We have only been here a couple of weeks, this has been the most friendly facility we have looked at. The entire staff seem to be happy and friendly as well, answering questions that may or may not be their job. And if you have been to different facilities this is very important and not always the case, My Mom looks better and more alert than she has in several months and even appears to be getting stronger and her mobility is better.... My grandmother moved to Columbia Cottage a few months ago. I have been amazed by the wonderful, caring staff that go above and beyond to care for my grandmother. My grandmother loves the painting classes and activities. Keep up the great work!

It is small, it's very accessible, and it's all on one floor. My mom is very happy there. Their activities is a downfall. They are working to improve it, but I haven't seen that quite yet as they don't have any activities.

Virtual tour, good but didn't like the location. The woman who helped us was great.
I would tell others that there is no such thing as a perfect place, but they do a really good job at making it a good place here at Columbia Cottage. This is a smaller community. They do have some activities for the residents to participate in. The food has been enjoyed by my loved one. The biggest meal offered is the lunch meal.

This looked like a nice community and the people I met were friendly. The apartments they have would have been to small for my parents. This community is more for assisted living and we were looking for independent living.

Mt Brook Columbia Cottage was selected after my mother needed assisted living after being hospitalized after a fall. I recently spent 2 weeks visiting at the Cottage. I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff.

We toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. This seemed like a nice place overall, and is definitely somewhere we would have considered for our loved one! The staff we met were friendly, and the facility was clean and well kept. However, at the time of our search they did not have any availability.

My siblings and I are grateful for the love and concern that all of the staff have shown our Mom since she moved to the Cottage 6 months ago. This is a smaller facility, so it gives the feeling of a small town community where both staff and residents have the opportunity to get to know and see each other on a daily basis. The staff truly cares about each and every resident, and understands their particular individual needs. The warm decor throughout the building creates an atmosphere of being home and welcoming. The living room with the fireplace and bookshelves is quite homey, and the linens and decorations on the dining room tables every day are just one more special touch to create a home-like setting. Whenever there is a major holiday, Leslie and the staff go all out to make it a fun, big, party! Lots of pictures are taken at these events. There is an exercise class every morning between breakfast and lunch, then at 2PM, Bingo, Wii, or an Arts and Crafts activity is offered. There is a social hour in the late afternoon, an hour before dinner. The caregivers, called Homemakers, check in on the residents throughout the day, talk with them, make them laugh, or give a word of encouragement, always making sure each resident feels like they belong and have purpose. I live out of town, so I enjoy having the daily peace of mind knowing Mom is in good hands! It is a blessing Mom can call Columbia Cottage, home!

So far we are pleased with Columbia Cottage. Mother has not been there a month yet so don't know what the first bill will be. She broke her hip right before we were going to move her in! The Cottage was very helpful in getting Mother moved in spite of the hip. They have had to do much more for her than we expected but for the most part have done it well.

They were loving and caring. They took great care of my mom. The food is excellent, it's a five. I liked that it was a smaller community. Overall I liked the cost per care ratio. There were a couple of business things that I had an issue with. When we exited the facility, the fee they charged for filling in nail holes and cleaning the carpeting, etc was astronomical. Additionally the way the contracted pharmacy service works, every time someone goes in and out of the hospital they stop and restart the medication. You have to pay a round of co-pays everytime. My pharmacy charges were almost double because of this. I think they could have explained that a little better in the beginning. These are some of the hidden costs and unsuspected things that came up, families should know about. They really did take great care of my mom though and overall it was a good experience.

A Place for Mom has scored The Brook 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
