VERY SATISFIED

My Dad was only in the Villages at Mission for 5 1/2 months before his passing, but we were very satisfied with his care. One incident I like to tell is when he took a little fall and scraped his arm. Once alerted, there were 5 people in that room within 2 minute taking his vitals and treating his wound. Unfortunately, he complained about it every meal, but we think he lost his tastebuds, because the food we all tried was very good and plenty of it. His little fridge always had ice cream in it. He spoke highly of the staff and how good they were to him. There was one of his 7 children visiting nearly every day and from what we saw, we did not have to worry about him or his care.... Our Live with Purpose programming offers a variety of activities designed to achieve memory enrichment and positive social interactions. Caring for residents with dementia is a partnership between the community and the family, frequent family visits are encouraged and support groups and advisory councils are arranged. Mom's new Home

From the first contact with The Village at Mission, we felt at ease. Their primary concern was the care and comfort of our Mom. The facility looked great, and future plans are promising. We truly made the right choice for our Mom.

Terrible experience

Pushing the help call button and it's been over an hour and nobody has shown up. Nurse on duty was 45 minutes late with medication and returned 2 hours later to administer medication that was scheduled every 4 hours and kinda argued about the time. Ovesely she didn't have the ability to read instructions on the computer. We do not recommend this place.

A good place overall.

I base my answers partly on how my sister feels about being there. Staffing and care depends on who is there. She says there are some really good care givers, others not so much. Those that I have met seem very nice and helpful, which may be the ones she appreciates that are there. Food seems to be an issue with her. Think she determines how good it is on how much better my cooking is, lol. She has said the chicken always gives her diarrhea, so she tries not to have that. To me when I've been there at meal time, it usually looks good and smells good. But I know food is usually most people's complaint. Not sure if she can choose from a separate menu or not? She's not much of a people person so activities she refuses to partake in. Overall cost for what she gets, I feel it's pretty reasonable. Due to her care level -3- she needs assistance for toilet and bathing. They do her laundry weekly and clean her room. I have no complaints regarding what they have to do for her and know her personality is not always pleasant, so they probably deserve what they get paid to deal with her type of patient. My overall assessment of The Village is I think it's a great place! I referred my good friend to get her mom moved there and think she is far more pleased with them than where she was. I'm happy my sister is there and overall ok with this as a good place for her to be.

Highly recommended, great staff, wonderful facility

We loved Village at Mission. My friend had to move because she needed memory care and it was just too expensive for her here. The staff and everyone was fantastic while she was here. We had no complaints what-so-ever. It is a lovely place that we would highly recommend to anyone.

Great facility

My mom is 95 years young. She moved to The VIllages at Mission in respite care and decided to stay in an assisted living apartment. She's been here 5 months and so far so good. Great experience from the moment you walk in the door. The staff is fantastic and so caring. There is always a big adjustment when you are used to living alone but she has done well. [name removed]is not only understanding she was able to offer suggestions about the move that helped eveything go smooth. I can't say enough good about her. [name removed]and the nursing staff are fabulous and are very responsive. Everyone communicates with me. I have received phone calls and text messages if there is something I need to know. The aides, housekeeping, dining room, activities and I could just keep on going about how great they all are. You can feel how much they care about the residents. It has been a wonderful experience and I highly recommend The Villages at Mission to anyone needing a place to call home.

Relatively new resident

We chose The Villages at Mission because we were in a hurry to make a decision and they had availability when we needed it. The location was also close to his address and would be the most convenient for me when I came in to stay. At the time, I compared it to two others and this was the only facility that had accessible green space which was the most important thing for us. His room also looks out to a green space. I would recommend them to others looking with some reservations - I think they are still making a lot of changes since they were recently bought out. I think the changes they are making are all for the good.

My review of Brighton Gardens

We chose Brighton Gardens of Prairie Village because it was close to my aunts home. The room sizes here are a little on the smaller side compared to some others that we saw. She said the food has been ok so far. The best part about the community so far has been the staff, they are very informative. I can easily call down there and get information quickly and they are helpful they help her when she wants to call me. I would recommend the community.

Care

The care was not what we were told it would be! Memory Care was amazing and the staff was fantastic with the care my mother received. The staff on the assisted side was never to be found and the nurse who was in charge, [name removed], was incompetent! Surprised she is in the role she was in! Would not recommend!

Very disappointed

My mother was a patient in their rehab unit in the middle of Feb. She received horrible care. She has chronic diarrhea part of the reason she had been in the hospital and had not been given her medicine for 4 days. When I asked the nurse he would not look and me and just said they were still waiting on it and didn't know why she had to have the certain kind. I said it was drs orders and had we been notified we would have gotten the medicine. He never apologized or even got up out of his chair. She did not receive a bath the entire week she was there. Now I see they have had multiple COVID patients and deaths. No surprise. Staff would cross train which I get but they would help my mom to bathroom with norovirus and wearing their kitchen apron and then got back to kitchen. I have been a nurse for over 35 years and have never been so disappointed. Especially with the nurse that wouldn't even get up out of his chair. Luckily we got my mom out of there within the week and transfered her to a wonderful facility in Shawnee. She is home and doing well. My heart breaks for the other patients.

Failure to Communicate Covid -19

My siblings and I removed our mother from Brighton Gardens 10 days ago because this place is a “hotbed” for the Coronavirus and management hid the risk from residents and their families! The executive director failed to properly communicate via email and phone with us . Thank goodness for the Freedom of Information Act and the Johnson County Health Department - otherwise our mother might not be alive today! When we got the true number of positive cases and swathes, we confronted the ED, but were told that she didn’t know how many cases had been identified at BG. We told her how many cases that BG (she) had reported to JCHD and then she admitted they had a problem. Because none of us lives in KC, it took us 2 days to move our mother out of BG. Trust is an important quality we look for when we consider a long term care provider. I hope others will consider this and failure to communicate when looking at BG. I would have rated BG a “0” if it was an option.

