It's a small community, they're very friendly and nice, but there's not a lot of activities. They list activities but they're not done many times.

June 28, 2024We appreciate all reviews, and appreciate you giving us the chance to improve by providing us with this feedback. Thank you.
Yes, we would recommend. Quality of care seems good and better than previous experience. However they lack organization with clothes and bed linens. They often get mixed up between residents.

Response from The Cottages of New Lenox
February 14, 2024Hello John, thank you for sharing your positive experience! We're glad to hear we delivered such a great experience. If there's anything further we can do for you, we are happy to help!
The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. My mom loves it there and says it's like a real home. She also comments every visit how good the food is. I picked it because her dementia is further gone and no assisted living place would take her. I got lucky because they are amazing

My family was very appreciative to the staff and care you gave to my mom for her short stay and care for her final days. We highly recommend The Cottages. We also had hospice care and they coordinated everything with them and any equipment or needs my mom needed. We did not have to worry about anything except my mom. They were exceptionally nice and caring to my dad who came daily. Admission people were extremely helpful and kind and assisted me in at a very overwhelming time. She actually sent me a picture of my mom when she arrived at the facility.

When my loved one first moved into The Cottages of New Lenox it was wonderful. We loved all of the staff and the meals served were balanced and tasted good. Within the last year they have had a complete turnover of management/staff. It went WAY downhill. The menu changed as well and went from good balanced meals to things like macaroni and cheese for dinner. There were times I would be there and all of the staff were up front in the office and no one was on the floor. My loved one had a lot of things stolen. Overall it was not a good experience once they changed management.
We picked this community because, It was close to home, and a smaller community.

The first week we were here, things went well. The second week we noticed the amount of food they were feeding my loved one was not adequate so my loved one was hungry all the time. They did not help with the feeding and he was always the last one to eat. The meals they provide are not balanced. We were very dis-satisfied. They let the residents have the rule of walking into everyones bedroom - so there was a lack of privacy. We were disappointed in the laundry service as well, my loved one went a week without towels. A lot of my loved ones clothing was taken as well.

They care a lot about their residents. And their communication with the family is good. The activities are good as well.

I would let others know that we have been happy with the staff and the overall community. This has been a good fit for my loved one. There have been COVID lockdowns and this has caused the food to be delivered to the residents' rooms.

Mu husband came home with 2 sores on his heel and a terrible bed sore that ended up causing him to pass away. They seemed anxious to have him here, but he was more work than they were able to handle and I wish they would have just told me that from the get go. I wish I had never sent him here in the first place.
It’s just been a wonderful experience. They just rolled out the red carpet. This is our first rodeo. We’ve never done anything like this before. They kind of held our hands through the whole thing. The care that they’re providing is amazing. Their head nurse is amazing. The director is just incredible. We had a family visit recently. I flew in from out of town, and they didn't give me a hard time about the Covid stuff, just followed protocol. I was there for the weekend and they answered any questions. They were very caring. It could all be a schtick, what a privilege it is to care for our loved one. And I’m sure that’s part of the script. But I believe them when they say it. We’ve had a wonderful experience.

We chose The Cottages because of the convenient location. It is 5 smaller building instead of just one large facility, so sometimes your family members do not have any interaction with the other residents. They have been excellent with communication with everything that has been going on. They have had a new chef and he is not as good as the last one that they had. Overall I would recommend to others looking.

I cannot say enough how much the caregivers and executive staff work to make sure the residents receive not only the best in care, but that they are HAPPY each day. These people work tirelessly to make sure their "family" members receive the best in daily care, meals and personal assistance. I am thankful each day that they care so much for each of residents in their care and there is never a problem too large or small for them to address. It's above and beyond each and every day. You are all my heroes. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

The staff is very friendly and helpful overall. We've had a few incidences, some which may be attributed to us being new to this type of living situation and some from The Cottages. We've worked together and resolved the issues. We initially had a problem with mom's laundry but that has been addressed and corrected. We really like that there are only 16 rooms in each cottage and that we have 24 hour access.

My mother-in-law needed a place to live after suffering a fall on her 94th birthday. The Cottages was a wonderfully friendly and caring place for her.

I toured this facility with my family while looking for a place for my Dad. It’s a beautiful community and privately owned, which is something I liked. However, it isn’t just one big facility but rather a lot of little cottages. I could see the potential and positives but I didn’t think it was the right fit for my Dad. There is a common area, like a big courtyard, but everyone eats individually and each cottage comes with its own kitchen. It was a very modern type of cottage where everything was made up of black granite and white cabinets, but Dad was used to living on a farm in a country setting so it felt like too big of a change for him. A few negatives were that they wouldn’t accept his dog and wouldn’t allow him to smoke. Ultimately, it didn’t fit the needs my Dad had, but I’ve already told my own kids to bring me here when it’s time for me to move in somewhere.

Response from The Cottages of New Lenox
January 2, 2018Thank you so much for the kind words and the 5-star review. While some of our activities and policies might not be a match for your Dad now, know we are always here at the Cottages to help if needed.
Things were a little rocky when my parents first moved in but they are settling down now. Management here has been very good to work with as are the staff who are attentive to my parents. They are in a very nice cottage with 4-6 other residents. Mom is in a wheel chair and dad uses a walker, and there is plenty of room for them to move around in the room. The staff has been great at keeping me informed about any issues. My parents now use the resident doctor, which is easier to coordinate and monitor their meds. They are working on getting on site PT for them as well. They keep my parents busy and my dad says he even likes the food. I think this home type setting is working well for my parents.

Response from The Cottages of New Lenox
September 19, 2017Thank you for your 4-star review and the kind words about The Cottages of New Lenox. As you know we apologize for any issues we had at the start and are glad that we have a place for Mom and Dad that they enjoy. Overall, as our mission states, we want to preserve our residents legacies one resident at a time. We work hard to make sure each resident feels like they are home in our community. Thank you again for the kind word, we do appreciate it!
This is an outstanding community for good care. The staff is very caring. We like the menu of the healthy meals. They offer her a lot of nice activities for her to participate indoors. The community is clean and well maintained. We would highly recommend this community. We like the nurses and they communicate with me very well.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
