Owners are not up to the task of providing safe and caring environment. Moved mom out to a better and safer place in summer 2024. This used to be a [community removed] but care went down in 2024 with new owners.

The Exec Director ("Exec Dir") left in [date removed], following many others who have left after private equity bought it in [date removed]. New management (the interim Exec Dir and now the new Exec Dir, have compromised safety and take no ownership when residents are hurt. Although there is some incredible staff still there, there aren't enough of them left to make this a safe place for mom.

Very average to below average- would not recommend. Care staff not very friendly or responsive. Assistance wait time is unacceptable. Consistently waiting for >1-2 hrs for assistance when calling for help. Think about the fact that many of the residents are 100% dependent on the staff to assist to the bathroom or getting them to dining room. Not patient with people. They are way understaffed. Staff Refuse to wake up a resident after they have called and waited for assistance- wake them up they needed something.

I find Sunrise of Rochester to be a very welcoming community. The staff there really go out of their way to make my dad feel like he's at home.

I would be cautious about going there due to the care staff. They should really train the care givers better. There is too many activities, to list but my loved one never participated in many of them.

I toured this facility and it was a very nice tour. I absolutely loved our tour guide, he was very thorough and personable. The facility itself is a little bit outdated, but it's clean and we liked it overall!

March 1, 2023Hi, Each and every guest who enters a Sunrise community is important to us. It is wonderful to know that you had such a positive experience when touring Sunrise of Rochester!
No one came to welcome, my loved one the day we moved in. The care is ok but they don't seem willing to work on alternative ways to deliver care that is needed. It's fair - they talk good talk but but not a good walk.

Response from Care Cardinal River Oaks
March 1, 2023Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a review of your experience and recommending Sunrise of Rochester. We are pleased to hear that our team has made your experience pleasant!
The biggest concern that we had while our loved one was at Sunrise of Rochester, was that they were giving our loved one 5 times the amount of medication dosage for months and months. Our loved one had lost multiple items and clothing that they were never able to find. When our loved one had covid they kept her sedated to keep her in her room. The staff were amazing but the upper management was just atrocious .

They've been very receptive to our family and have tried to meet our needs. I think they could use more staff than they have currently. But overall, It's a lovely facility, and the people are very friendly.

September 13, 2022Hi Diane, Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Rochester and the dedicated care givers and team members. Our residents are part of the Sunrise family and we take enormous pride in having the privilege to take care of them.
Sunrise of Shelby Rochester was in our top 3, I really liked this facility. The reason we did not go with them was because of the way their pricing was set up. It was "al a carte" so they had a base fee and then things like medication, showers, etc. were all an add on fee which would end up being too expensive. The staff were great with following up with us after the tour.

We had a great tour with Sunrise. The guy who gave us the tour was super friendly and really knew his stuff. The living space was too small for my parents and there was also a large staircase in the lobby that we were nervous was going to be a hazard for my dad.
This community was okay to me I just did not like the fact that the memory care unit was on the fourth floor. I wanted my loved one to be on the ground floor.
They keep my loved one very busy. She is eating more there than she did living by herself. This community is very inviting and clean great place if you are looking for somewhere for your loved one. They have a lot of activities like crosswords, exercises and arts and crafts.

We chose Sunrise based on everything I gave a 5 too, the cleanliness, friendliness of staff, and at the time they were offering a promotional price that fit our budget. They are very visitor friendly and we appreciate that. Our only complaint is that they do have a lot of turnover in staff, so the meals are taking longer to get to the residents, sometimes they are waiting 45 minutes to an hour to get to their meals. Overall I would recommend to others.

Our tour here was great. The facility was great, just out of our price range. I liked the location. I liked that they had different care options at different price points. From what I could see on the virtual tour, the room would have been perfect. It seemed like an easy flow, and it also kind of felt like a home instead of a hotel room or a room in a hospital. We really liked it there. It was just out of our price range when you added on level of care to the rent.
Helpful information from staff; in-house health staff; many services for aging in place; well maintained facility; big community for care of people.

Parking not good for guests, set back off Crooks with a calm entry, people all very cheerful and positive, have pets roaming, visited at lunch time and very busy but positive energy everywhere. Currently 18 residents in memory care, 1/2 in wheelchairs 1/2 not. Ability to go outside and secured. 6:1 ratio care and supervision. Nurses on site for med administration and emergencies. In the middle of a remodel. Should be done in a couple months. Day - Prepare for day, dress, breakfast, exercise, activity, lunch, down time, crafting, snack. Routine helps with Sleep/wake cycle. Move in fee $2000, special to $1,000 during renovation. 3 room sizes available, approx $6,400 +/- depending on room

This facility was run down and weirdly designed. The operation looked sloppy and poorly managed. On the memory care floor, people were stacked up shoulder to shoulder in front of the community TV. Not for us.

A Place for Mom has scored Care Cardinal River Oaks 7.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