Finally a Care Facility that results in Life improvements!

We finally found a place for my wife`s sister at Brighton Gardens after her physician and multiple psych hospital admissions and multiple Assisted Living facilities recommended she be placed in a facility that has both assisted living ( memory care) and a skilled nursing facility on the same campus...she has made remarkable improvements since coming to Brighton Gardens....we think she has finally found her HOME,,Thanks....

Abandoned

This is just a review of the rehab facilities. My father was sent here from the hospital after a bout of pneumonia. They never respond to the nurse button. This is our fourth day. We pushed the button 25 minutes ag6. Still waiting. There is currently a woman across the hall calling "will someone please help me!" No response. I can't leave my father because of his dementia or I would help the poor woman. Don't send your loved ones here.

My Father's Journey @ Brigton Gardens, Prairie Village

About a year ago, we moved my Father into Brighton Gardens in Prairie Village, Kansas. We came from Park Meadows, a Spectrum product because they didn't have the staff, expertise or willingness to manage my Father's Assisted Living care properly. I say this only because we knew what we were looking for. I will say, that BG-PV is where we found the most caring, compassionate folks. They have taken care of my Father with dignity, love and grace. Service begins with the aids and support staff, all of whom showed love and care. This continued with the dining staff, reception and the administrative staff. Their team was proactive in determining the level of care and really made us feel at home, like part of their family. My Dad's journey has now ended, but my appreciation for BG-PV will continue. It was a loving community that took care of my Father in the most dignified way. For that we are eternally greatful. Thank you BG-PV !!!!!!!

Let the good times roll.

I just finished listening to some great blues and decided it was high time that I sat down and wrote a letter of thanks to Brighton Gardens, an Assisted Living facility in Prairie Village, KS. You see the blues gig took place right there at Brighton Gardens where there is a whole lot of living going on! The decision to move yourself or your loved one into assisted living is not an easy one. However, the years of playing Pro football finally took its toll on my husband's body and made us realize that living at home was no longer an option. Our first attempt at assisted living was disastrous. The highlight of the day was to circle the wheelchairs around an atrium and watch the birds fly. We were depressed and discouraged. But then I walked into the Marketing Office of Brighton Gardens. The minute the young lady opened her mouth I felt a sense of home. As we toured the facility I observed a genuine friendliness amongst the staff and the residents. I could tell that they were sincere in the care and compassion they were offering to all. They even had a resident rescue dog! This would be the place where my husband would feel comfortable and safe. Kudos to the receptionists who always greet me with a warm welcome. Kudos to the Activities Director and staff who are, in my opinion, the best in the land. Kudos to the Finance Comptroller who makes the payment process transparent. Kudos to the Marketing Director who got us settled in with ease. Kudos to the Nursing Staff who make sure my husband's health needs are met. And then last, but not least, kudos to the caregivers who provide much needed tender loving care 24 hours a day. I spend almost every day at the facility so my thoughts are based on observation and experience. The demand for assisted living care is at an all time high. The job can often be stressful, unappreciated and underpaid. Yet the folks at Brighton Gardens can seldom be seen without a smile on their face. Our warmest regards to everyone. IF YOU'RE IN THE MARKET FOR A HOME WHERE THE GOOD TIMES ROLL THEN I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BRIGHTON GARDENS IN PRAIRIE VILLAGE.

Brighton Gardens 6 months review

I am a Guardian for an Elderly Woman with early onset Dementia. I moved her in over 6 months ago. We had a few problems in the beginning but the staff was very responsive to the needs of my loved one and the relationship keeps getting better. They took the time to get to know her. Great activities, lots of music. Not a big fan of the food, but the seniors seem to like it.

Brighton Gardens..a special place

I have recently read some poor reviews about Brighton Gardens of Prairie Village regarding medical care issues. I was sorry to read that some people had bad experiences there. I work in the industry and also have a loved one at BG. Unfortunately, I have found that medical care problems are found in all health care facilities whether they are senior living facilities or hospitals. Both humans and computers are not perfect and sadly mistakes are made sometimes. Since no place is perfect, I wanted to write about all the areas that I have found to be better at BG than anywhere else in town. The concierge team that covers the front desk are personable, friendly and extremely helpful. They greet you as you enter the building and set a friendly, welcoming tone immediately. I have been in other facilities where the front desk people scowl and make you feel very unwelcome. [Removed] in Sales performs her job from her heart. She visit my loved one in the hospital and helped me transfer my loved one from the car into the building when I needed help. She knows all the residents and families and helps foster a sense of extended family and community within the building. I know of no other marketing person in the area that performs their job that way. (She also sings like an angel and performs concerts...even sang to an upset resident to help calm him down.) [Removed] has taken the Activities position and created a department of staff who provide ongoing activities throughout every area of the building each day. (Other facilities usually just have one person doing the job, not a staff.) Where other facilities may have 2 activities a day, [Removed] has at least 8 activities daily. She has live musical entertainment weekly and is so community minded that she even has a weekly bus ride for the memory care residents to deliver meals on wheels. She has residents help make blankets for local pet shelters and helps the elderly residents feel like they are still contributing to the community in many ways. The maintenance staff are seen circulating the building daily in an effort to keep the building running smoothly. They are friendly and always willing to help residents and families with any building problem. The care managers of each unit try their hardest to see that their residents are well looked after. Their hearts are in the right place even when things don't go well. As I said previously, no place is perfect. But the atmosphere at BG still remains an atmosphere that is family and pet friendly and breeds a strong sense of community.
