any issues were always addressed

With all of these scores at times some categories were as low as 1 or 2. We developed a very strong working relationship with Director of Nursing and CNAs. When we had issues ( with Care and there were several) they were always addressed and our dissatisfaction was highly validated and support. Turnover is always a problem with staff. A few of the CNAs were excellent and went above & beyond and then others were sub par. Overall at times it felt like they were short staffed for resident care. Best Place for Mom

We are so fortunate that when we were faced with finding a new living situation for Mom, that a Place for Mom was able to assist with referrals and schedule appointments for us. We interviewed 3 places in Cumming and just had a gut feeling that this would be the best choice. Mom moved into the memory care section of the assisted living center and immediately began to improve and thrive! The staff treats her like family and she is always clean, dressed and involved in activities. She loves playing bingo and as she turns 91 this weekend, we are convinced we would not still have her with us if not for the love and care the Phoenix at James Creek provides. Thank you to everyone who gives Mom the life, care and support she deserves and needs.

The best place for dad!

We were so blessed to find Phoenix. From day one they went the extra mile to make sure dad got settled and his meds were correctly prescribed and administered. We had a couple hiccups, for sure, getting him settled but Phoenix stuck with him and worked to get everything the way it should be and never made us feel like he was going to get kicked out putting stress on my mother like other places have done. They went the extra mile to assist with the transition and have been there for my dad and my mom too as the spouse living apart. The facility is clean and welcoming, the staff are friendly and supportive. We have had a 5 star experience so far.

Disappointing experience

While the property presents well they are understaffed in many areas. Food service was slow and often cold by the time my father's table was served. Med techs seemed to be exhausted and did not listen to my father's or my concerns. He spent 45 minutes on the floor because nobody responded to his medical alert device. Not a good experience and I have discouraged others from using their facilities.

We like the activities specifically designed for memory care residents. We like the care and attention some of the caregivers provide. We like that the Pearl director follows up on concerns and that the Nurse Prac. Is very skilled and knows exactly how to best care for my mother.

It varies with the staff at The Phoenix at James Creek. During the day the staff was kind, the night shift they were not as attentive and kind. Housekeeping was overall okay. Not super impressive, but not bad. They told us that they would give us a microwave and that never happened. It took a while to get things going like helping my mom shower. Mom loved vegetables and it was always the same canned vegetables, so not much much variety there. She wanted a different kind of juice and it was always the same strawberry kiwi mix, which she got tired of. But overall, the food was good. I would recommend this facility.

Our Experience

The staff seemed very friendly in my experience. Housekeeping seemed to be good in the facility, but I don't know if they spent much time in my mother's room. Communication with the family was good if the facility was trying to contact me, but not always if I was trying to call someone at the facility. Move I process seemed to be fine. The meals were probably the biggest disappointment. I was not impressed by what I heard about the meals.

The Phoenix Review

Most of nurses and kitchen staff was friendly. When my loved one did not feel well and go to the dining room her food was really late coming to her room. It was rarely what she ordered. She does eat red meat and it was usually meat they brought. Meals were not very healthy and lacked variety. My loved one fell the first day she was there. My sister pulled her nurse cord and it took an hour for nurse to come. This happened several times. Pull the nurse cord and takes a while for nurse to respond, Especially at night. Complained to Director and didn't hear any apology. The batteries one time were not working on the pull cord. Her room was supposed to be cleaned once a week sometimes that did not happen. Her laundry was messed up and no one apologized. They washed all her clothes together and her jeans turned all her white clothes blue and messed them up.

Do not go to Phoenix.

Overall experience was terrible. My wife died [date removed]. The Phoenix did not cause her death but surely contributed. The cleanliness was ok. The friendliness of the staff was awful. They lie and do not care for the residents. The quality of care was poor. Lack of training and motivation. Meals and dining service was ok. With the activities there was little participation so cannot judge. Nice brick and mortar but the care is terrible. We left after 6 weeks and would not recommend this facility to anyone.

A nice community with lots of great activities and wonderful staff

There are a lot of activities and involvement of the family. The caregivers are awesome and care so much for the clients. The temp. Staff who fill in are not as well trained and so that is the only time we have to watch to make sure our mother is cared for properly.

Saddened and disappointed

As someone in the business industry for over 20 years, I am well aware that strong businesses are built on a firm foundation of culture, communication and partnerships. That should be even more so the case when the business is based on the care of a fragile population such as memory care patients. That is why I am shocked and disappointed by the poor leadership of the Management of the Phoenix of James Creek. We were forced to deal with a series of bad decisions, untruths, and excuses rather than ownership, accountability and two-way communication. Good leadership is hard; however, when it is for your loved one, it is required. For this reason, I cannot recommend this facility at this time. Hopeful it will change.

Tour experience

Everyone very friendly on the Phoenix tour and saw lots more activities going on. We loved that place. Would have picked them but only room available was a studio. We wanted a one bedroom. And especially after she went on hospice the two separate rooms was really nice to have with visitors.

We do really like the state of the art with this facility that is a huge plus. However they do seem understaffed at times so the quality of the meals is not that good, the meals are served cold and sometimes the dining service is really slow. Hello Steve, we appreciate you taking the time to leave us this feedback. We could serve the residents faster; however, meals are a social time for them to interact and we try not to rush them through dining. Our meals also come out fresh and hot from the kitchen and do not sit out or under heat lamps where they may get cold. I would be happy to discuss your concerns and how we can improve their overall dining experience. I look forward to hearing from you, Matt
