I was looking for a place to lite, when I came across the El Dorano independent living facility. I was greeted warmly, treated with great respect and had an overall awesome experience. I settled on this place because it felt like home. [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], and the rest ofstaff, are very helpful, kind overall awesome. The residents are from all walks of life, and they make you feel very welcome. When it comes down to it, this place is like home.... Read more

Lovely quiet apartments in Richardson Tx. The management really care about their residents. The necklace they wear has GPS so if they get lost anywhere in the USA (maybe the world) they can call for help and be found. Three hot meals a day in the dining room or your own apartment. If nursing care should be needed temporarily it is available. If one forgets to take their medicine or needs Physical therapy it is available in house for an additional fee. The apartments vary in size and layout so the prices vary.

We have been living in The El Dorado community for almost 1 1/2 years. We lease two apartments for two family members. The staff have all been so kind and pleasant. I can't imagine living anywhere else. Each person on staff really knows all the residents and genuinely seem to care. They always try to get you what you want. I don't think I have ever heard them say NO. They have a "can do" spirit and they are a joy to know.

A few years ago this was a nice independent living residence. Now it seems to be leaning toward becoming an assisted living for seniors. This is having an impact on the seniors that are "really independent" and they feel obligated to assist when they really don't feel they should. I think this will gradually affect the establishment in the future!

Response from The El Dorado
July 7, 2020Hello, thank you for your review. We regret that you have not been satisfied with your experience at our community and appreciate you sharing this feedback.
A+ for housekeeping each week. Common areas kept clean. Annual carpet cleaning. Staff friendly and helpful. 3 meals per day, not not as good as when I moved 3 years ago. No lift on bus. This is the 4th place I've lived and all had lifts. Bad.

This community is very caring. They treat residents with respect. Many activities are available to choose from. The food is good and there is a good variety to choose from.

Friendly staff. Liked the Great Call provided to each resident. The 24x& on premise Home Health Care staff was excellent, which would allow transition to assisted living without moving from unit. The facility was clean and fresh. Nice choice of 10 floorplans for 1 bedroom units. All inclusive with cable TV, Internet.

was very overwhelmed by the sales representative, was at a low point in life and felt pressured to sign a contract. Sales representative convinced me to sign but when I called the next day he said there was no cancellation of contract so I am being forced to pay a month's rent and never moved in. Needless to say NOT IMPRESSED WITH THE EL DORADO.

This retirement community hasn't been remodeled in decades and it's obvious when you look around at the decor. The question is- where else are they cutting corners if they won't simply give the walls a fresh coat of modern paint or update the early 1980s decor? Another red flag was the current salesperson. Be sure to write down what she says El Dorado and the parent company offer and then double check this with current residents and/or the parent company, Holiday Retirement. For example, the current salesperson made us think that only one unit was currently available (the most expensive within our price range, of course). After sending in another unrelated person we learned that they're were several less expensive units available. The current salesperson will also claim that residents of El Dorado can stay at any of the the other Holiday Retirement properties around the country. However, what she won't tell you is it's nearly impossible to find another Holiday property with an available guest suite! Just check reviews for Holiday Retirement or call them yourselves. Another issue to take into consideration is the transportation they offer. The salesperson will make you believe that El Dorado has transportation available 7 days a week to take residents to appointments and anywhere you need to go. That is simply not true. They have a part-time driver, a van with no lift for those in a chair or walker, and this van is ONLY available a few days per week and for only a couple of set hours on this set days. Not exactly what the salesperson makes you believe. Another area where we found discrepancies in what the salesperson told us in the beginning was the lease. The salesperson made us believe that there were no long term leases at El Dorado. However, when pressed with a direct question about the lease, she let us know that only a 12 month lease would receive the lowest quoted rate. Furthermore, she claimed that if we paid a one time fee up front (around $2,500) that the rent would NEVER increase, as long as we lived there. Good luck verifying this claim with anyone else at El Dorado or Holiday Retirement. Finally, this hard-selling, B.S. spewing salesperson claimed that a particular unit was available one day......days later claimed it was no longer available......and then just days later, like magic, the unit was available again......but AT A HIGHER MONTHLY RATE. This prompted us to contact a senior living referral service to help us locate several other communities in our area that we were unaware of and offered MORE than El Dorado at a LOWER MONTHLY RATE! The moral of this story is don't always believe a commissioned salesperson..... and always know what other options there are out there be a one signing the lease

My wife and I have visited her mother here several times for a week or so. It is a great place. Not only is the facility more like a cruise ship than apartments but the staff is considerate, kind and responsive. The meals are very good and there are many activities to keep people involved and entertained. I would definitely recommend the El Dorado for Independent Living.

The El Dorado is a really convenient independent living community in Richardson....because it is all inclusive, and they have a home health care team on site to serve all the families. The (3) meals a day is a big deal. they don't look like they have been updated in awhile, but Clean & Bright.

We have shared your review with our management team who will look into ways we can improve. Thank you for taking the time to let us know how we are doing. Have a great day!
Very nice, clean, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Unfortunately they do not have a room on the first floor. My mom does not like heights. [name removed] was great and informative. We appreciate her taking the time in giving us a tour.

This facility is one of many places that the company owns. I liked this facility because it has the exact same layout as the other places. All of the staff members have a really high community involvement and gets all of the residents engaged in activities. They have things like bingo, karaoke, painting, arts/crafts, and a full calendar of things to do. The only thing that I do not like is that it just seems to be a little darker than their other communities. It just didn’t seem as optimistic.

This is a nice looking community. The people I met here were friendly. This community did not offer the type of security I was looking for.

I toured this community for the care for my mom. We liked the staff who seems to be very helpful. We were not happy with the community due to changes were needed on the cleanliness. The menu seemed somewhat appealing. We would recommend that they make changes for residents to be able to enjoy the care from this community.

A Place for Mom has scored The El Dorado 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
