. Most of the staff is helpful and very good with my loved ones. They seem to connect especially to one of my loved ones more than the other. Again, there are pushy staff members when I go to visit. The kitchen staff is extremely inefficient. This is an area of great concern. Meals are not very appetizing (tough meat, unsavory, etc.). The wait staff is not efficient when taking orders, delivering, or checking on meals. My loved ones eat in the dining room approximately 4 of the 21 meals provided for the week, but we are charged when we want to join them. Number one of the things about Waltonwood that both my loved ones enjoy! They are more affordable than other places I have toured. Kudos- I feel confident overall that my loved ones are cared for and are safe. Other things they're doing well: communication, readiness to improve, management staff (head nurse, staff coordinator, on site manager) all very knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to listen. Aides- ready to help when needed. Response time is appropriate when my loved ones push their buttons. Improvements needed- locked doors seem very unsafe. Office staff that allow entry/exit have short hours. I understand the need for security, but perhaps providing frequent visitors with a code to enter/exit after hours. God forbid a fire would occur! How could they remove all the residents on time? Properly train dining staff to be sure everyone at the table has water, utensils, and receives their meals at the same time. I would, and have, recommended Waltonwood to others. I believe most of their shortcomings are due to staff shortages which is an issue all over. Waltonwood welcomed my loved one with open arms even with their care needs. My loved one is wheelchair bound, has a catheter, and had a rather extensive wound from a foot amputation. My loved one has a visiting nurse that has addressed all of those needs. My loved one's health has improved tremendously since they have been at Waltonwood! The staff have done a great job monitoring my loved one's blood sugar, blood pressure and overall health. My other loved one's dementia has slowed and their countenance has improved greatly since they have been to Waltonwood. At their home, my loved one sat in a dark room all day staring out the window. At Waltonwood, my loved one walks laps (1& 1/2 miles daily), interacts with residents and staff, and has taken part in a few activities. This has really done wonders for my loved one.

This has been an excellent experience for us and our loved one. They have been eager to help right away for the family and our loved one. The staff made it an easy transition for my loved one and they were to assist our loved one with this. The staff communication has been very good with the family. They are very responsive to finding answers out to our questions and concerns.

Our loved one was a resident here before we had to move them due to their care - it was to no fault of the community. He really fell in love with the grounds, all of their outdoor areas were just gorgeous and that really resonated with our love done. It is a very clean facility and all of the staff members were very nice but they did have a fair amount of turnover over on the assisted living side
We chose Waltonwood Main because of the convenient location, I had not heard any bad reviews, and it provided the most personal living space for my parents. Their apartment is around 900 square feet which was bigger than a lot that we looked into. I would recommend to others looking.

Some of the staff was very conscientiousness and good, however some were not. Our loved ones room was adequate, and the food would be about a four out of five. We would recommend this community to others.

We felt their priorities at this community were more about the money, and no matter how much money we spent the quality of the care for the residents would never change. this community was kept fairly clean, and the friendliness of the staff members varied. We did not think this community was worth the money,

My mother, who is 96, has been in assisted living at Waltonwood at Main in Rochester Hills, MI, for the past 18 months. I have not seen her so engaged and active for years. She enjoys the various in-house activities provided for the residents (Bingo, live concerts, live animal presentations), the planned day trips in the greater community (movies, lunches, museums, the zoo, etc.), and the occasional spontaneous summer trips for ice cream. The staff responsible for these activities enjoy working with the residents, and the joy they bring with them is real. The caregivers and med/techs are proactive with regard to her physical safety. They always take the time to talk to family members about any concerns that we or they may have. And they are always patient with us, as well as with the residents, something both essential and appreciated. I think you have to be a very special person to work with the elderly. I know there are special people at Waltonwood at Main.

The patients in the memory unit are excessively medicated and kept isolated from friends. Our aunt went from two medications -to about a dozen. Our relative fell and injured herself on six occasions within a years time. Her room was full of bugs, which administration knew about and said they were "working on it". I would look elsewhere for a place for care.

My loved one was here. It was great in the beginning, but management changed often. They do not pay their caregivers well, have very high turnover. The staffing levels were usually half the amount promised when we moved in. The caregivers are often required to work doubles or six to seven days a week. Especially in memory care where the residents cannot speak up for themselves. A lot of the staff does care, but there are not enough of them to properly care. Management does not fill in to help when short staffed...always an issue on weekends. It is a beautiful facility, DO NOT BE FOOLED by the decor!

We toured this community when we were looking into options for my loved one. This was a nice looking community, and the staff were all very friendly, but it didn't really have the atmosphere we wanted for our loved one. It felt more like a hospital, very sterile, and we were looking for a more home-like atmosphere.

Very nice, cheery. There were a few residents sleeping in their wheelchairs near the front desk, much like I would expect in a nursing home. Leasing agent was knowledgable and friendly; really wanted to get to know about my dad.

A Place for Mom has scored Waltonwood Main 7.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
