The Village at Waveny

My mother has made some great friends and she is looked after by a very caring staff. The Village at Waveny's clinical communications to me about my mom's care have been excellent.

Beautiful & great programs but Dad probably wouldn't qualify & it's too pricey for his needs. He would probably sit & watch at most.

The staff turnover is again happening. Lots of new administrator. Lots of new private CNA/HHA/Companions. Pay to resident-touching-staff is too low. How can they pay all these administrators? Where is the Board of Directors in oversight? Losing both Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer at the same time just about GUARANTEES a major turnover problem in 2019 The only way they have 4 stars is the nice building and lack of bad smell compared to the competition.

Everyone in the center couldn't be better. They are good, patient, lovable and very caring. It shows that they are all carefully selected to work at the facility. You would think the residents were family to them. It says it all. I doubt any place can top Waveny.

Waveny was suggested by a good friend and expert in eldercare. She said Waveny was the BEST choice for memory care. She was right! From my first visit to the many months of care my husband has received, everyone at Waveny has been professional, positive, welcoming, supportive, creative in their caregiving. I could not ask for a better solution!

The food needs some upgrading - not so good.

Our mother has been a resident of the Village at Waveny. We have been blessed to have so many people take care of her! The kindness, care, and patience of the staff have been excellent!!

I heard so many good things about the village but was a little disappointed. It was clean and had plenty of activities, food was great. However there was a lack of communication between employees, and a lack of basic customer service. I had to mention numerous times before my loved grooming issues got fixed. Each time mentioning it to a different person. The messages never got passed to the correct person, no one ever took charge of the issue. No one ever addressed it till about the 3rd or 4th time i mentioned it. The cost is so much they need to work on customer service. Lack of employees helping out. Getting anyone to return my call took a while. When my loved one moved in lack of any welcoming or anything, details overlooked. Now they recently replaced a few employees so maybe that will help. Overall its clean, food is good, activities good. Needs better attention to details, and better communication between employees, needs better customer service.

Really, really the best facility around BUT the longer I visit the more I see The staff turnover is increasing, some I don't miss, but others were valuable assets. Needs more Senior parking because all the employees are parking there now. The Village meals have become less attractive. Residents meal tabs have requests and dislikes...but it is all meaningless. The Director of Dining should eat daily in the various dining rooms. The Keurig coffee maker in each kitchen is never used (since the staff drank all the initial coffee) Who is to provide the coffee? And, in the past year, I have never seen anyone doing resident laundry. Now the laundry door is locked. During pleasant weather, some outdoor activity should be encouraged. A little vitamin D is healthy. So, I wonder: If I see these shortfalls how come no one else sees them?

I am very pleased with The Village at Waveny. I have no complaints at all. It has been a positive experience. The staff has been wonderful over the phone. They keep me updated about my loved one. They always answer my phone calls and let me know everything. Everything has been going smoothly. They have been very friendly and professional. They are great.

After a period of rehab after Mom broke her pelvic bone, it was determined by the Waveny Care Center staff that Mom should no longer be in independent living. The transition to the Village was seamless. The team there is experienced with both the elderly with dementia/Alzheimers, and the family grappling with the awful disease and the changes in their loved one's memory and demeanor. They walked me through it. Mom has been there over 3 years and is happy, content, and for the most part, worry free. I know that she is in a safe environment, which was a tremendous relief. Each person with the disease presents differently and The Village works with each resident in a personalized way. The nursing staff, the aides, the recreational therapy team, the housekeeping and maintenance staff, are all happy, gracious individuals who make my mother's life, and my own, so much more rewarding than I could have otherwise imagined. More specifically, Mom has her own room and bathroom which are kept spotless, as is the entire facility. There is a walled garden with paths and a gazebo. Main Street, which is bright and airy has many of the organized activities which might include part of the Norwalk Symphony orchestra, a band, a piano player, a dog show, the high school football team, themed parties almost every week. Music, always music, which is calming, soothing and enjoyable. I wholeheartedly give The Village 5 stars.

Several years ago, our Mom was diagnosed and we enrolled her into the Waveny day program. At first she was totally against going but within a week she wanted to attend everyday. Within a few months she was unable to stay alone in her apartment and was thrilled to find that she could stay at the Village. She felt welcomed immediately and safe. She started to tell us that she felt like a queen, which made us feel at ease. The Village staff are extremely friendly, polite and go that extra mile for the care of not only Mom, but the family as well. We never felt that we were just putting Mom in a home, but into another way of life style with the many activities going on on a daily basis. Not only is it beautiful but when we visit Mom, we enjoy it so much we don't even want to leave. So thank you to all staff members. We appreciate and are grateful to all that you do in helping Mom enjoy her next chapter.

I have never found the monthly activity calendar online. Where is it? I get one mailed to me, but would like to access it on line. The weekly meal menu is not online, only in print form at the care facility. I would like it talk to my "resident" about her meal! but her memory is faulty. These are 2 opportunities for me to converse with my mother and I would like to have them at my finger tips.

My mother is very well cared for here. Nurses are knowledgeable and compassionate; they really know her and her needs. The aides are terrific; each of them is cheerful and kind. They seem to be very well suited to their roles. The atmosphere is one of respect for what each caregiver contributes. The lead RN in the memory unit is forward thinking and has a thorough knowledge of the field. The activities are varied and permit residents of various abilities to be engaged.

We were very impressed with the quality of the facility at the Village and the care and attention that was given to my mother. The rooms are bright and well designed and there are a wealth of activities. Even though my mother became more difficult as her memory issues worsened, the staff was extremely patient with her and went to great lengths to see that she was happy.

Our mom, who is 96, has been attending Waveny Day Care facility for the past year. When she comes home she always tells us how wonderful her day was. We believe this has added a new joy and dimension to her life. We found the people and the staff at Waveny extremely professional, dedicated, friendly, and attentive to her needs. One can say they are almost like family. The facility in general offers many different programs and activities to the people who attend. There's a warmth about Waveny that goes well beyond any institutional setting. Initially, we were very apprehensive about what to expect, but we are glad we made the choice, as it has been a wonderful experience for mom. We have also taken advantage of the Respite service at Waveny on various occasions, which again, we were apprehensive about as mom would be away from home for a week at a time, but this proved to also be a good experience for her. As in the Day Care there was always a lot to do that kept her occupied and the staff, as always, were very attentive to her needs. Barbara & Fred

The staff at Waveny are welcoming, kind and professional. The memory care facility is lovely and the food great! My mother was cared for with dignity and kindness. She enjoyed the activities in her own quiet way - but joined in when the discussion turned to Perry Como, the singer!

As soon as we walked into The Village At Waveny, it was obvious immediately that it would be the perfect Assisted Living setting for mom. The environment was so cheerful and happy! The Village became her home for several years until she required a greater level of care. Mom received the most extraordinary care at The Village, and our family slept well at night knowing that mom was safe, happy, and in the loving hands of The Village staff- a group of exceptional people who give their utmost each day to the residents there and to their families as well. What a blessing it has been to have had the The Village At Waveny and it's staff become a part of our lives.

Knowing that she was somewhere safe, not alone, and that her medications were being managed professionally was a huge relief. This respite stay was the first time in her life that she stayed anywhere besides her own home, or at home with family. It was her first introduction to Assisted Living, and we know that both the experience and Waveny's loving staff really helped pave the way for her to be much more willing to move into Assisted Living permanently later that year.
