The Haven and The Laurels in the Village at Carolina Place

My husband and I have had a very pleasant experience admitting his father to The Laurels. The professionalism and kindness displayed by the entire staff is nothing less than phenomenal! When we first entertained the idea of placing my father-in-law in The Laurels, we were met by one of the kindest and very professional sales and marketing individuals. Her name is [name removed]. [name removed] calmed our fears of Dad being in a new environment by giving us a tour of their facility, taking our phone calls with additional questions, and then meeting us on more than one occasion to help us complete forms. [name removed] was an angel in disguise for us! What a professional woman she is! Personally, I have had quite a few years of experience in the long-term care industry and wish I/we could give 10 stars instead of the limit of 5 stars to [name removed] and the staff at The Laurels. I have seen all kinds of facilities and have experienced various nursing teams with other family members in other state

It was so fun and a beautiful place. They do a good job with events and taking care of the older adults and more. [name removed] & [name removed] do a great job! I was looking for my mother in possibly moving to memory care.

My husband moved to The Haven a short time ago but we already feel like family. Very caring staff. I highly recommend The Laurel and The Haven! They do a good job everyday ; especially [name removed] and [name removed]

I flew to CA with my wife and 2 sons to bring my widowed mom to the Laurels. After she had lived in the same house for over 60 years, imagine her and my trepidation moving across the country for the next stage in both our lives. It was the best thing for her and my immediate family - and my siblings. Aloof and reclusive by nature, my mom found the staff to be patient and kind. The residents have been wonderful to her too. I have peace of mind knowing she gets sensitive and welcoming care at the Laurels. The facility is modern and comfortable. My mom says the food is great, like the staff. Residents have the opportunity to make each room his/her own, including hanging a bird feeder outside the bedroom window.

My grandfather is at the Haven. He has absolutely thrived being there! He’s become the social butterfly with everyone!! The Havens provides him with everything he needs from meals, activities and socializing!

Very supportive group of people. They are flexible with folks who have to work and get all the paperwork done for them. Facility is beautiful. Food is well presented. Flexible with substitutes.

Nice, Clean facility. Staff is kind and caring for residents. [name removed] and [name removed] do a superb job keeping my mom involved in as many activities as possible. They vary those activities so that no one gets bored doing the same things -- except, of course, those that they truly enjoy. Like Bingo and Jeopardy! Chef [name removed] does a wonderful job with the meals -- quite tasty and varied.

[name removed] was very welcoming, he took his time to show my family and I around the community. He was very informative and transparent about everything for this big stepping stone in transitioning my parents into a senior living community. I feel confident that they will be taken care of. This is their home away from home

Very pleasant and comfortable facility, very pleasant atmosphere and lunch was very delicious and filling, observed residents engaged in bingo and watching a movie, some were outside enjoying the sunshine and warm weather.

The community is centered on family and care. Every time I visit, they ensure that I feel warm and welcomed. Their hospitality is unparalleled, making it an excellent workplace and an even better place to bring your loved ones. [names removed] are exceptional individuals, always willing to go the extra mile for any family. Truly remarkable people.

I would recommend The Laurels. The executive Director and activity personnel are excellent. The residents are extremely welcoming and friendly.

My loved one was previously a resident at The Haven at Carolina Place. Everything about The Haven at Carolina Place, the facility and the staff, was great. However, the management was so poor that it detracted from everything else.

skin dry on legs no lotion, constant turn over of staff. They stopped therapy because she could not follow the command (memory loss). At our home the therapist would take her by the hand and show her what the activity was. The cost is high and it went up [amount removed] in a year. Visit often, talk with the workers. Do not fear speaking up you are paying for this service. Clothes get missing .

They accepted my mother for AL fully aware of her abilities and assured me she was an excellent fit. From the moment she moved in, however, they treated her with nothing but disdain. One nurse in particular was an absolute nightmare and when I reported her for being overly aggressive and cruel it was laughed off as "that's just how she is." The residents seem to all stay in their room, the atmosphere was heavy and it's like the staff had this big secret but no one would say anything. When I would go to visit I would get glared at and it was extremely uncomfortable. She was accepted to another facility at the same time but I chose here. I will forever regret that decision. We were promised that their staff had all of the tools on hand to help so I happily wrote the check. Clearly that's all they wanted. It took three weeks for her to even be evaluated for rehab and by week four she left in an ambulance in worse condition than when she moved in. Absolutely horrible experience.

My loved one is a current long time resident at The Haven and The Laurels in the Village at Carolina Place. The friendliness and quality of care are great. The cleanliness is good. The activities and value for cost are good, also. However, there have been so many changes in management since my loved one moved into this facility. The actual staff that works with the residents are incredibly good. The new office management staff is still too soon to tell, but slow to answer questions and resolve issues.

We had an awful experience and I removed my family member from their care after 10 days. There were one or two employees who actually cared for the residents the remainder were aggressive, rude or not attentive at all, I would never recommend someone use this facility. The nurses were TERRIBLE, if I could give a 0 I would. There was NO care in patient care. Most meals were inedible, over salted and not cooked fresh. They were brought over from another facility and were rarely even warm. I had to bring food in for my family member. There was an activity program but it seemed so childish for grown adults. This facility has no value

They really sell this place when you visit! But once you move in all is forgotten. We were told so many things that changed after move in. They were able to bully us to move my loved one to the more expensive building without one of us present at the assessment. If I had time to think it through I would have asked them to change the meds and it would have been fine. The staff has changed so many times I can't count. VERY short staffed and they are always eating and chatting with each other. Especially one of the men working in the food and service area. You can walk by and they don't stop the chatting. Now a few of the staff are very good and very helpful but the majority are not. I am starting to look for someplace else but my loved one is happy there (memory care). Food is ok and very little activity other than bingo.

People turn over majority leaving or have left. Staff shortages. Bath room had water puddles on three different occasions. Finally explained to someone who got maintenance involved. Most very helpful, polite, and courteous. Clothes match, and are clean. She appear content . She does not verbalize every thing well. Her expression towards help when they are talking with me tell the story. She is a very good eater. Only a few occasions have I seen food left on dish. The staff is short so there is no one to sit and help her play bingo if families do not. The ball toss she was not participating. I wish she could become more involved. She enjoy the outings. Value of cost could be better. Some little things should be included.

LOVE LOVE LOVE The Haven and The Laurels. There is a major difference in quality compared to other places in same price range - anything better facility wise was almost $3000 higher per month. I would 100% recommend this facility, especially with the cleanliness of the facility and the nursing staff.

There really are so many things that made this place atrocious.
